The Left and evil

Those who have read Recliner Commentaries for some time know that one of my pet peeves is "The Left." Why am I always ranting against the Left? I would say this book review says it all, but it is really just the tip of the iceberg.

Of course the existence of the Left is not really surprising to me. There has always been unbelievable evil in the world. What I find absolutely incomprehensible is how so many professing Christians vote for and otherwise support Leftists.

A nuclear-free Middle East

According to the AFP wire service:
Washington's unprecedented backing for a UN resolution for a nuclear-freeMiddle East that singles out Israel has both angered and deeply worried the Jewish state although officials are cagey about openly criticising their biggest ally.
If we really wanted a nuclear free zone in the Middle East, the way forward would be:

1) to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons,

2) get Pakistan to destroy all their nuclear weapons (of course they would never even think of such a thing unless India would do the same--and probably not even then),

3) get all Muslim countries to a) immediately stop supporting and actively interdict all terrorist activities against Israel, b) recognize Israel's right to exist, and c) establish full diplomatic relations with Israel.

Then after about 10 years of good will, we could see if Israel is ready to talk about its nukes.

Otherwise, calling for a nuclear free Middle East is simply a ploy by Muslim nations in their quest to destroy Israel. And the United States, under the Obama, Reid, Pelosi triumvirate is now complicit in their plot.

It is as saddening as it is sickening that we would stoop to selling out our ally in favor of a naive and futile attempt to appease enemies like Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, Hamas and the Taliban.

California's financial crisis

I just heard a TV discussion on the looming financial catastrophe in California and how it threatens the entire country.

The rest of the country really needs to take a long hard look at California. It is a showcase for liberalism and it shows exactly where liberal economic ideas will take us.

California is one of the worst states in the country for business. Unfortunately, they will not do what is necessary to help themselves. What is that?

They need to stimulate business. You do that but lessening government regulation, lowering taxes, and being a little less union-friendly. In other words, the exact opposite of the policies most liberals advocate.

Liberals' answer to everything is more government intervention and regulation. Their hearts may be the right place, but their brains are not functioning. Having no regulation at all would be a disaster, but the more regulation you have the more money it costs business to operate which means less expansion, lower salaries, and more unemployment. Less expansion means lower tax revenue. Lower salaries means less tax revenue. More unemployment means lower tax revenue.

The same is true with taxes. It may sound good to villainize those "evil corporations" and rich people, but the fact is that that the more they are regulated and taxed, the fewer people they can hire and the more they must charge for what they produce. If the anti-business climate gets too oppressive, the really big companies can just pack up and do business elsewhere.

The result is the financial crisis you see in California and increasingly, the rest of America as well.

In-state tuition for illegal immigrants

Did you know that illegal immigrants get "in-state" tuition at colleges in nine states? For example, California residents and illegal aliens can attend UCLA for $27,405 but if you are a legal resident of any other state, you will pay $50,284!

In other words, American citizens who do not reside in California will pay almost $23,000 more in tuition and fees to attend UCLA than someone is breaking U.S. laws to be in this country illegally!

Biden: New ideas from the stimulus

According to CNSNews,
Heading up a Middle Class Task Force roundtable discussion on Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden said that one of the benefits of the $787 billion stimulus package signed into law in February is that it has generated new ideas for dealing with economic problems, including unemployment.
I would imagine that people who have frivolously spent so much money on things they couldn't afford and are now over their head in credit card debt have learned some lessons on economic problems too--i.e. stop spending so much money!

Unfortunately, whatever ideas Joe Biden is talking about, the idea of not spending so much money is probably not one of them.

Will the White House denounce S.I.E.U. tactics?

According to Human Events:
Reminiscent of the white-hooded Ku Klux Klan showing up to terrorize families in their homes, the Service Employees International Union (SIEU) and a Chicago group called National Political Action showed up at the Maryland home of Greg Baer, deputy general counsel for corporate affairs at Bank of America last Sunday.

The White House has yet to denounce the muscle flexing by their SEIU buddies whose purpose was to intimidate the senior bank executive and make him an example to all those who might oppose the Democrats’ new finance bill now headed for conference with the House and Senate.
"The White House has yet to denounce" it? I'd like to know if the White House is indirectly behind it! Ku Klux Klan or "Kristallnacht" against Obama enemies? There were 14 busses of lawbreaking prosters invading private property and terrorizing a 14 your old kid! How could this possibly happen? Where were the police?

S.I.E.U. has given enormous amounts of money to Democrats, and the former S.I.E.U. President, Andy Stern, has frequent access to President Obama and "sits on the President's fiscal responsibility commission" (see link below). Not only has S.I.E.U. not condemned this mob, they have defended it!

Journalist Nina Easton lives next door to Mr. Baer and was an eyewitness to S.I.E.U's terrorist tactics.

President Obama hard at work

The United States just went over 13 trillion dollars in debt today.

We have thousands and thousands of people pouring across our southern border, many of whom are members of violent gangs and drug cartels.

The situation with North Korea right now seems to be analogous to desperately hoping that a house filled with natural gas will not be exposed to a spark.

And it seems to me that in the Gulf of Mexico we may be faced with one of the most catastrophic made-made environmental and economic disasters in the country's history. I just saw a clip of none other than Democratic strategist James Carville absolutely lambaste Obama for not doing the right things for the people of the Gulf coast.

But never fear. President Obama is hard at work--in California campaigning for Barbara Boxer before he goes on vacation in Chicago for Memorial Day.

Rick Barber: Telling it like it is

This guy tells it like it is. We need to elect him and about 400 more Representatives just like him!

Democrats move to collect your financial records

According to CNSNews:
Senate Democrats united to pass a financial regulatory bill that allows the government to collect data on any person operating in financial markets at any level, including the collection of personal transaction records from local banks that list customers’ addresses and ATM receipts.
Can you imagine the hysterical outcry that would have come from the media and other Leftists if this had been done by the Bush administration?

More gay rights intolerance

The gay rights movement began as a plea for tolerance. More and more as they have gained political power, the mask is coming off and the extent of their intolerance is becoming more and more exposed.

Obama keeps Senate intel in the dark

More on the most open administration in history. This time,
The Obama administration has failed to keep congressional intelligence officials in the loop on the investigation into the botched Times Square bombing, as required by law, the top Democrat and Republican on the Senate intelligence committee charged in a letter this week (Washington Times).
Honestly, you would think that even Democrats and the liberal media would begin to grow weary of all the secrecy and deception.

SIEU thugs terrorize innocent family

All the while the Left--particularly Nancy Pelosi--does their hand-wringing about imagined potential violence by the TEA partiers (which never materializes), it is the LEFT that is committing the violence. You really need to read this short article about SEIU thugs terrorizing an innocent family.

Where is the media on this? Where are the denunciations by the President? If you only read one article this week, please read this one.

Obama--yet another broken promise

Here is Obama's version of the most open administration in history (sounds like Nancy Pelosi's most ethical congress in history).
Observers couldn’t help but notice the irony: President Barack Obama on Monday signed the Press Freedom Act, then refused to take any questions from members of the press.

In a broader sense, the event was another demonstration of Obama’s standoffish relationship with the news media — despite his campaign vow of a “transparent” administration.

Obama has not fielded questions at a full-blown press conference since way back on July 22, 2009.

President George H.W. Bush had nearly three press conferences a month. Bill Clinton and Lyndon Johnson convened an average of about two a month, Ronald Reagan had less than one press conference every two months, and Richard Nixon averaged one every seven weeks.
Read the entire article in NewsMax.

This, however, is just the latest in a long line of broken promises.

Obama promised the close Gitmo. It is still open (and we hear very few complaints by the Left).

Obama promised to get us out of Iraq. We are still there (and we hear very few complaints by the Left).

Obama promised to work across the aisle on legislation. That was a joke.

Obama promised to give the public five days to review any legislation. He didn't.

Obama promised to end abuse of no-bid contracts. He didn't

Obama promised not to allow former lobbyists to work on regulations or contracts related to their former employer for two years. He granted waivers.

Obama promised to ban earmarks. The first bill he signed had over 9,000 earmarks!

Obama promised the have the most open administration in history. Yeah, right!

I'm sure the list could go on! In many jobs, the applications make it clear that you can be fired for misrepresenting yourself on the application or interview. Perhaps we need something like that for the those who run for President or Congress.

Discrimination against Asians at UC?

According to an article in OneNewsNow, the University of California is considering requiring a higher standard for admission for Asians than for other groups because such a large percentage of its students are Asian!

Ward Connerly, founder of the American Civil Rights Institute (ACRI), explains that some administrators say there are just too many Asians and believe that "the only way to curtail that is to raise the standards on Asians and to apply a different standard to them than we apply to – quote – 'underrepresented minorities' who are black, Native American and Hispanic."

It is amazing how racist the Left really is...and they are too blind to even see it! Please read the entire brief article on OneNewsNow.

Arizona immigration law

In criticizing the new Arizona immigration law, the President of the United States, the Attorney General, and Democrats in Congress are actually undermining federal law since the Arizona law is actually more liberal than the federal immigration these people are sworn to uphold! It feels like we are being run by outlaws! Please take time to watch this interview. It does a great job shedding light on the whole issue.

North Korea, Iran and nuclear weapons

According to the Washington Post, South Korea's Foreign Minister, Yu Myung-hwan, says that North Korea sank a South Korean submarine.

Although I would presume that this is clearly an act of war, what can South Korea (or anyone else) do? Thanks to the Clinton Administration for giving the North Koreans nuclear power, and to the Bush Administration for doing nothing substantive to stop them, North Korea now has nuclear weapons. Being too aggressive with North Korea could end up in the incineration of millions in Seoul.

So South Korea and the West are pretty much powerless in the face of North Korean aggression and tyranny.

Just wait until Iran gets nuclear weapons! We will then be in the same situation--only with Iran, their leaders believe they have a mandate from God to spread Islam throughout the world--by any means necessary. When you think you have a mandate from God, no amount of negotiation or appeasement will dissuade you from your mission.

And the Obama administration fiddles while Iran builds the fire in which the world may well burn.

The coming age of global cooling?

At a recent climate change conference, a top scientist announced that we are in danger of global cooling.
Contrary to the commonly held scientific conclusion that the Earth is getting warmer, Dr. Don Easterbrook, emeritus professor of geology at Western Washington University and author of more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, has unveiled evidence for his prediction that global cooling is coming soon.

The threat of Obama's socialism

I don't think Mr. Gingrich is being meoldramatic here. I think he is right on the money. When Barack Obama was elected President I had the very distinct feeling that future historians may look back on that election as the beginning of the end of America as we have known it.

Oh sure, we started down that path with FDR, LBJ and Jimmy Carter--but with Obama its not a downhill slide but a jump off the side of the cliff! If there is not a major right wing backlash in the next congressional election, I fear for America.

To Save America

From an ad to New Gingrich's New book, "To Save America:
"America is facing a mortal threat....If we don't act now, our great nation will no longer exist."

So argues Newt Gingrich in his blockbuster new book To Save America: Stopping Obama's Secular-Socialist Machine.

What is putting America as we know it in such peril?

The Secular-Socialist Machine—a corrupt bureaucracy which uses manipulation, bribery, and dishonesty to steamroll the will of the people and destroy America's core values.

"The secular socialist machine represents as grave a threat to America as Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union once did," states Gingrich. "It is actively working to demolish our core values, beliefs, and attitudes and replace them with their own."

U.S. paying $23,000 per month to Hamas front?

Sometimes our government does things that are so mind-bogglingly stupid that you just have to question the sanity of some government officials--or wonder whose side they are really on.

According to NRO, the General Services Administration is paying $23,000 per month to rent office space in a mosque in Virginia--a mosque that "Federal law enforcement officials" have called "a front for Hamas terrorists"!

That's your tax dollars at work!

"Its your turn to be afraid"

The move, Air Force One is on right now. In the beginning of the move, "President Marshall" gives a speech saying,

"The dead remember our remembrance. The dead remember our silence." I came here tonight to be congratulated. But today when I visited the Red Cross camps, overwhelmed by the flood of refugees fleeing from the horror of Kazakhstan, I realized I don't deserve to be congratulated. None of us do. The truth is, we acted too late. Only when our own...national security was threatened did we act. Radek's regime murdered over 200,000 men, women and children and we watched on TV. We let it happen. People were being slaughtered for over a year and we issued economical sanctions and hid behind a rhetoric of diplomacy. How dare we? The dead remember. Real peace is not just the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice. Tonight, I come to you with a pledge to change America's policy. Never again will I allow our political slushingers to deter us from doing what we know is morally right. Atrocity and terror are not political weapons and for those who would use them, your day is over. We will never negotiate. We will no longer tolerate and we will no longer be afraid. It's your turn to be afraid (emphasis mine).

Wouldn't it be nice if America's next President had the guts and moral fiber of a "President Marshall.?" Is there anyone on the horizon who fills that bill?

Congress wants to track BMI of children?

According to CNSNews:
A bill introduced this month in Congress would put the federal and state governments in the business of tracking how fat, or skinny, American children are.

States receiving federal grants provided for in the bill would be required to annually track the Body Mass Index of all children ages 2 through 18. The grant-receiving states would be required to mandate that all health care providers in the state determine the Body Mass Index of all their patients in the 2-to-18 age bracket and then report that information to the state government. The state government, in turn, would be required to report the information to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for analysis.
Is there any area of your life--other than sex--that the Democrats don't want to control and regulate? What happened to all their concern for "privacy?"

We are a nation of immigrants

I just listened to a TV debate on illegal immigration. It amazes me how the Left continually throws up the red herring of how we are a nation of immigrants.

Of course we are a nation of immigrants. I don't know any Republicans who are anti-immigration. Imagine bill proposing to stop all immigration to America. I can't imagine a single Republican Congressperson voting for such a thing. In fact, I can't imagine anyone even proposing such a ridiculous idea--which is probably why it has never, to my knowledge, been proposed.

Now imagine a group arguing that we need to prosecute illegal drug users more aggressively, and the best argument the opposing side can come up with is that we should not go after or prosecute illegal drug users because we are a nation of drug users (i.e. Aspirin, Tylenol, Benadryl, Caffeine, Lipitor, etc.). What is it about illegal that the Democrats don't understand?

It is particularly disturbing to hear members of Congress--like Nancy Pelosi--arguing, in effect, that we should not enforce immigration laws passed by Congress!

What other laws can we ignore? What other laws to they ignore?

Obama's social security number

Is Obama using a phony social security number? The story sounds a bit fishy and I'm sure there is a perfectly plausible explanation. I'd just like to know what that explanation is.

Pelosi tells Catholic Church what to preach

The government--more specifically, Nancy Pelosi--told Catholic Cardinals and Archbishops what to preach on immigration? Where are all the Leftists protesting this violation of separation of church and state now?

Seniors told they cannot pray before meals

Georgia Senior citizens were told they cannot pray before their meals.

Our religious liberty is being stripped away from us in the guise of "separation of church and state" which is not even in the Constitution!

This is only the latest in a long line of attacks by atheists and secularists against religion in America. The U.S. is looking more and more like like the former Soviet Union here all the time.

Comedy Central and Jesus

Comedy Central developing half-hour cartoon about Muhammad -- no, wait...

No, it's about Jesus. The simple question for Comedy Central is: why is Jesus perfectly okay to poke fun at in a "a playful take on religion and society with a sprinkle of dumb" [sic], but Muhammad is out of bounds? Could it be, for example, that the followers of the latter religious figure are not quite as peaceful, patient, and tolerant as advertised? Could it be that daring, "edgy" comedy actually depends on the existence of no actual risk?
Could it also be that the writers and producers of Comedy Central are cowards and bullies who only dare to pick on those who refuse to fight back?

O'Reilly on illegal immigration

I'm not much of an O'Reilly fan but he makes some very good points on illegal immigration:

Companies dropping health care?

If you thought Obamacare was a great idea, you've got to read this!

Major U.S. companies are now considering dropping health care for their employees and dumbing them into Obamacare. The penalties are apparently cheaper than the premiums. This will add billions to the projected Obamacare costs.

My guess is that it may also ruin some insurance companies, but then, that was probably the Democrat plan all along--greasing the skids to a one-payer socialized health care system.

Times Square bomber motive

One of the things that drives conservatives like me crazy is the Leftist "blame-America-first" hate speech. Why are we having so much trouble with Islam? It must be America's fault. After all, we stationed marines in Lebanon. We stationed soldiers in Saudi Arabia (at their invitation). We invaded Kuwait (at their invitation). We invaded Iraq. It's all our fault. We were responsible for bringing terrorism to America.

Or so the mindless Leftist drivel goes.

Now, however, Fox News has just reported that the Times Square bomber has revealed his motive for the attempted attack. It was because America is using drones to bomb terrorists in Pakistan.

Let's see. Who is it who is using drones in Pakistan?

Barack Obama--chief of the blame-America-first crowd!

Do you suppose Jeremiah Wright, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the Left wing media will now condemn Barack Obama for bringing terrorism to America?

That's about as likely Osama bin Laden apologizing for 911!

Franklin Graham: secularization and oppression

Leading the U.S. to bankruptcy

This morning a terrorism expert who once worked for the CIA said that one of the objectives of al Qaeda was to lead the U.S. toward bankruptcy.

I couldn't help thinking: Who has done more to lead the U.S. to bankruptcy, al Quada, or the Reid, Pelosi, Obma triumvirate?

Faisal Shahzad: The rights of a U.S. citizen

This morning on Fox and Friends, Brian was passionately arguing that the Times Square bomber should be treated as an enemy combatant.

Glenn Beck and Judge Andrew Napolitano, on the other hand, were arguing that he is a U.S. citizen and should be mirandized and given all the rights of a U.S. citizen.

Brian just did not seem to understand that if the government gets to decide when to apply the Constitution to U.S. citizens or not, we no longer have freedom.

Faisal Shahzad is a U.S. citizen and as much as we might like to see him interrogated at Gitmo, he must be given all the rights due to a U.S. citizen.

FBI makes arrest in attempted Times Square bombing

An arrest has been made in the attempted Times Square bombing (CNN). The FBI caught Faisal Shazad trying to flee the country to Pakistan via Dubai. Shazad is a naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan.

Kudos to our FBI!

We certainly dodged a bullet on this one. The only reason dozens, if not hundreds are dead is because of Shazad's incompetence in bomb building.

Terrorism in Times Square

Fox News correspondent David Miller just reported that authorities have received word that the Taliban in Pakistan is claiming responsibility for the failed bombing attempt in Times Square.

No word on whether the claim is true or just wishful thinking on the part of the Taliban.
