Russia's military chief of staff has announced that Russia would use nuclear weapons pre-emptively in the face of a major threat (AP).
I wonder if the general thinks it would be OK for America to use nuclear weapons pre-emptively in the face of a major threat--because the general's statement sounds like a major threat!

Russia threatens nukes

Our Saudi friends
According to Fox and Friends this morning, our "friends" Saudi Arabia have just released 1,500 al Qaeda prisoners! But don't worry. The Saudis made them promise not to practice Jihad......in Saudi Arabia!
It's a good thing that we have other good "friends", like Russia, isn't it? When is our government going to wake up and re-evaluate our "friendship" with some of these countries?

World War III
In my last post I noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened the U.S. about involvement in Iran. According to the New York Times, while responding to a question about that threat, President Bush suggested that a nuclear Iran could lead to World War III.
The same article quotes General John Abizaid as saying that there are ways to live with a nuclear Iran. He's absolutely right. All we have to do is convert to Islam.
I'd rather die.

Putin threatens the U.S.
Fox News is reporting that Russian president Vladimir Putin (who is visiting Iran), warned (threatened?) the United States and Israel today that an attack on Iran would be "unacceptable." That's about as strong as it gets in diplomatic-speak, isn't it? Russia is now providing Iran with military hardware and helping them build their nuclear power plants.
I wish my dad was still alive. I'd like to ask him what 1939 was like.

Russia supplies missiles to Iran
According to a Reuters report issued just moments ago:
Russia has delivered new anti-aircraft missile systems to Iran and will
consider further requests by Tehran for defensive weapons, Russian Defense
Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Tuesday.
"We have supplied the modern short-range anti-aircraft systems TOR-M1
in accordance with our contracts," Ivanov told reporters. "Iran is not under
sanctions and if it wants to buy defensive ... equipment for its armed forces
then why not?"
A defense ministry source later told Reuters deliveries of hardware under
the $1 billion deal, which has been criticised by the West, have not yet been
completed.
With allies like Russia, who needs enemies?

Another poisoning?
Breaking news from CBS: "Doctors treating former Russian Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar, who is gravely ill, believe he was poisoned." See also an article in the Moscow Times.

Our Russian ally
In a time when Iran may turn out to be one of the most dangerous threats to world peace since Nazi Germany, our “ally,” Russia, is providing Iran with a sophisticated air defense system (Jerusalem Post). Russia insists that this is only for defensive purposes but that excuse conveniently sidesteps the point—if Iran continues to develop nuclear weapons, Russia’s defense system will only hinder any efforts by the United States or Israel to stop them. A nuclear Iran would be the world’s worst nightmare.
Isn’t it long past time to give up our delusional thinking and stop pretending that Russia is an ally?

Selling missiles to Iran
According to an article in today's Jerusalem Post, "The Russian defense minister on Wednesday defended Moscow's deal to supply air defense missiles to Iran, saying they were purely defensive weapons with a limited range."
In a time when Iran is building nuclear weapons and threatens to destroy the West and to wipe Israel off the map, isn't it comforting to know that Iran will now be better able to defend itself?
With "allies" like Russia, who needs enemies.
