Democrats are insulting legal immigrants

Arizona State senator Russell Pearce just made an excellent point on America's Newsroom. He said it is simply insulting for Democrats to equate illegal immigrants with legal immigrants.

He's absolutely right. Democrats constantly say we are a nation of immigrants. That is a deliberate distortion of the truth. We are a nation of legal immigrants! My great grandparents did not sneak across the border. They came here--like the vast majority of immigrants--legally.

To equate those who break our laws with those who followed all the rules and respected our laws is an insulting slap in the face to all legal immigrants.

I think when Democrats say "we are a nation of immigrants" they're stating a fact in order to suggest that those who oppose them are afraid of people who are different. It's a diversion from discussing the actual issue.

In fact, illegal immigration is probably not really the issue at all... the issue is violence on the American border, massive drug trafficking into the US, violence in American cities, human trafficking, and the costs to an already taxed social service system.

The US government fails to address these issues; "illegal immigration" is a red herring.

I agree with you, but you can't get a handle on the violence until you get a handle on the illegal immigration.
