Nancy Pelosi threatened

According to the Associated Press,
The FBI arrested a northern California man Wednesday for allegedly making threatening phone calls to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over health care reform, law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.
Regular readers of this blog know that I have a deep disgust for Nancy Pelosi, but if this man was really threatening or harassing her, then kudos to the FBI! He needs to be arrested.

We settle our disputes in America with discussion, argumentation, debate and at the poling booth. Those--on the Right or Left--who try to settle political disputes with intimidation, harassment or violence are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

This country got it's freedom through violence, not debate. The country was held together in violence. It expanded with violence.

Harassment and intimidation, however peaceful, have been a staple of the protest movement over the last 50 years.

I don't condone violence as a political tool, but when the government seems to ignore The Constitution, when people feel is if they have no real voice or and the document that protects their freedom is mostly meaningless they will act in extremes. The current government actions are fueling extremism and will continue to do so; as the economy gets worse, as tax burdens increase, irrational and terrible ideas take hold in the minds of normally rational people.

I think this is only the beginning; government power grabs (however real or perceived) are going to create more home-grown violence. I doubt the increased costs of domestic terror prevention and law enforcement have been taken into account in the governments budget forcasts.

To add to my previous comment... people who are down and out or how are easily manipulated latch onto causes; I suspect many (definitely not all) Muslims terrorists are deceived and misguided by much smarter and cunning true-believers. The same goes for local terrorists; paranoid wackos with messages of despair and government takeover are going to be heard a lot more by people who have lost or fear they will lose their livelihood; or will be taxed excessively for working hard.

Again, I don't support violence, but it's natural when the government acts like it has.
