In a move that can only be described as guilty until proven innnocent:
"Officials in Ramsey County, Minnesota have sent letters to more than 800 churches and related entities there demanding various documents to justify the tax-exempt status of the ministries" (OneNewsNow).
Congress needs to put a stop to this harrassment of churches. Under the first amendment, churches should be able to preach pretty much whatever they want short of calling for violence or the overthrough of the governement. They should even be able to support Barack Obama without having their tax exempt status challenged! The Fair Tax would put an end to this harrassment.
Where is the ACLU when you need them?

Huckabee and Fair Tax
Reuters published an article critical of Huckabee's support for the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax would abolish the IRS and eliminate taxes for those below the poverty level. Just imagine: no April 15 tax deadline and no payroll tax deductions. Before you write off the Fair Tax you should really read about it at FairTax.org.

FairTax

Long time readers of Recliner Commentaries know that I support the "FairTax." I was excited to see that the FairTax was mentioned in last night's Republican Presidential debate. In fact, I understand that presidential candidates Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter and Governor Mike Huckabee all support the FairTax.
The FairTax would abolish income tax and the IRS (Imagine no April 15 tax day!). It would abolish corporate loopholes. It would take away goverment ability to manipuate our lives through taxation. In short, it is the most exciting tax proposal to come down the pike in a long, long time.
If you're not familiar with the FairTax you owe it to yourself and the country to check you www.fairtax.org.

Income tax and fair tax

Have you ever seen the "simplified income tax form" that has only two lines. The first one says “How much did you make last year?” The second line says, “Send it in.” Everyone loves to hate income tax so imagine a tax system that enables you to keep 100% of your paycheck, eliminates all loopholes and inequities, and abolishes the IRS. No, I’m not dreaming. There is actually a serious grass roots proposal that would do all this. The proposal is to abolish the federal income tax entirely and replace it with a national sales tax. Just think: no confusing tax forms, no tax deadlines, and no tax audits. There is even a provision to give a rebate covering the basic necessities of life so those in poverty are not taxed for those necessities. So what is the downside?
