President Obama against Obamacare

A federal judge struck down Obamacare today, citing a significant constitutional authority: Barack Obama.
“I note that in 2008, then-Senator Obama supported a health care reform proposal that did not include an individual mandate because he was at that time strongly opposed to the idea, stating that ‘if a mandate was the solution, we can try that to solve homelessness by mandating everybody to buy a house,’” Judge Vinson wrote in a footnote toward the end of the 78-page ruling Monday.
Apparently Obama was against it before he was before it.

Read the story in the Washington Times.

"Muslim Brotherhood Poised for Power in the West"

"U.S. Evangelicals to blame or Ugandan murder?"

If you read only one article this week, please take time to read, "U.S. Evangelicals to blame for Ugandan murder." It is short, but outstanding!

There is indeed hatred involved, but not by Evangelicals!

Getting out of Egypt

I understand that the U.S. is advising Americans to get out of Egypt--but there is no way out! Delta, for example, has cancelled all flights to Cairo leaving Americans stranded.

Isn't it time to send C-5's to Egypt to evacuate Americans?

Let's pray  that what we are seeing is analogous to the fall of the Berlin Wall, and does not turn out to be analogous to the fall of the Shah in Iran.

Egypt and Iran: An earthquake in the Middle East

As I watch the events unfolding in Egypt I can't help thinking this is Iran all over again. When I was in the Air Force, the Shah of Iran fell. The Shah was a dictator who was replaced the Ayatollahs. Its not like Iran was changing a dictator for a free democracy. Iran swapped an oppressive regime for an even more oppressive regime. They jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

Mubarak is a dictator. But, like the Shah, he is a dictator who supports the U.S.  If Egypt succeeds in overthrowing him, there is virtually no chance they will replace him with a free democracy. What is more likely is that they will replace this oppressive regime with an even more oppressive regime. The new one, however, may not be friendly to he U.S. In fact, if the Muslim Brotherhood gains power, it will likely be more Iran.

Mubarak may retain power. If not, we may be looking at the beginning of a political earthquake in the Middle East.

Extension of Patriot Act provisions

From NextGov:

House and Senate committee leaders on Wednesday backed dueling legislation to extend online surveillance provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act that are set to expire at the end of February.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., introduced the bipartisan 2011 USA PATRIOT Act Sunset Extension Act, which would continue to allow roving wiretaps of suspects who change computers or phone numbers to avoid monitoring; tracking of "lone wolves" -- people of interest with no known links to terrorist groups; and retrieval of records and other tangible evidence from organizations with a court order. The proposal, which would expire in December 2013, also demands greater judicial supervision.
Last Congress, Leahy's committee approved a nearly identical bill (S.1692) backed by the Obama administration, but the full Senate instead opted to pass a straight temporary extension -- without the oversight measures -- that expires Feb. 28.

When the Patriot Act first passed during the Bush administration, the Left when absolutely hysterical! You would have thought that Adolf Hitler had just come to power. Come to think of it, the Left--in all their civility--regularly compared Bush to Hitler.

Now that Obama is President, the Left is silent. It was never about the Patriot Act. It was about hating Bush.

Obamacare and "Waivers for Favors"

Please take time to read Michelle Malkin's excellent article entitled, Waivers for Favors. Michelle writes:
At the end of last year, the Department of Health and Human Services had granted some 222 temporary waivers to businesses small and large, insurers, labor and other organizations that offer affordable health insurance or prescription drug coverage with limited benefits. On Wednesday, the agency quietly updated its online list, which now reveals a whopping total of 729 Obamacare escapees -- in addition to four states, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio and Tennessee -- who collectively cover about 2.1 million enrollees.

What's going on in Egypt

What's going on in Egypt?  Read "Black Friday" in the New Republic.

Radical Muslims are firmly in control of Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen et al. They have just taken over Lebanon. Now, they may be poised to take over Egypt.

Not bad for what the Left likes to refer to as a "tiny" minority. Radical Muslims are a tiny minority like the Nazi's were a tiny minority in Germany!

How does anyone ever learn English?

It is amazing that anybody ever learns English!  (hat Tip: Dean E.)

The definition of Social Justice

The man in the video below is a former advisor to President Obama. He says that if you lived in a country with social justice, you could take your life, write it on a card and throw it in a big pile with everyone else. Then randomly draw out another life and be confident it would be a good life.

Can he really be this uninformed or unintelligent?

I'm not a rich person. I live from paycheck to paycheck, and yet I am much better off than I was when I was  milking cows for a living in my late teens and early 20's. I am much better off than my parents ever were. That didn't just happen. It took a LOT of time, money, hard work, study, pain and sacrifice (by both me and my family).

Now if everyone was guaranteed the same quality of life regardless of how much work they put in to it, why would anyone bother? If I was going to end up no better off than I was when I was milking cows, why on earth would I subject myself and my family to all the pain and sacrifice (and debt!) we endured?

Why would a lawyer or doctor or psychologist or business owner or engineer or accountant or anyone, slave and sacrifice, study and work 50, 60, 70 or more hours a week to get where they are--if they knew they would end up no better off than the guy who works 40 hours a week (or less) and spends the rest of his time fishing and drinking beer?

Van Jones seems to think that this is fair! Van Jones' vision of social justice is a communist vision. In communism people realize that there is no point in working hard since it doesn't get you anywhere! That's one reason capitalism works and communism doesn't.

Many on the Left just don't seem to get that.

What you won't see watching the State of the Union

Please take time to read, "The One thing you won't see on TV at the State of the Union." I suspect that Dennis Prager's "theory" is right on the money!

Now I may have to watch if for no other reason than to see if Mr. Prager is right :-)

Obama: "Government should not intrude in private family matters"

Celebrating the anniversary of Row v. Wade, President Obama said, ""Government should not intrude on private family matters."

What is a "private family matter?"

If a family wanted to allow their children to get drunk or take illegal drugs in the privacy of their own home, the government would not consider that to be a private family matter.

The government doesn't consider spousal abuse to be a private family matter.

When the government allows minors to get abortions without parental consent, haven't they intruded in a private family matter?

When Obamacare requires people to purchase health insurance, haven't they intruded in family matters?

Isn't Michelle Obama's anti-obesity campaign intruding in private family matters?

If a family wanted to kill their newborn child, the government wouldn't consider it to be a private family matter.

So why does President Obama think it is it wrong for government to intrude when people decide to kill their unborn child?

Using Jesus to promote hatred of Obama

Finally, something liberals and right wing Christians should be able to agree on: Fox was right in refusing the "Jesus hates Obama" ad.

Using Jesus to sell merchandise and promote hatred of Obama is despicable.

Michelle Obama's health program

On conservative talk radio, WMAL this morning is this observation:
WASHINGTON -- The Governors Highway Safety Association says pedestrian deaths increased in the first half of 2010 and the First Lady's program to get Americans to be more active could be partly responsible.
Governors Highway Safety Administration spokesman Jonathan Adkins told 630 WMAL that Michelle Obama is "trying to get us to walk to work and exercise a little bit more.  While that's good, it also increases our exposure to risk."
So lets all just lock ourselves in our homes where its safe! Oh wait, don't some say that most accidents happen at home?

President Obama is out on a lake in a motorboat with the Pope. The Pope falls in and is drowning. Obama gets out of the boat, walks on the water and saves the Pope's life. Conservative radio websites report the story with a headline that reads, "Obama can't swim."

I'm certainly no fan of the Obama's but the story on WMAL is unfair and reminds me of the above joke. Reporting like this makes conservatives look petty and vindictive.

Stabbing babies in the neck with a scissors

A Philadelphia abortion doctor:
"induced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, eighth month of pregnancy and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord,"
As the proud grandfather of a beautiful baby girl born almost two months early, it absolutely makes me sick to think that little babies like my granddaughter were stabbed in the neck with a scissors!

It is amazing how the Left goes into hysterics about figures of speech like "cross hairs" but turns a blind eye to the brutal murder of unborn babies.

Thanks to ALA (American Library Association) policies, it sounds like some public libraries are becoming unsafe for children and even library employees. See SafeLibraries for the story.

Government regulations keep homeless from being fed

According to the Houston Chronicle:

Bobby and Amanda Herring spent more than a year providing foodto homeless people in downtown Houston every day. They fed them, left behind no trash and doled out warm meals peacefully without a single crime being committed, Bobby Herring said.
That ended two weeks ago when the city shut down their "Feed a Friend" effort for lack of a permit. And city officials say the couple most likely will not be able to obtain one.
"We don't really know what they want, we just think that they don't want us down there feeding people," said Bobby Herring, aChristian rapper who goes by the stage name Tre9.

"If they bring a knife...we bring a gun"

Speaking of overheated rhetoric, does anyone remember who said, "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun"?

No, it wasn't Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck or Ann Coulter. It was Barack Obama in Philadelphia back in June 2008! That is more overheated than anything I've ever heard from any right wing radio host or Fox News Pundit or Republican politician.

Come to think of it, when it comes to vilifying political opponents--whether they be banks, or Wall Street, or Republicans--I don't remember any president in my lifetime who has issued more incendiary and overheated rhetoric than Barack Obama!

Strange, I don't recall anyone on the Left ever criticizing him for this.

Hang Joe Lieberman in effigy???

Liberal Paul Krugman at the New York Times laments the overheated political rhetoric that "lies behind the rising tide of violence."

As the Weekly Standard points out, however, this is the same Paul Krugman who "joked" in his New York Times column, "A message to progressives: By all means, hang Senator Joe Lieberman in effigy."

This is yet another illustration of my concern over all these appeals to civility. Some on the Left are really not concerned about civility at all. They just want to intimidate and silence their political opponents. Is it overheated rhetoric to call out their hypocrisy?

He should be put against a wall and shot?

Liberal Democrats seem to be falling all over themselves in appealing for civility after the Tuscon shooting, sometimes even specifically blaming Sarah Palin or others on the Right.

For example, former Representative Paul Kanjorski, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, was calling for civility in an article he wrote today for the New York Times.

Mark Hemingway points out, however, that as recently as October, this same Paul Kanjorski said that the Republican governor of Florida should be put against a wall and shot!

This illustrates my concern over all these appeals to civility. Some on the Left are really not concerned with civility at all. They just want to silence their opponents on the Right, and as Rahm Emanuel taught them, you don't want to let a crisis go to waste!

Religious cleansing in the Middle East

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said recently that "Christian minorities in the Middle East are victims of 'religious cleansing."

How do gay rights hurt you?

"How does our marriage hurt you?" gay rights advocates demand to know. If you don't know the answer to this question, please take time to read this short, but excellent article by an ADF lawyer.

$172,000 is modest, $200,000 is rich!

According to an article in the Atlantic,

In bidding a sort-of farewell to White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, he noted the "relatively modest pay" for which Gibbs has labored.
In fact, he earns $172,200 in a nation where the average family income hovers around $55,000, unemployment is high, record foreclosures persist and wages for most folks are at best stagnant.

Since President Obama considers anyone making $200,000 to be rich, I would have thought that  $172,000 would be much more than a "modest" income.

Apple and the Manhattan Declaration

As regular readers know, I signed and supported the Manhattan Declaration. Regular readers also know that Apple has refused to include a Manhattan Declaration app for their iphone/ipad.  Manhattan Declaration, therefore, launched a petition (which I also signed) to urge Apple to reconsider. I just received the following e-mail from the Manhattan Declaration:

Shockingly Apple has turned us down again, and we need you to act at once.  Please call (408-996-1010) or email Steve Jobs ( at Apple today and tell him of your displeasure.
As you know, on December 8 we re-filed the Manhattan Declaration iPhone app with nothing except the Declaration and the opportunity to sign showing support.
Apple rejected the app, saying in a letter on December 22 that the app contains "references or commentary about a religious, cultural or ethnic group that are defamatory, offensive, mean-spirited or likely to expose the targeted group to harm or violence will be rejected.  We have evaluated the content of this application and consider its contents to be objectionable and potentially harmful to others."
What this means is that the teachings of the Bible itself are offensive, even dangerous.
That's why we need you to sign the petition for app reinstatement at and email or call Apple.  We have to persevere until Apple relents.  If we don't, it will mean that merely citing Scripture on some key moral issues is grounds for removal of apps and the limitation of speech entailed by that.  This app is no more objectionable than any other app that includes the Bible or the Quran, or other religious texts that speak to moral issues.  The result of this decision will be chilling to all faith groups.
Apple may be banking on the fact that people have short memories; that this issue will just go away after a few days.  Your job and ours is to make sure this doesn't happen.
Please continue to show your support by contacting Apple, signing the petition to have the app re-instated (which now has over 47,000 signatures), and encouraging those who have not signed the Manhattan Declaration to do so.
Thank you for your support at this important time,
Chuck Colson
Robert George
Timothy George
Accordingly, I just sent the following e-mail to Steve Jobs:

Dear Mr. Jobs,
With regard to the Manhattan Declaration, I support your Constitutional right to enforce your company’s offensive anti-Christian policies.
Now I will exercise my right to avoid future Apple purchases.

Please sign the Manhattan Declaration. Please sign the petition to continue to urge Apple to reconsider their anti-Christian policies.

The Islamic war on Christians

If anyone should ever want to know why I hold the mainstream media in disdain, this article by Brent Boswell does an outstanding job of illustrating the one-sided, politically correct, "out-of-touchness" of ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CBS and CNN. Come to think of it, Fox has also done a terrible job when it comes to covering these atrocities.

Muslims, Jews and Katie Couric

According to Katie Couric, one of the most disturbing news stories last year was the hatred exhibited toward Muslims by Americans! She thinks Americans need to be more tolerant of Muslims. Her solution: A Muslim version of the Cosby show.

Perhaps Ms. Couric needs to educate herself. Of the 1,732 hate crimes reported by the FBI in the latest statistics, 66% were against Jews while only 7.5% were against Muslims.

Certainly Ms. Couric knows this--she is, after all, a major news anchor. So why doesn't she launch a campaign to make Americans more tolerant of Jews? Facts and statistics certainly don't have anything to do with it.

Could it be that being on the side of Muslims is a politically correct "in" thing among elitists on the Left while siding with Jews....not so much.
