Anyone who has been watching the news at all lately knows that Democrats and Republicans are at odds over raising the debt ceiling. Republicans are saying, OK, we'll raise the debt ceiling provided that 1) there is a corresponding cut in spending and 2) we send a balanced budget amendment to the states for a vote.
Seems like a reasonable plan to me. So why are Democrats, including the President, so absolutely opposed?
I thought Dana Perino summed it up pretty well on TV this morning when she said (my paraphrase), The Democrats a want blank a check to pay for the billions of dollars they spent on their failed plan to fix the economy so that they can get through the next elections and spend even more money.
