Sowell: The slippery slope to tyranny

"Is U.S. now on slippery slope to tyranny" is a short but outstanding article by Thomas Sowell in which he argues that the government is usurping authority not granted to it by the Constitution. He focuses on one example, but he could easily have cited dozens of others (if you can't list one or two others, you may be part of the problem).

The answer to his question is "yes" we are on the slippery slope to tyranny. If in the next couple of elections, Americans don't rise up and kick out those who think more regulation, more spending and bigger government is the solution to every problem, my fear is that it will mean that Americans still just don't get it, and our grandchildren--and maybe even our children--will no longer live in a free country.

Yes, the situation really is that serious.
