Keith Kimmel denied "IM GAY" license plate

According to OneNewsNow, "An Oklahoma college student is suing the state for refusing permission for a specialty license play that reads 'IM GAY." According to the Wall Street Journal, "the Oklahoma Tax Commission, which reviews and approves applications for special license tags, felt Kimmel's message violated an internal rule prohibiting plates that 'may be offensive to the general public" (OneNewsNow).

This is one of those rare occasions where I side with the gay guy. His message is not obscene. It is not inflammatory. It is not hateful and it is not abusive. I would be outraged if I was denied a license plate saying "I AM A CHRISTIAN" simply because someone might be offended. I think it is wrong to deny the same freedom of speech to this gay man.
