U.S. deaths in Afghanistan more than double

CNSNews headline, "U.S. Military Deaths in Afghanistan for First Quarter of 2010 More than Double Those for 2009.

Strange. I haven't noticed all the huge antiwar protests from Code Pink and the media like we heard (day after day after day) which George Bush was in office.

Could it be that all those protests were not really about the war but were more about re-gaining power for the Democrats? Could it be that when the Democrats ignorantly accused the TEA parties of being orchestrated, the Democrats were just projecting their own strategies on Republicans?

Chai Feldblum vs the Constitution

Chai Feldblum was appointed by Barack Obama to head up the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission which overseas workplace issues. According to Townhall, "Ms. Feldblum is on record as stating that “private beliefs” that do not affirm homosexual behavior should not be tolerated in American society."

Writing about an Evangelical couple who would not let gay or unmarried couples stay at their own private bed & breakfast, Ms. Feldblum wrote, "we should similarly not tolerate private beliefs about sexual orientation and gender identity that adversely affect LGBT people."

That's tolerance, gay activist style. Forget freedom of religion. Ignore the Constitution! Sexual rights trump everything! They demand tolerance--no, now they are demanding unqualified acceptance--but some of them are among the most intolerant people on the planet!

Barack Obama swore an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States. By appointing someone does not believe in the constitutional protection of religious freedom, Obama has, IMHO, violated his oath of office. If he does not remove her from office, he should be impeached.

2,500 jobs lost at Sallie Mae

According to a report on the FoxNation blog:
Powerhouse student loan provider Sallie Mae says layoffs are imminent as a result of President Obama's new student loan overhaul.

"This legislation will force Sallie Mae to reduce our 8,600-person workforce by 2,500," Conwey Casillas, Vice President of Sallie Mae Public Affairs, said in a statement to Fox News.
More and more jobs lost. More and more government control. If Barack Obama is anywhere near as smart as the left says he is, this may not be by accident.

Buchanan: "The real anti-Americans"

I'm not a fan of Patrick Buchanan but when he's right, he's right. His article, "The real anti-Americans" provides a little historical perspective on the Left. It is an outstanding, must read article.

Hutaree "Christian" militia

President Lincoln is reported to have asked the question, "How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?"

The answer: Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg.

According to the Associated Press:
Nine alleged members of a Christian militia group that was girding for battle with the Antichrist were charged Monday with plotting to kill a police officer and slaughter scores more by bombing the funeral — all in hopes of touching off an uprising against the U.S. government.
It is theoretically conceivable (though misguided) that a group of paranoid Christians could train to be able to defend themselves in case of government anarchy or something. It is not conceivable that genuine Christians would deliberately plan to murder a police officer in cold blood, much less deliberately plan to bomb those who attend the funeral!

Jesus said we would know false prophets by their fruit (Matthew 7:15-20). Just because they call themselves Christian doesn't make them Christian any more than calling a tail a leg makes it a leg.

Kudos to the FBI for brining down this cult before they were able to carry out their plots.

Psychologist loses job. ADF will appeal

According to the Alliance Defense Fund,
Alliance Defense Fund attorneys will appeal a judge’s ruling against a licensed counselor fired after she referred a person seeking same-sex relationship counseling to a colleague. Rather than attempt to provide a service that would conflict with her sincerely-held religious beliefs, Marcia Walden acted in the best interests of the potential client and referred her to another counselor; however, the counselee later filed a complaint that ultimately cost Walden her job.

Health care is income redistribution

On March 25th Recliner Commentaries posted a video in which Democrat Max Baucus admitted that the health care bill was about economic redistribution (aka "theft," or Communism-lite). Now, former Democratic National Committee chairperson, Howard Dean admits the same.

More guns = fewer deaths

A new report shows that "more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens results in fewer deaths from the use of firearms."

Nothing shocking about that. Most of us knew that already. What is shocking is that the report did not come from FoxNews, or Hannity, or Limbaugh--but was published by MSNBC!

Hutaree members arraigned

More on the Hutaree. If this cult was really planing what the FBI says they were planning, they are no more "Christian" than Muhammad!

"The United States of America does not quit"

"The United States of America does not quit when it starts on something."

So says Barack Obama in a speech he gave to U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan this weekend.

It seems like a strange, even hypocritical, statement coming from a man who won the election in part by demanding that the U.S. establish a firm date on which to quit in Iraq!

More and Hutaree militia raids

More on the Hutaree "Christian" militia raids from CNN and Jihad Watch.

Christian militia group raided by FBI

The Michigan Free Press is reporting that the FBI has just raided a "Christian" militia group called Hutaree, located in southeastern Michigan. I know nothing about the Hutaree or the charges against them, but I once published an article on militias in a small Christian magazine. Although the article is now over 10 years old, it seems relevant in light of the raids this weekend:

Waco, the incident at Ruby Ridge, the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City, and the “Freemen” have focused our attention of the phenomena of militias, and to other small anti-government, anti-society groups. According to some sources, as many as 15,000 Americans may be members of militia groups. Members point to the corruption in government, the moral breakdown in society, the bias in media, and the threat of a coming one-world government. Many even claim to be born-again Christians, and some even hold Bible studies to promote their views. This, however, raises some very serious questions: for example, should Christians train in preparation for armed anti-government conflict? Should Christians even be members of militia groups at all? Or should Christians take the opposite approach and retreat to the wilderness to await the coming of the Lord.

At least two issues must be considered when discussing the matter of militias: a government issue and a hate issue. We will examine these two issues by focusing on Jesus in His historical context and by drawing applications to the militia movement. The fourth chapter of John records that one day while Jesus was passing through Samaria on His way to Galilee, He stopped at a well and asked a Samaritan woman for a drink. She was amazed because, as the text says, Jews do not have things in common with Samaritans. This is usually explained by the fact that Samaritans were so-called “half-breeds.” But that is only part of a long history that begins with Solomon.

After Solomon died, the nation of Israel was divided. The Northern Kingdom, known as Israel or Samaria, set up their own worship centers and soon adopted the gods of the Canaanites. This Canaanite worship sometimes sunk to such depths as to include religious prostitution and human sacrifice! In 722 BC, the Assyrians conquered Samaria, deported some of the population, and brought people from other conquered nations to live in Samaria. The remaining Samaritans intermarried with these foreigners, and their descendants ceased to be completely Jewish. To the godly Jewish “remnant” this intermarriage with godless “pagans” was viewed as a direct affront to God and was often a source of tension. But, as mentioned above, this is only the beginning of the story.

A little over a hundred years later, Babylon began a series of invasions into the Southern Kingdom of Judah, deporting much of the population to Babylon. After about 70 years in exile, the Jews were allowed to return home to rebuild their cities and temple. The only obstacle was the Samaritans who did everything they could to stop the building projects, including letters to the king of Persia and threats of violence. This deepened the antagonism between Jews and Samaritans. But there is more.

In about 170 BC, Palestine was controlled by a ruthless Syrian king known as Antiochus Epiphanes. Antiochus is said to have killed or enslaved 80,000 Jews, outlawed circumcision and possession of Scriptures, and sacrificed a pig to a foreign god in the Jewish temple! He then sent soldiers into the countryside to force villagers to sacrifice to foreign gods…or die. This was undoubtedly one of the worst nightmares imaginable to godly Jewish people! While this was going on, however, the Samaritans not only willingly agreed to sacrifice to Antiochus’ god, they “cheered him on”, so to speak, in the slaughter of Jews!! Whatever antagonism there had been before, undoubtedly turned to bitter hatred.

Finally, just a few years before Jesus began His ministry, a group of Samaritans actually sneaked up to the temple in Jerusalem and laid dead carcasses on the grounds, defiling the Temple area! While some today may consider such actions “gross” or cruel, godly Jews would have considered the defilement of their temple a nightmare which would have undoubtedly reminded them of the days of Antiochus. The flames of their hatred toward Samaritans were undoubtedly fueled to new heights.

This background brings us to the issue of hatred in militia groups. Militias are often permeated with racial or other hatred. If asked, militia members could undoubtedly give a dozen reasons why they think their hatred is justified. But if any group of people ever thought they had good reasons to hate another group of people, it was the Jews against Samaritans. Yet even though He was a full-blooded Jew, Jesus did not hate Samaritans! He did not even hate immoral Samaritans, like the woman at the well. He was not violent toward them. He did not insult or verbally abuse them. He did not even talk down to them. Instead, he accepted their invitation to eat and stay with them, which in ancient Jewish societies had much more significance than it does today. As a result, Jesus won many Samaritans to Himself. If we would follow Jesus, we must do likewise, that is, to reach out to others in kindness and love, never from a heart of hatred, bigotry, or racism.

This does not mean, however, that we accept sin. Jesus did not accept the sin of the woman at the well. He tactfully, yet uncompromisingly, confronted her about her immorality. But confronting sin does not mean resorting to intimidation, hatred, or violence. As Paul said, we need to “speak the truth in love.”

Not all militias, however, are necessarily hate-based. Some may just be very concerned about the state of our society in general and government in particular. Many of us may even agree with some militia members’ concerns about governmental corruption, societal immorality, the erosion of personal and religious freedoms, and the movement toward one-world government. How are we as Christians to react to this?

It may be helpful to look at the Roman world in which Jesus lived. Homosexuality, incest, child abuse, spouse abuse, suicide, abortion, and infant exposure were often accepted in various parts of the empire. Corruption, extortion, robbery, and murder were not uncommon. Taxes were often very high, and the Roman government often used the money to support such things as military expansion or the building of pagan temples. Palestine was controlled by Roman appointees, and the temple in Jerusalem was frequently run by corrupt priests. Jews were also under the rule of a genuine one-world government…at least throughout the Mediterranean world.

While not all of this was common to Palestine, Greco-Roman culture had made significant inroads in Jesus’ home region of Galilee in the first century. Jews in Jesus’ day responded to this in several ways. Some, known as Essenes, tried to isolate themselves, withdrawing from the sin and corruption of the world. For example, it may have been the Essenes who retreated to the isolated commune along the Dead Sea and produced the Dead Sea Scrolls. Others, known as the Zealots, took a more militant approach. In their view, Israel was God’s country and the Romans had no right to rule there. The Zealots wanted to take their country back by force if necessary. Still other welcomed the Hellenistic ways of Greco-Roman culture, including some of its more sinful aspects.

It is notable that, though all of these options were open to Jesus, He did not choose any of them. Neither did Jesus withdraw from the world to barricade Himself inside the walls of a commune. He did not take up arms to fight against the world, and He certainly did not give in and adopt the ways of the world. Instead, He went out into world to change hearts and lives and to draw people to Himself. He commissioned His people to do likewise, that is to go into the world and make disciples.

The day may come when persecution for Christians in America becomes intense, as it has in other countries. If so, God’s people may need to flee, following the example of Paul, who fled from cities such as Damascus or Thessalonica to avoid persecution; or Peter who fled from Jerusalem. But in the meantime, our Lord calls us not to hate nor to respond with violence, but to do something much harder: to love even our enemies, and to go into all the world and make disciples. Membership in hate-based, or potentially violent organizations, is not an option Jesus has left open to those who choose to follow Him.

A Covenant for Civility

Over a hundred professing Christian leaders have signed a document called A Covenant for Civility in which they pledge to speak to each other with respect and humility.

The signers include some people for whom I have great respect. The document cites Scripture passages such as Ephesians, 4:31-32, “put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you” and James 1:19, be “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.

I’m hesitant to be critical of the document because I agree completely that generally speaking, Christians should almost always be kind, compassionate, respectful and gracious not only towards other Christians, but toward almost all people.

But there are exceptions to this rule.

Judging from the document alone one might get the impression that the word “Christian” is almost synonymous with being “nice” and that the Bible prohibits all overheated rhetoric.

Such an impression would be false.

While we should strive to disagree agreeably, there are times when people advocate such damnable views that overheated rhetoric may not be out of line. For example, if someone were to advocate the sexual abuse of children does anyone think that calm, reasonable discussion is always in order? Then why should overheated rhetoric always be considered out of order when discussing the killing of unborn children or the normalizing of behaviors that the Bible calls abomination?

Why should heated rhetoric always be out of line when politicians take actions that restrict or remove our Constitutional guarantees to freedom of religion or speech? Why would genuine Christians think overheated rhetoric is always out of order when some who claim to be Christian deceive people with a view of Christianity that is no more Christian than the religion of Islam?

It is significant that neither Moses, nor the Old Testament prophets, nor many of the New Testament writers and not even Jesus himself, could not have signed the Covenant for Civility. Take, for example:

1) “Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites…son of hell…blind fools…blind guides…whitewashed tombs…snakes…brood of vipers (Jesus in Mt 23:13-33)

2) “You belong to your father, the Devil…He was a murderer from the beginning…he is a liar and the father of lies,” (Jesus in John 8:44)

3) “Though you do not know him [God], I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you!” (Jesus in John 8:55)

4) “You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness (Paul in Acts 13:10)

5) “If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned (i.e. let him go to hell, Paul in Galatians 1:9)

6) “You foolish Galatians” (Galatians 3:1)

7) “I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!” (Galatians 5:12)

8) “You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God,” (James 4:4)

9) “…these dreamers…like unreasoning animals…Woe to them!...They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom the blackest darkness has been reserved forever” (Jude 8-12)

10) “Bold and arrogant…They are like brute beasts…They are blots and blemishes…an accursed brood…of them the proverbs are true, ‘A dog returns to its vomit…”(2 Peter 2:10b-22)

11) “Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood” (Revelation 22:15).

This post is not an argument for uncivil speech. Far from it! But it is a recognition that there is a time for anger (cf. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). If Christians lose the ability to express anger at injustice, oppression, or bald-faced evil, we will have become like salt that loses its saltiness and is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot (Matthew 5:13).

First Amendment does not apply

From a press release issued by the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF):
A federal judge ruled Monday that nationally syndicated opinion columns written by a criminology professor at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington are not protected by the First Amendment because he referred to them on a promotion application.

ADF attorneys argue that the university refused to promote Dr. Mike Adams to full professor because of his religious beliefs and political viewpoints, as espoused through his columns. They are considering their options for appealing the decision.

“Christian professors should not be discriminated against because of their beliefs. No university should refuse promotion to an accomplished professor simply because it disagrees with his religious and political views,” said ADF Senior Counsel Jordan Lorence. “We disagree with the court’s assessment that Dr. Adams’ speech is somehow not protected by the Constitution. Opinion columns are classic examples of free speech protected by the First Amendment, and mentioning them on a promotion application does not change this fact.”
There is also a case before the Supreme Court that will decide whether Christian organizations can be required by law to accept non-Christians as voting members and leaders (I can't imagine that this would stand, but if it does, Christians should join gay and atheist organizations by the thousands and vote them out of existence)!

A New York man is now serving a nine day jail sentence for disorderly conduct (he was praying in public! Gasp!)

This is not the United States I grew up in. It is truly a scary time for America, and especially for genuine Christians who are the only group left in this country against whom mockery and discrimination are socially and politically acceptable.

Health care: really about income redistribution!

Now that the health care bill is a done deal, one of its primary movers and shakers, Democrat Max Baucus, explains what the agenda was really all about. It was not about health care. It was about income redistribution!

"Income redistribution" is just Communist-speak for theft. The commandment does not say, "Thou shalt not steal from the poor" (as if it was OK to steal from the rich)!

Hugh Hewitt comments: "Baucus' candor is appreciated, though the fact that he waited until the bill passed to announce the real agenda behind the massive tax hikes isn't a profile in courage. And the seniors on fixed income who are about to lose Medicare Advantage would laugh at Baucus' pseudo-populism."

Pensions and health care

On Channel 9 news tonight there was a story on how state governments are increasingly unable to pay their pension obligations to retired state workers who paid into the system for years. Nationwide, the shortfall is over two trillion dollars!

Turns out that politicians made promises they just can't keep.

Crimes committed by Obama administration?

According to CNS News:
Legal experts and government watchdog groups cited five federal laws that would have been violated if a White House official offered Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) an administration job, as Sestak has claimed, in exchange for his dropping his Pennsylvania Democratic primary challenge against Sen. Arlen Specter (D).
That's Chicago style politics, Obama-style. This really needs to be investigated, and if Obama was directly involved, shouldn't a crime like this be impeachable?

Yeah, like that's going to happen! Neither the law nor the Constitution seem to mean much to them.

UPDATE: "Rep. Darrell Issa, the top Republican on the House Oversight committee, told CBS NewsWednesday that he will call for a special prosecutor to investigate the White House if it does not address Rep. Joe Sestak's claim that he was offered a federal job in exchange for dropping out of the Pennsylvania Senate primary." (CBS News).

Health care in terms everyone can understand

Having trouble understanding the health care bill? Ron Futrell puts it in terms everyone can understand:
Working in the media for almost 30 years means that I have a lot of good leftist friends. Now that we all keep in touch on Facebook, I end up with a pretty lively page sometimes. We rarely find common ground politically, but when we do, it’s a wonderful thing. I think we’ve made a connection on the “healthcare” issue.

After the bill passed in the House the other night I decided I had had enough and after bantering back and forth for a while on the issue, I decided to agree with them. This bill is a great idea! I told them I would dump by health insurance in the morning (tired of those $500.00 per month payments for my wife and me) and I would look forward to them paying my bill. My post went something like this:

I’m going to dump my health insurance tomorrow and see if my liberal Democrat friends will chip in and foot the bill. Thanks. This is a great idea you cooked up. Where can I pick up the cash? I’ll meet you where ever you’d like. Thanks again!

I didn’t get much of a response from my liberal Democrat friends, so I figured I’d continue the idea that they cooked up in the House, Senate and White House. I explained that I was having trouble with my car and besides, it’s low on gas right now...

Barack Obama: The lies just keep on coming

How many lies can you count in this one two minute clip? For example, Obama promised that he would give the public five days to review any bill after it lands on his desk. The Obamacare bill has not been on his desk for five days but he just signed it!

The public voted for socialism

"First of all, then, we have to say the American public overwhelmingly voted for socialism when they elected President Obama" (Al Sharpton).

Nothing shocking about that. The Republicans understood that socialism was the agenda. The Democratic leadership understood that socialism was the agenda. It was just that the majority who voted for Obama refused to believe that Obama and the Democratic Party had actually gone socialist.

Hope, change and the health care bill

Well, they did it. The Democrats passed a bill to destroy the United States of America as we have known it. The health care bill is a major step on the road to socialism.

You have to give them credit. They did a good job framing the debate as if it were a matter of the good- guy Democrats who want poor people to have health care verses the evil Republicans who do not want poor people to have health care.

It is all a lie, of course. No one wants people to be without health care. The difference is that Republicans live in the real world whereas Democrats live in the world of hope and change. They want to radically change America and hope things will turn out for the best.

Do we have any reason to hope things will turn out well?

Has the government managed Social Security well?

No, it’s going bankrupt, but we hope the government will manage the health care better.

Has the government managed Medicare and Medicaid well?

No, they are going bankrupt, but we hope the government will manage health care better.

Has the government managed VA hospitals well?

No, in many V.A. hospitals the conditions were deplorable, but we hope the government will manage health care better.

Did the government oversea Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac well?

No, there was concern that they were going to bankrupt the country, but we hope the government will manage health care better.

Has the government managed Amtrak well?

No, it is going bankrupt, but we hope the government will manage health care better.

Has the government managed the post office well?

No, it is going bankrupt, but we hope they will manage health care better.

Did the government manage the Hurricane Kartina disaster well?

No, their incompetence cost people’s lives, but we hope they will manage health care better.

Has the government controlled illegal immigration well?

No, we have something like 20 million illegals living here, but we hope the government will manage health care better.

Did the government manage cash for clunkers well?

No, but we hope they will manage health care better.

Did the government manage the TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) well?

No, it cost the American taxpayer almost a billion dollars, it did not work and is absolutely riddled with corruption, but we hope the government will manage health are better.

Does universal health care work in England?

No, they ration health care in England. People die waiting for health care in England, but we hope it works better in America.

Does universal health care work in Canada?

No, those rich enough to afford it come to America for health care, but we will hope it works better in America.

Democrats live in fantasy land. They have laudable utopian dreams, but their dreams will lead to more and more taxes, more and more government control, more and more corruption, less and less freedom, and will move us ever closer to national bankruptcy.

That’s the change their hope will bring.

Obama stops bunker-busters to Israel

Not only is the Obama administration too gutless to stand up to Iran's nuclear ambitions, they are apparently preventing Israel from defending itself as well!

"Then Pelosi lied"

The Catholic League corrects Nancy Pelosi:
Then Pelosi lied. She said she is grateful for the support of 60 orders of nuns, not mentioning that the letter she received had a whopping total of 55 signatories. Worse, she had the gall to say that this represents "every order you can think of." Wrong. In fact, there are 793 religious communities, which means she heard from seven-and-a-half percent of them. Moreover, since there are approximately 65,000 nuns in the U.S., that means she was contacted by .0008 percent of them

The cost of health care legislation

According to Down Jones Newswire: "Caterpillar Inc. said the health-care overhaul legislation being considered by the U.S. House would increase the company's health-care costs by more than $100 million in the first year alone."

Do you think Caterpillar is the only company facing this kind of increase? What do you think this will do to unemployment?

"The Democrats are communists." This is not from Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. It is from none other than Howard Stern!

ABC News paid $200,000 to accused child killer

FoxNews is reporting that ABC News paid accused child-killer, Casey Anthony $200,000!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought legitimate news organizations didn't pay for interviews.

Health care bill cost

According to FoxNews, the CBO has just released their latest cost estimate on the Democrats' health care bill. It will cost 940 billion dollars over ten years.

That comes to 7.83 billion dollars per month. Every month! And by the way, that doesn't mean health care is paid for after ten years. The cost will only go up.

Of course this estimate is based on the figures given to the CBO by the Democrats, based on certain assumptions, for example, cutting Medicare by a half-trillion dollars!

You also have to remember that its not like we have a health economy and are trying to figure out how best to spend our surplus! The national debt is already over 12 trillion dollars!

If I didn't know better, I'd think the Democratic Congress is controlled by a bunch of spoiled rotten children who are so filthy rich they have been always able to buy absolutely anything they have ever wanted. They sound like people who have never had to budget a dime in their lives and honestly do not know what it means to not be able to afford something.

There are ways of improving American's health care coverage without bankrupting the government or strapping our children and grandchildren with back-breaking debt.

Health care bill funds abortion

I just heard an interesting interview with Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak. He says he will not vote for Democrat's medical overhaul because it funds abortion.

When the interviewer, Megyn Kelly, pointed out that some Democrats say the bill does not fund abortion, Stupak cited the actual page number of the bill and said those Democrats were misleading people.

The bill calls for a refundable tax credit for abortion. Democrats just deny that a refundable tax credit constitutes funding of abortion. In other words, they are liars.

Stupak said he has proposed eight different proposals which would remove abortion funding from the bill and all eight have been rejected by the Democratic leadership because they want to fund abortion.

All this just to point out that Christians who support this health care bill, are actively supporting a bill that will take tax payer dollars to destroy thousands of human lives. God have mercy!

Osama bin Laden: wanted dead or alive?

I just listened to an interesting discussion on FoxNews regarding Attorney General Eric Holder's statement that Osama bin Laden would not be taken alive. The "Left" side in this debate argued that bin Laden sleeps with a bomb and has said he would never be taken alive. The "Right" side of the debate argued that even if that is so, no one can know whether he will be taken alive or not, so Eric Holders' statement was just wrong.

Interestingly enough, no one discussed a third option. Is it possible that Eric Holder, in his desperate attempt to defend himself, slipped and let out confidential information about some kind of (illegal) high level directive to the effect that Osama bin Laden is to be killed on sight, i.e. that taking him alive is not to be an option?

Just wondering.

UPDATE: General Stanley McChrystal affirmed today in an interview that U.S. troops would indeed capture Osama bin Laden alive if possible.

Homosexuality, HIV and the CDC

A data analysis released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention underscores the disproportionate impact of HIV and syphilis among gay and bisexual men in the United States.

The data, presented at CDC's 2010 National STD Prevention Conference, finds that the rate of new HIV diagnoses among men who have sex with men (MSM) is more than 44 times that of other men and more than 40 times that of women. (emphasis mine).

Why is it that our culture spends an enormous amount of money discouraging unhealthy behaviors like smoking and overeating, while at the same time encouraging sexual behaviors that lead to horrible deaths?

Why is it that so few people (relatively speaking) have the guts to tell the truth, i.e. that the promotion of lifestyles that kill people is truly hateful?

Thomas Sowell: "Stimulus or Sedative"

Everything economist Thomas Sowell writes is worth reading. In his article "Stimulus or Sedative" Sowell writes,
The stimulus spending started back in 2008, during the Bush administration, and has continued under the Obama administration, so it has had plenty of time to show what it can do.

After the Bush administration's stimulus spending in 2008, business spending on equipment and software fell -- not rose -- by 28 percent. Spending on durable goods fell 22 percent.

What about the banks? Four months after the Trouble Asset Relief Program (TARP) poured billions of dollars into the banks, the biggest recipients of that money made 23 percent fewer loans than before. A year later, the credit extended by American banks as a whole was down -- not up -- by more than $20 billion.

Obama administration to ban fishing?

According to ESPN, the Obama administration, apparently bowing to radical environmental fascists, is planning to limit fishing!

This is one of those articles that I had to read twice to make sure I wasn't being suckered by a satire, but it seems to be genuine.

Is there anything (besides sin) that this administration does not want to regulate and control?

National ID cards and biometric chips

According to the Fox Nation blog:
Lawmakers working to craft a new comprehensive immigration bill are proposing a new national biometric ID card that would be required of all U.S. workers. WSJ's Laura Meckler explains the proposal and the objections from privacy advocates.

Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker.
So you won't be able to work (and if you can't work, you can't buy or sell) without a national ID card implanted with a biometric chip. No word about whether they are going to give the option to have the biometric chip implanted in one's right hand or forehead (Rev. 13:16 ;-)

I certainly agree that we need to get a handle on illegal immigration, but this is not the way to do it!

Religious liberty dies in DC

A few years ago a Catholic charity in Massachusetts had to close their doors because of a law that required adoption agencies to adopt to same-sex couples. Now Catholic Charities in Washington DC has had to deny benefits to the spouses of all new employees because of a new law requiring employers to provide benefits to same-sex couples.

Secularists, of course, are demonizing the Catholic Church over this. What the secularists do not understand is that the Catholic Church simply cannot provide support for a behavior that is sinful.

Secularists do not have to agree with the Church, but if they truly believed in tolerance, they could provide a religious exemption. To pass laws that force the Church to violate deeply held religious convictions is tyranny and a violation of our Constitutional protection of Freedom of Religion.

Universal health care in Massachusetts

In an article in the Boston Herald, Michael Graham wonders why President Obama never, ever mentions Massachusetts when he discusses universal health care. After all, Massachusetts already has what Obama, Reid and Pelosi want to foist on America.

So how's Romney-care working out for them?
It’s exploding the budget: Our “universal” health insurance scheme is already $47 million over budget for 2010. Romneycare will cost taxpayers more than $900 million next year alone.

It’s killing us on costs: Average Massachusetts premiums are the highest in the nation and rising. We also spend 27 percent more on health care services, per capita, than the national average. Those costs, contrary to what we were promised, have been going up faster here than nearly everywhere else.

It’s creating bizarre marketplace mutations: In Massachusetts, ObamaCare 1.0 is such a mess our governor is talking about imposing draconian price controls. He’s even suggested going to “capitation,” a system where doctors get a fixed amount of money per patient - and then that’s it. Which means it would become in your doctor’s financial interest never to see you again.

All this damage to the taxpayers, the insured and the responsible business owners . . . and for what?

The percentage of uninsured Bay State residents has gone from around 6 percent to around 3 percent.

In other words, it’s a dud.

On Fox and Friends this morning, Graham said that in order to pay for this everyone is required to buy health care or face a several hundred dollar fine. The problem is that their health care costs much more than the fine so many people purchase the health care just long enough to get all the expensive procedures and operations done, then they drop the health care and just pay the annual fine leaving everyone else in Massachusetts paying their bills.

If you don't read anything else today, please read "Romneycare model a dud" in the Boston Herald.

"Only 36,000 lost their jobs today..."

Quote of the day: "Today is a big day in America. Only 36,000 lost their jobs today which is really good" (Democratic Senator, Harry Reid).

Tell that to the 36,000 who lost their jobs or to the millions more who still can't find jobs!

Yes, I know what he meant, i.e. that 36,000 is good compared to all the jobs we have been losing--but remember, this is the same Congress and President that wasted 800 billion dollars of your tax dollars promising that this money would prevent unemployment from ever rising above 8%! The results may also be skewed by the fact that the Census Bureau is hiring hundreds of thousands of temporary census takers.

"A year of anti-religious bigotry"

This short article is really worth reading. It illustrates well the degree to which anti-religious bigotry is on the rise in America. You have to read the entire article, however, or you miss the real point. Then, if you think "this doesn't apply to me" you should remember the words of Martin Niemoller, a theologian who lived in Hitler's Germany:
First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Obama selling judgeships for health care votes?

According to the Weekly Standard:
Tonight, Barack Obama will host ten House Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November at the White House; he's obviously trying to persuade them to switch their votes to yes. One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson's brother Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
The title of the article is "Obama Now Selling Judgeships for Health Care Votes?

Good question.

Global warming: "cracked open like an egg"

According to OneNewsNow, Senator Jim Inhofe is going on the offensive with regard to "Climategate":
Senator Jim Inhofe, the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, recently released the committee's investigation into the "ClimateGate" scandal. On his Senate website, Inhofe says he knew global-warming alarmists were "cooking the science to support the flawed U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change agenda." He also claims he was right in 2003 when he said blaming global warming on carbon dioxide and other manmade gases is the "greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people."
Someone else commented that the climate hoax industry "has been cracked open like an egg--and the corruption and stench is overwhelming."

The future of American freedom

There are a lot of good things about the Patriot Act. There are some things that are terrifying. This is one of the very scary ones. This may be one of the most important video clips you ever watch (hat tip: Professor ed):

Mohammed and the Unbelievers

I just finished reading, Mohammed and the Unbelievers; A Political Life by the Center for the Study of Political Islam. This short book (167 pages) provides a fascinating and readable story of Muhammad’s life. It summarizes the earliest biography of Muhammad by Ibn Ishaq and weaves into the biography parts of the Muhammad’s teachings from the Koran, traditions about Muhammad from Hadith (by both Bukari and Muslim) and history of Islam by al Tabari.

The advantage of this book over some modern biographies of Muhammad is that this book has not been filtered through the lenses of Muslim apologetics or modern Western political correctness. The story comes directly from Islam’s earliest and most sacred sources. Almost every paragraph in the book has been documented from those sources.

The picture that emerges is that Muhammad was a man who was kind, hospitable, generous, loving, patient and forgiving—toward Muslims who submitted completely and unquestioningly to his rule.

Toward “Kafirs” (unbelievers), on the other hand, he was mercilessly vicious and cruel. He would threaten, intimidate, deceive, rob, rape, enslave, torture, execute and slaughter Kafirs by the hundreds! On one occasion, he sat all day long watching literally hundreds of Jews who had surrendered to him being beheaded at his command. Then he ordered their wives and children into slavery.

Muhammad ordered the executions of people for no other reason than the fact that those people had criticized Muhammad or had changed their minds and turned away from his religion. He “captured slaves, sold slaves, bought slaves, freed slaves, tortured slaves, had sex with slaves, gave slaves as gifts of pleasure, received slaves as gifts, and sued slaves for work” (164).

He allowed the black slave of his wife Aisha to be tortured in order to determine whether Aisha was faithful to him or not—and only after the torture revealed that Aisha was faithful did Muhammad receive a revelation exonerating her of any wrongdoing.

These stories do not come from Islamo-phobic right wing “crusaders” but from Islam’s earliest and most sacred sources. These are the stories and teachings that Muhammad encouraged his followers to emulate—and which faithful Muslims in power have emulated for over a thousand years.

The book is absolutely outstanding and should be near the top of the reading list for every adult in America—especially for those in government.
