"It's time to get serious about the business of the nation"

President Obama recently said, "It's time to get serious about the business of the nation."

I certainly agree. Of course, this is coming from a President whose own Democratic Congress under Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi neglected their Constitutional responsibilities and never even passed a federal budget while they were in power!

A compromise on gay marriage?

Imagine a constitutional amendment that would:

1) Allow marriage between two individuals of the same sex,

2) Provide that no religious organization be compelled or pressured (e.g. through lawsuits, taxation or withholding of benefits to which they would otherwise be entitled—like accreditation or student loans) to employ, enroll, retain, provide services to, or house anyone who engages in any behavior which that religious organization deems to be inappropriate, offensive or sinful.

Of course the language would have to be tweaked by lawyers but the intention would be to allow gay marriage but at the same time protect the liberty of religious organizations to follow their conscience with regard to behaviors they believe are sinful.  In short, it would protect religious liberty.

I’m wondering if gay rights activists would be in favor of such a compromise.

The rape of Laura Logan

In this New York Times story, CBS News correspondent Laura Logan recounts how she was raped by the hands of two to three hundred men while working in Egypt.

Several things struck me. First was sorrow for what Ms. Logan had to go through.

Second was anger at the animals who did this to her.

Third was a flood of questions:  Where is the outrage? Where are the feminists? Where is the National Organization for Women? Where is the media outrage? Why are Muslim groups and clerics not on TV condemning the actions of these two or three hundred Egyptian men? Why is Congress not demanding justice? And where is the Egyptian outrage? Why are they not as angry about this as Americans were about Abu Ghraib?

Our nation went hysterical--for months on end--when a handful of rogue soldiers humiliated some terrorists at Abu Ghraib. Why are we not similarly outraged when an innocent reporter is sexually assaulted for an extended period of time by two or three hundred Egyptians? Unlike the residents of Abu Ghraib, she wasn't trying to shoot anyone or blow anyone up. She was just covering a news story!

The NYT article talks about the men in that oppressive society. I guess it is OK to condemn men and it's OK to talk about oppressive structures of society in general, but it is not politically correct to mention the fact that this particular oppressive society is Muslim from top to bottom (the word "Muslim" never once appears in the entire article). I wonder if that has anything at all to do with oppressive actions toward women.

David Wilkerson's message to Assemblies of God

I am always skeptical of those who claim to be communicating direct revelation from God as David Wilkerson does this this article. I won't pass judgment on whether this message is really direct revelation from God, but I must say that I strongly agree with his message! I wish it were in my power to require every Christian pastor in America to read this outstanding article.

(David Wilkerson is the founder of Teen Challenge and author of the best selling book, The Cross and the Switchblade about his work with street gangs in New York City. He died yesterday in Texas in a tragic car accident).

Please take time to read the short but outstanding article on politics and race by Larry Elder.

Syria on UN Human Rights Council?

In the news lately, over 120 are dead in the aftermath of Syria's crushing suppression of protesters.

In other news, Syria is slated to be seated on the United Nations Human Rights Council!

What a farce! Why do we continue to fund that organization?

Christians arrested for reading the Bible

Christians are arrested for reading the Bible in public--in America!

A Fate Worse Than Death

Many Americans seem to have bought into a story in which our 19th century ancestors were heartless, brutal imperialists while American Indians were the peaceful victims of American atrocities.

There were certainly some atrocities committed by some American soldiers and settlers. And there were certainly some peaceful Indian tribes, like the Tonkawas or Delawares. But the idea of peaceful, innocent American Indians being regularly slaughtered by American soldiers and settlers for no reason is quite frankly,  mythology.

The following examples come from the book, A Fate Wore Than Death; Indian Captivities in the West; 1830-1885 by Gregory and Sussan Michno. The book is often gruelingly gruesome, but is hard to put down.

The book provides a fair treatment. For example, although the authors discuss the horrors of being captured by Chief Shakopee in Minnesota, they also write about the courageous warrior, Chaska. Chaska had been educated by Christian missionaries. He risked his life to get the woman and her child to freedom. In spite of his charity and the woman’s testimony in his favor, he was “rewarded” with five years in prison before being hung when he was mistaken for someone else.

The authors also tell the story of a warrior named Wakinyantawa who grabbed a double barrel shotgun and stood between a white man and the Indians who wanted to kill him. Wakinyantawa reportedly said “Shoot if you like, kill him if you will, but two of you will come out of your saddle if you do.”

In another act of kindness—in a story reminiscent of Rahab in the Old Testament—an Indian woman hid a white captive under buffalo robes and told fellow Indians that the captive had escaped.

One woman was enslaved to a warrior with two wives. One of the wives was kind and was able to save the woman from many a beating. Some women and children were apparently accepted and treated well enough that they chose to stay with the Indian tribes that had captured them

Some modern apologists for Indians, wanting to justify or excuse Indian atrocities, will point to the atrocities white Americans committed against Indians and black slaves. They are right that such atrocities were horrendous and inexcusable!

But what rich white businessmen did to African-Americans is not really analogous to what Indians did to the settlers. If the two were analogous, most of the black men in the south would have been slaughtered in Africa while their wives and children were enslaved, beaten (often daily) and often tortured--not for resisting or for failing to work, but for no reason at all!

If African and African-American slaves were treated like white settlers, the men wold have been killed and the women would have been starved and gang raped by every man in town—often repeatedly. As horrible as slavery was—and it was—most of those enslaved on plantations were practically in heaven compared to the fate of many of those—blacks and whites—captured by Indians. If you doubt this, read on (this is not in any way intended to justify or lessen the horrors and abomination of the enslavement of Africans by rich white businessmen. It is only intended just to put things in perspective).

Undetoured, politically correct apologists often take stories out of context or just flat out ignore or lie about primary sources. They will, for example point to the 1864 atrocities like the Sand Creek incident in which about 700 Colorado soldiers attacked a village of about 500 Indians in a massacre and mutilation. It was horrendous! But it was also an isolated incident and occurred only after about three decades of Indian atrocities on settlers.

Some examples of such atrocities follow (warning: if you are sensitive to graphic descriptions of torture, please stop reading now.

When Indians attacked a farm or small settlement, fathers and husbands were usually slaughtered and scalped (not always in that order). They were sometimes mutilated and disemboweled. Sometimes their own genitals were cut off and stuffed in their mouths—sometimes in front of their wives and children!

Women were often taken captive, though not always. Mrs. Lee was shot in the back with an arrow. Her children watched as warriors scalped her, cut off her ears and chopped off her arms.

Indians would sometimes pretend to be friendly in order to get food—and then after they had eaten they would turn on the settlers and slaughter them, or slaughter the men and kidnap their wives and children.

Some of the tortures to which women and children captives were subjected include dripping sizzling fat on captives bare legs, repeatedly sticking a flaming stick up a captive’s nose, being beaten with sticks and whips, women being stripped naked, knocked down, repeatedly beaten (regularly for days, weeks and months on end), stoned, or stamped on.

Some women and children were forced to walk nearly naked and barefoot through briars and cacti. They were often given little or nothing to eat. Some who were finally rescued were just skin and bones. The women were often (usually?) sexually assaulted, often gang raped, sometimes by every man in the tribe and sometimes repeatedly for months or years on end.

There was a case in which a woman was dragged by the hair for about 200 yards before being stripped and raped. Then an arrow was shoved up under her shoulder blade and she was scalped alive. She lived for about four days.

In another case, warriors shoved a woman into an icy river, laughing as they made a game of beating her back with clubs and poles when she tried to reach the shore. When they tired of the game, they shot and killed her.

There was a case in which a warrior got upset at a captive baby’s crying so he ripped the baby from its mother’s arms, threw the baby on the ground and speared it as the mother was forced to watch.

In another case a mother’s baby was tossed up in the air and let fall the ground repeatedly until the baby died—and the mother was forced to watch. There were cases in which mothers were forced to watch their babies starve to death. Children were sometimes forced to watch their mothers and fathers beaten to death.

In one attack a young girl witnessed her father being slaughtered (that was common). Then her pregnant mother was ripped open and the baby torn out. The warriors then took turns raping the girl before finally burning her to death.

It was not uncommon for family members to be raped, burned, scalped or otherwise tortured and killed in front of other family members. Sometimes the bloody scalps of dead family members would be smeared in the faces of other family members. Imagine being forced to watch your father be tortured to death, your mother raped and tortured, and then have their bloody scalps smeared in your face! For example, a boy watched as Indians sliced open his sister to remove her unborn baby, which they then nailed to a tree.

In another case, a woman was physically unable to work as hard as her Apache captors required so she was tortured to death while her daughter was forced to watch.

In another case when a family was attacked, their oldest daughter was raped in front of the family. Then one of her breasts was cut off (while she was still alive) and she was scalped alive before they finally killed her by slitting her throat.

In another case, a woman was forced to watch as her female friend was beaten to death with fire wood. The woman was also forced to watch as the Indians used her friend's corpse for target practice. Finally, the corpse was scalped and the friend was repeatedly whipped in the face with her dead friend’s bloody scalp.

Some of the things these poor people were forced to endure were unbelievably, heartwrenchingly, cruel one would think they were demonically inspired. For example, warriors laughed as they made a game of throwing a two year old captive up in the air, allowing the child to smash into the ground until the child finally died. In another case, warriors dragged a baby and toddler from their mother’s arms and beat them with stove wood in front of the mother, leaving them for dead. In  another case, a warrior held a baby upside down, hacked it to bits with his tomahawk and then threw the body parts in the face of the mother. The mother was then burned alive on her bed.

In yet another case, a mother was forced to watch as an Indian women (sometimes Indian women were worse than the men) whipped her five year old daughter in the face with rawhide and then grabbed her arm and leg and slammed her to the ground repeatedly. Still alive, the Indian tied the little girl up and used her as a knife throwing target until the child finally died. And her mother had to watch it all.

When a 13 year old boy became too sick to travel the Indians threw the boy into a fire and forced his grandmother watch while he burned to death

When a captive child would not stop crying and clinging to his mother, an Indian chief smashed him to the ground and stomped on him.

When a three year old child cried, she was tortured by being cut with arrowheads. She survived and was eventually freed but, not surprisingly, suffered serious emotional problems for the rest of her life.

When Indians found a baby hidden in a box under a bed, they smashed him against the wall. Two other children had their brains bashed out on an oak tree  A 13 year old girl was starved and raped nightly by various warriors.

A seven year old girl was separated from her mother in the Indian camp. She cried uncontrollably until she finally happened to see her mother again. When she ran to her mother, the Indians punished her but burning her feet in a fire until she was unable to walk.

The warriors cut a baby’s throat and held it upside down by the heals before the eyes of its mother and laughed as she screamed and fainted.

After meeting some of the rescued captives and hearing what they had endured, General George Custer told his men that if his beloved wife were to ever fall into the hands of Indians, they were to shoot her dead rather than allow her to be taken.

There is a reason white settlers referred to Indian captivity as a fate worse than death. There is a reason settlers referred to Indians as "savages." One woman was actually happy when she learned that her Indian captors were planning to burn her at the stake because being burned alive at the stake was preferable to the tortures she had been forced to endure.

These atrocities were not committed by one or two Indian tribes. They were committed by tribes like the Apaches, Sioux, Comanches, Araphaoes, Cheyennes, Blackfoot, Lakotas, Shoshones, Bannocks, Mojaves, Yavapais, Crow, Kiowas, Kickapoos, Utes, and Chiricahuas.

In one year--1862--about 300 settlers were enslaved by Indians in Minnesota alone. Thousands of Spanish and Mexicans were enslaved. Their crimes? They just wanted to build a little home and farm in the vast millions of square miles of wide open empty territory! (Modern Americans who have never traveled through places like North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Texas, New Mexico or Arizona really have no clue how vast and empty this space is--even with 300 million people living in America)!

This post is not intended to vilify Indians and it is certainly not intended to create hatred against modern Indians. It is no more valid to hate modern Indians for what some of their forefathers did than it is to hate modern white people for what our forefathers did--or for that matter, to hate Norwegians for what my Viking forefathers did)!

The point is only to provide some balance. To be sure, some white settlers committed terrible crimes and atrocities against Indians, Africans and others, but the idea of the imperialistic white Americans regularly slaughtering innocent, peace-loving Indians for no reason, is mythology pure and simple. It is not legitimate to white-wash history just because what actually happened is no longer politically correct.

If you want to cut through all the politically correct nonsense—and if you can handle the depressing gruesomness—please purchase and read A Fate Wore Than Death; Indian Captivities in the West; 1830-1885 by Gregory and Sussan Michno. It is an outstanding book which is very well documented.

The story of Easter

Many in Jerusalem were undoubtedly awakened by the early morning earthquake. It is hard to imagine that Mary Magdalene and the other women were sleeping very well anyway in light of what had happened to Jesus.

Jesus had died and was placed in a tomb just before the Sabbath began at sunset on Friday. The women were prohibited from anointing the body on the Sabbath, so they would just have to wait until the Sabbath was over on Sunday morning. Surely Jesus deserved a proper burial. That’s the least they could do. In fact, it was all they could do now.

First thing Sunday morning, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Sa’lome, Joanna and Susanna were up gathering spices and other necessities. They headed off toward the tomb while it was still dark. As they talked it suddenly occurred to them: who would move the large stone away from the entrance? They hadn’t thought of that, but these were determined women. They were not about to let a rock stand in their way.

By the time they got to the tomb the sun had just barely risen but it was light enough to see from a distance that the stone had already been rolled away!

That could only mean one thing. The body had been stolen! Mary Magdalene was crushed! She didn’t go any further. She didn’t need to see any more. Mary immediately ran back to the home where the disciples were staying and cried out, “They’ve taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

The disciples were undoubtedly shocked, but they were not sure what to do with this information. What could they do? Mary, overwhelmed with grief, just turned around and walked slowly back to the tomb.

Meanwhile, the other women had cautiously entered the tomb, allowing their eyes to adjust to the darkness. Sure enough, Jesus was gone!

Just then two men suddenly appeared in dazzling white garments. One of them said,

Don’t be afraid—it was too late. They were already terrified—You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth. Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here. He is risen as he said.

Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful man, be crucified and on the third day and be raised again.” But go tell his disciples—and Peter—that he is raised from the dead and is going on ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there just as he told you.

The women, still trembling and bewildered, raced back to the home where Jesus’ disciples had been hiding out, saying nothing to the few people who happened to be up at the crack of dawn. The women burst into the room shortly after Mary Magdalene had left to go back to the tomb. They told the disciples about the empty tomb and the angels’ message, but the disciples thought they were speaking nonsense and didn’t believe them.

But, first Mary, now the other women? Peter and John had to see for themselves. They raced to the tomb, passing Mary Magdalene on the way.

John got there first and bent over looking into the tomb. Peter got there right after John and actually went into the tomb. John followed him in. Sure enough, the tomb was empty except for the strips of linen and the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head. The head cloth had been folded and placed separately from the other linens. Peter and John went back to tell the others.

A little later, Mary Magdalene finally got to the tomb again. This time she bent over to peer into the entrance. Just as she feared, Jesus was indeed gone. She turned around falling to her knees, weeping uncontrollably, tears in her eyes, head in her hands. She didn’t even look up when she heard a man ask, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away and I don’t know where they have put him!” “Sir, if you’ve have carried him away, tell me where you put him, and I will get him”

Mary turned around and looked up.

Rabboni!!! Mary exclaimed as she jumped up and wrapped her arms tightly around Jesus.

This was not a very politically correct thing to do publicly in those days, so after a while Jesus said, Mary stop holding on to me, for I’ve not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.

Mary obeyed and ran back to the disciples to tell them that she had seen the Lord! The other women had already left the home, possibly to tell to tell Mary, Martha and Lazarus in the village of Bethany.

As they were walking along, from out of nowhere, Jesus suddenly met them.

“Greetings,” he said.

Terrified, they fell prostrate to the ground grabbing his feet worshiping him! Jesus said, Don’t be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee. They will see me there.”

Meanwhile Cleopas and another man (possibly Luke) also left the house to go on a seven mile journey to Emmaus. As they walked a stranger joined them asking what they had been discussing. Looking downcast Cleopas asked, “Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and don’t know the things that have happened there?

What things?

So Cleopas explained that Jesus of Nazareth was a prophet, powerful and word and deed before God, and how the chief priests and rulers had handed him over to be crucified.
We had hoped, Cleopas explained, that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. What’s more, it is the third day since all this took place and this morning some of our women amazed us with stories about how they had found the tomb empty and how angels said Jesus was alive! Some of our friends went to the tomb and found it empty just as the women had said.
The man replied, “How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?’ And beginning with Moses and the prophets, he explained to them what was said in the Scriptures concerning himself. But they were kept from recognizing him.

When they arrived at their destination, they urged the stranger to stay for supper. He accepted their offer. He took bread, gave thanks and broke it. As he handed it to them, their eyes were opened and they recognized that is was Jesus!

He disappeared from their sight.

The two men immediately returned to Jerusalem. It was getting late as found the disciples and others assembled together. Before they could say anything, the disciples exclaimed to them, “It is true! The Lord has risen! He appeared to Simon!”

Then the two told what had happened on the way to Emmaus and how they finally recognized Jesus as he broke bread.

While they were still talking about all this, Jesus himself stood among them and said, Peace be with you. They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.

Jesus said, “Why are you troubled? Look at my hands and feet. It’s me! Touch me and see! A ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.

Then he asked, “Do you have anything to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish and he took it and ate it in their presence. Then he said to them,
“This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms, that the Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are my witnesses of these things.”
A week later Jesus appeared to the disciples again—this time with Thomas who had not yet seen Jesus alive. Earlier in the week Thomas had said, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it!

Jesus told Thomas, “See my hands? “Put your finger here.” Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

“My Lord and my God,” Thomas exclaimed!

Jesus later appeared to his disciples while they were fishing in the Sea of Galilee. He cooked fish for them on the seashore and invited them to have breakfast with him. He then assured Peter of forgiveness even though Peter had denied him three times.

Finally, after various appearances over a 40 day period, Jesus appeared to over 500 people at once and was taken up from their sight, giving this final commission,

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Iceland or Ingolfsland?

File this under "random thought for the day":

According to Islandic tradition, the first Nordic settler in Iceland was a man named Ingolf (or Ingolfr) Arnarson who settled there in AD 874. His son, Ingolfsson, was said to have founded the first parliament in Iceland.

But "Iceland" is such a harsh and cold name. Who wants to live in an Ice land?

Wouldn't it sound better to re-name the country "Ingolfs' land"?  ;-)

Making fun of Trig Palin

Just when you think nothing by the Left could possibly shock you anymore, someone on the Left does just that!

The Leftist blog Wonkette recently stooped so low as  to make fun of Trig Palin, Sarah's Down Syndrome grandchild. As the grandfather of a wonderful Down' Syndrome child myself, it is hard for me to imagine anything more sick, disgusting and hateful than the Wonkette post.

It brings back memories of grade school when cruel and ignorant children would call classmates "retard", "crip," "queer" or various racist epitaphs. Such behavior was unacceptable even for children growing up in the 50's. It is almost unbelievable coming from adults in the 21st century!

Leftists constantly rant and rave against intolerance and hatred and yet some of them are the most intolerant, hateful people on the planet.

According to the Associated Press: "CA Senate bill mandates gay history taught in schools."

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal:
According to Internal Revenue Service data, the entire taxable income of everyone earning over $100,000 in 2008 was about $1.582 trillion. Even if all these Americans—most of whom are far from wealthy—were taxed at 100%, it wouldn't cover Mr. Obama's deficit for this year.

Hope, change and the deficit

I heard an interesting statistic today. When the Democrats first took control of Congress under Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, our national deficit was 360 billion dollars. Today, the national deficit is 1.6 Trillion dollars.

In other words (for those of us who are mathematically challenged), when Pelosi and Reid took over our deficit was 360 billion. It is now 1,600 billion dollars! And that's just the deficit. The national debt is MUCH higher!

That's not much hope but it is certainly a lot of change!

Giving "Mother Earth" the same rights as humans

According to an article in the Vancouver Sun:
Bolivia will this month table a draft United Nations treaty giving "Mother Earth" the same rights as humans — having just passed a domestic law that does the same for bugs, trees and all other natural things in the South American country.
The bid aims to have the UN recognize the Earth as a living entity that humans have sought to "dominate and exploit" — to the point that the "well-being and existence of many beings" is now threatened.
Surely this must be a something you would find in The Onion. If not, it is a great illustration of what St. Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans: "Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles" (Romans 1:22-23).

Jesus and a hate crime in St. Paul

One of the problems with hate crimes laws is the arbitrary way in which they are applied. For example, this weekend someone set fire to a large statue of Jesus in St. Paul, Minnesota.

If this had been a statue of Buddha or someone's Koran, I have little doubt that prosecutors would be investigating this as a hate crime, but since it was a statue of Jesus there is no talk of investigating a hate crime.

Could it be that some on the Left are finally getting it?

Government shut down and abortion

I just watched a news clip of a Democrat Senator saying that no one should be put in the position of not having a job on Monday morning just because Republicans want to take away women's rights.

In the current congressional debate, no one is talking about taking away a woman's "right" to kill her unborn child!

Democrats are claiming that women have a "right" to take other people's money in order to fund a private company which makes millions of dollars performing procedures that tens-of-millions of Americans consider to be morally repugnant!

It would be like Democrats asserting that they not only have the morally repugnant right to own slaves, but they also have a right to have the cost of owning those slaves paid by your tax dollars!

Then Harry Reid says that Republicans just want to cut off women's medical procedures like mammograms and blood tests!

Aside from the fact many (most?) Planned Parenthood facilities don't perform these health tests anyway, suppose the Republicans made a compromise proposal to take the tax money currently being given to Planned Parenthood and give it to hospitals precisely for mammograms and other women's health medical procedures. Does anyone believe for a minute that Democrats would agree?

Of course not! Its not about women's health. Its about abortion! Democrats would rather cut off the salaries to low wage military personnel than to give up funding abortion--because the "right-to-kill" unborn babies a big part of their political power base.

Its time to call evil by its name.

Barack Obama got elected in no small part for his demonising of Gitmo and military commissions, and for his promise to eliminate both.

He has now decided that the terrorists will be tried by military commission at Gitmo.

He has apparently discovered that being President is a little different than running for President.

He owes President Bush--and the American people--an apology.

The American People owe Mr. Obama a long and happy retirement--beginning with the next election.

The Path to Prosperity

Congressman Paul Ryan has presented a budget plan that would cut over 6 trillion dollars from Obama's budget over the next 10 years! Please take time to watch the video. Then call or e-mail your representative or Senator and express your support.

It may sound melodramatic, but it is true: Your future, and the future of your children depend on it.

Thomas Sowell: "Political Statistics"

Economist, Thomas Sowell, writes:
When someone gives you a check and the bank informs you that there are insufficient funds, who do you get mad at? In your own life, you get mad at the guy who gave you a check that bounced, not at the bank. But, in politics, you get mad at whoever tells you that there is no money.
One of the secrets of the growth of the welfare state is that politicians get a lot of mileage out of making promises, without setting aside enough money to fulfill those promises.
This is precisely what Democrats (and all too many Republicans) have been doing for decades. Unfortunately, the bill has now come due and Democrats are blaming the TEA party for saying there's not enough money!

Will the Senate condemn free speech?

According to Fox News:
U.S. lawmakers said Sunday they would consider a request by Afghan President Hamid Karzai to formally condemn a Florida pastor's decision to burn the Koran, after the act triggered deadly riots in Afghanistan.
If the Congress actually goes through with this and condemns this pastor, will they then condemn all other hateful speech protected by the Constitution?

For example, when gay activists mock Christianity like they regularly do in San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair, will Congress condemn that?

When Hollywood produces hateful movies that mock Christianity, will Congress condemn that too?

When the National Endowment for the Arts funds hateful "art" that depicts things like a cross submerged in urine or a picture of Jesus covered in dung, will Congress condemn that too? (I think we all know the answer to these questions).

Or will Congress only condemn the speech that might result in Muslim violence? And if that is the case, where would it end?  For example, if Muslims were to violently protest the sale of pork in supermarkets, will Congress condemn that too (or regulate it)?

An official condemnation by Congress hands the enemies of free speech a powerful tool. All they have to do to restrict free speech is to incite enough people (in any country) to violently protest. Keeping Presidents accountable

According to CBS News:
Crossroads GPS, the cash-rich Republican outside group planning to spend $120 million on the 2012 election in conjunction with its sister organization American Crossroads, announced Wednesday the launch of a website called "designed to crowd-source information gleaned from Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and other public documents by organizations, individuals and journalists."
According to Wikicountability, "It is Wikicountability’s policy not to solicit or knowingly accept for publication documents which disclose information that is classified, legally privileged or subject to the established statutory exceptions under FOIA."

I think this is a great idea--not only for the Obama administration but also for future Republican administrations as well.

Burning the Qur'an was "hateful and intolerant"

According to CNN, this Sunday General David Petraeus said,
"Burning the Muslim holy book "was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible,"
One thing the general (and the President) failed to mention is that it was also freedom of speech. Some of us remember a time when liberals defended freedom of speech in America.

Some Americans get outraged when a misguided preacher in Florida exercises his constitutional right to burn a book, but no one seems to even raise an eyebrow about the fact that so many Muslim countries do not allow freedom of speech or freedom of religion, and brutally oppress religious minorities.

It is about time Americans started standing up for freedom rather than bowing to the disrespectful and hateful intolerance of Muslim radicals.

Our good friends in the Middle East

It was apparently none other than our "good political friend" Afghan President Karzai who stirred up the violence in Afghanistan over the Koran burning!

Our political "allies" in Saudi Arabia destroy Bibles and imprison Christians. Our political "allies" in Iraq oppress the Christan minority. Our political "allies" in Afghanistan incite riots against us. Our political "allies "in Turkey side with our enemies in Iran. Our political "allies" in the Arab world plead for our help with Libya--but leave us to pay the bill and then condemn us for accidental lives lost.

What in the world are we doing supporting all these nations?  The only true ally we have in the Middle East is Israel but the current administration does nothing but antagonize them!

"No religion tolerates the slaughter...of innocent people"

After seven UN staff were killed in Mazar-i-Sharif, and ten more killed in Kandahar in protests over the burning of a Koran, President Obama said,
No religion tolerates the slaughter and beheading of innocent people, and there is no justification for such a dishonorable and deplorable act.
Unfortunately, Mr. Obama's ignorance of Islam is also deplorable. According to the very earliest Muslim biography of Muhammad, Muhammad himself ordered the beheading of hundreds of people. Muhammad himself ordered the executions of others for no other reason than the fact that those people renounced Islam. Thousands and thousands of Muhammad's followers have been following his example ever since.

(Fox News reported this morning that thousands of Muslims in Afghanistan have turned out for a third day of protests over the burning a single Koran by Florida pastor).

Tolerance and civility in Wisconsin

Remember all those Leftists lamenting the lack of civility and tolerance by the Right after the shooting of Congresswoman Giffords? Remember all the Leftist lies about lack of tolerance and civility in the "TEA parties" last summer?

According to the New American,
After failing to intimidate lawmakers with protests and threats into backing down on thebudget-repair bill reining in the collective-bargaining privileges of government employees, unions in Wisconsin sent out letters promising potentially illegal boycotts and attacks against businesses in the state that refuse to publicly support their demands.
That's the Left's version of tolerance and civility.
