Islamic public school in Minnesota

It is not very often I side with the ACLU, but this is one of those rare times. We have to remember that this is not some jihadist school in Saudi Arabia or Iran. This is a public school in Minnesota!

U.S. climate change senors compromised?

U.S. climate change sensors compromised? According to an article on FoxNews (hat tip: Kevin I).

A critical cog in the machinery that drives the theory of global warming is a small white box not too far from where you live. Inside the box sits a thermometer that tracks the local temperature, which in turn becomes part of a data trail for the monitoring of climate change on Earth.

But there's a problem: Nearly every single weather station the U.S. government uses to measure the country's surface temperature may be compromised. Sensors that are supposed to be in empty clearings are instead exposed to crackling electronics and other unlikely sources of heat, from exhaust pipes and trash-burning barrels to chimneys and human graves.

Universal health care and compassion

How can it be that in America some people actually don’t seem to want all people to have basic health care?

How could anyone be so cruel and heartless? It would almost seem as if Republicans and Tea Partiers are without hearts and souls!

This is especially true when the solution is so simple. Just tax the rich!

They all live in luxury and have more than they could ever use anyway. Shouldn’t they pay their fair share for being part of a country that enabled them to amass such great fortunes in the first place? If the rich would just pay their fair share they would still be rich, but everyone would have health care.

Great theory, isn't it? What if the reality is different?

I once worked for a couple of rich families who had joined together to form a dairy business. They had their own milk processing plant, some barns, farm houses, sheds, several trucks including a couple tractor-trailers, a lot of very expensive farm equipment, probably close to 1,000 head of cattle and hundreds, if not thousands of acres of land.

They were undoubtedly millionaires, probably several times over--on paper, that is, which is where they had the vast majority of their money.

If you saw where they lived, what they drove and what they wore, you would never have guessed they were millionaires. Their money was tied up in their business.

So what happens when “rich” families like this get hit with higher taxes?

They have to make cuts. You might think they could just make cuts in their personal income but I doubt that these two families had a whole lot of discretionary income. Their money was tied up in their business!

So if they had to make cuts because of higher taxes, one of the most cost-effective ways to do this is to cut employees (employee salaries and benefits often take up the biggest slice of the budget pie). This could mean that members of the owner’s family might have to plow some fields or haul some milk themselves, but, hey, we all have to tighten our belts sometime.

Meanwhile, some formerly employed dairy workers would now be out of work which means they would no longer have health insurance or the means to purchase health insurance. And since they no longer have an income, they are no longer paying taxes to provide emergency room services for anyone else.

When this scenario gets repeated thousands of times over, that is, when every “rich” small business owner in America—farmers, plumbers, contractors, small construction companies, small stores, etc.--gets hit with higher taxes, unemployment just gets higher and higher. Those who get laid off have more and more trouble finding other jobs because other small businesses are also laying people off.

The more we tax these “rich” people, the higher the unemployment goes—not necessarily because the rich people are all heartless jerks, but because cuts have to come somewhere and many who are “rich” on paper just can’t take the hit out of their own pocket (after all, they have mortgages, utilities, car payments and other loans to pay off too).

Higher taxes do not just affect small business owners, of course, but unlike small businesses, giant companies and huge corporations often have other options. If their employees are unionized, it may not be easy to cut salaries or benefits to compensate for higher taxes but their tax lawyers may find creative ways to lessen the impact of the tax increase or to avoid it altogether. This means that the rest of us get stuck with the tax burden that they are not paying.

When the corporations can't avoid the impact of higher taxes, they can pass the higher taxes off to us in the form of higher prices. Either way, we pay.

Of course, raising prices can only get them so far. Companies have to be competitive to stay in business. We might lament the "evilness" of corporations that lay people off, but the reality is that if companies do not stay competitive—both here and abroad—they go out of business and huge numbers of people lose their jobs (unless, of course, the government steps in and uses even more of your tax money to bail them out—which in turn requires the raising of taxes which leads to even more unemployment)!

Another option for corporations might be to outsource the jobs overseas where the salaries are lower and there is much less regulation (which also raises prices). This helps to keep costs down and helps the company stay competitive, but it means more and more layoffs in America and higher and higher unemployment. In other words, fewer and fewer tax-payers end up paying more and more taxes for more and more unemployed people to have health care.

This is true even if the government gets involved in heath care, except that when government gets involved, these fewer and fewer tax-payers are not only paying for more and more people, they may also end up paying for more and more government-mandated benefits—like abortions, breast augmentations, hair restoration or other non-essential but expensive procedures (included because of the political power of various special interest groups).

The commendable desire of so many Americans to provide health care for everyone ends up being a vicious cycle, like swirling water being flushed down the toilet—eventually bringing the entire country down with it!

On the other hand, what these "heartless, soulless Republicans" propose is that we lessen the tax burden on everyone—even the rich. This enables businesses to begin hiring again, not because businesses are all such noble institutions, but because with more people they can often make more money!

More jobs means more people have health insurance and more people pay taxes to provide health care for the needy. Lower taxes also means more money for you to spend which stimulates the economy which in turn, provides more jobs!

The difference in approach is seen in the stimulus package. Under the Democrat’s plan, literally billions of dollars have been wasted through outright fraud or through special interest payoffs that did little or nothing to stimulate the economy.

In fact, much of the stimulus money—which we were told was absolutely essential to avoid financial collapse of the nation— has still not been spent! Democrats were apparently holding out for the election year when they could use the money to influence voters!

By contrast, some Republicans proposed that if an economic stimulus was absolutely necessary, it should have been given in the form of tax relief to everyone! Rather than letting politicians dole out billions to their special interest supporters, the money should have given the American people!

Under this plan you would not have had to pay federal taxes for several months! Have you looked at your tax stub lately? Have you seen how much money the federal government skims off your paycheck?!

Just think what you could have done with that money! Millions of Americans spending billions of extra dollars would have genuinely stimulated the economy! It is hard to avoid the conclusion that Democrats opposed this plan precisely because it put the purchasing power in the hands of the people rather than in the hands of Democratic politicians!

Ah, but some argued that Americans would have just saved the money or used it to pay off bills!

So what's wrong with that?! If Americans had had that money to pay down their bills, just think of how many Americans might not have had to lose their homes or file for bankruptcy—in either case, by the way, banks and businesses end up holding the bag which means they have to make up for the loss some way (more layoffs, higher prices, fewer jobs).

If millions of Americans had saved the money, there would be billions more dollars in banks for businesses to borrow and use to expand their businesses, thereby increasing employment!

The Democrats’ plan has been tried before, in its more extreme forms by the former Soviet Union, North Korea, Cuba, Communist China, etc., and in its less extreme forms in modern Europe. It always fails.

Of course, all people are sinners which is why capitalism is often harsh and cruel (especially as it is described by propagandists in the media, education and Hollywood). But this is real life and unfortunately, in real life there are often no truly good solutions—just the best of bad options. Capitalism helped to make America the envy of the world! Even our poor were often rich by other counties’ standards.

The Democrats’ plan makes everyone poorer—except possibly those who are in positions of power and are able to legislate or buy their way out.

So while Congresspersons and the very rich do not have to live with the health care program they are trying to force on the rest of us, their program does give them enormous power over us.

I suspect that is the whole point.

Conservative Hispanics and immigration

According to the Dallas News, a new poll show that "more than half of Texas Hispanics call themselves conservative."

Call me cynical, but my guess is that if a significant majority of Hispanics began voting Republican, Democratic politicians would begin taking a much stronger stance against illegal immigration.

My view on immigration is, figuratively speaking, to build a very high wall with a very wide gate. In other words, take very strong action to prevent illegal immigration, but make legal immigration much more possible for those who share American ideals embodied in the Bill of Rights.

Those who do not share those ideals--like many who take the Qur'an seriously--have no business being allowed to immigrate to this country.

Nancy Pelosi and waterboarding

You may recall that Nancy Pelosi self-righteously racked the Bush administration over the coals for having the audacity to keep Americans safe by waterboarding three terrorists (actions which later saved the lives of hundreds in Los Angeles).

Then it was revealed the Ms. Pelosi had been briefed in advance about the techniques being used. Pelosi said the briefing wasn't very detailed.

Now, Amnesty International has cited documentation showing that members of Congress, including Ms. Pelosi, had in fact been briefed including the actual techniques used.

It is hard to avoid the conclusion that Nancy Pelosi will say anything for political advantage. She is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with Congress.

Freedom of Religion vs Freedom of Worship

Recently President Obama, Secretary of State Clinton and others have been regularly referring to "Freedom of Worship" rather than what the Constitution really says, "Freedom of Religion."

This is a very important distinction and there is significant concern that the shift is deliberate.
Any person of faith knows that religious exercise is about a lot more than freedom of worship. It’s about the right to dress according to one’s religious dictates, to preach openly, to evangelize, to engage in the public square. Everyone knows that religious Jews keep kosher, religious Quakers don’t go to war, and religious Muslim women wear headscarves—yet “freedom of worship” would protect none of these acts of faith.

Those who would limit religious practice to the cathedral and the home are the very same people who would strip the public square of any religious presence. They are working to tear down roadside memorial crosses built to commemorate fallen state troopers in Utah, to strip “Under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance, and they recently stopped a protester from entering an art gallery because she wore a pro-life pin.

The effort to squash religion into the private sphere is on the rise around the world. And it’s not just confined to totalitarian regimes like Saudi Arabia. In France, students at public schools cannot wear headscarves, yarmulkes, or large crucifixes. The European Court of Human Rights has banned crucifixes from the walls of Italian schools. In Indonesia, the Constitutional Court is reviewing a law that criminalizes speech considered “blasphemous” to other faiths. Efforts to trim religion into something that fits neatly in one’s pocket is the work of dictators, not democratic leaders. So why then have our leaders taken a rhetorical scalpel to the concept of religious freedom?
Good question. If you read only one article this week, please read this entire article on FirstThings.

Arrest prevents abortion

Michelle Hall was on her way in to an abortion clinic to terminate her baby. She was confronted by a protester who pleaded with her not to do it or to at least make sure she viewed the ultrasounds. Ms. Hall was arrested and charged with assault after she put a knife to the throat of the protester.

The arrest kept Ms. Hall from getting the abortion and she later thanked the protester saying that if not for her "I probably would have gone through with it and regretted it for the rest of my life."

You can read the entire story on Hot Air. (You're certainly not going to hear about it on the nightly news!)

You might also want to read about all the fetuses found in a doctors office as police investigated the death of yet another woman who died in the process of getting an abortion.

Openness and transparency--Obama style

According to the Washington Times:

President Obama, who pledged to establish the most open and transparent administration in history, on Monday surpasses his predecessor's record for avoiding a full-fledged question-and-answer session with White House reporters in a formal press conference."

This comes after the broken promise to hold health care debates on CSPAN.

ACLU fighting against academic freedom

How is it that the American Civil Liberties Union is working against academic freedom and seeking to censor a college professor? Where do the civil liberties come in? Shouldn't academic freedom be something the ACLU would support?

It is hard to avoid concluding that the ACLU is really not about civil liberties as much as it is about advancing their own ideological (usually anti-Christian) agendas.

Keith Kimmel denied "IM GAY" license plate

According to OneNewsNow, "An Oklahoma college student is suing the state for refusing permission for a specialty license play that reads 'IM GAY." According to the Wall Street Journal, "the Oklahoma Tax Commission, which reviews and approves applications for special license tags, felt Kimmel's message violated an internal rule prohibiting plates that 'may be offensive to the general public" (OneNewsNow).

This is one of those rare occasions where I side with the gay guy. His message is not obscene. It is not inflammatory. It is not hateful and it is not abusive. I would be outraged if I was denied a license plate saying "I AM A CHRISTIAN" simply because someone might be offended. I think it is wrong to deny the same freedom of speech to this gay man.

Being "drunk in the Spirit"

I just came across a great article on "Being Drunk in the Spirit" by John Green:

Recently, I watched a videotape containing footage from churches participating in the "Toronto Blessing". I was sickened and disturbed by the occultic and animal-like manifestations which I witnessed. I would like to examine a behavior which I witnessed over and over on this video, in videos from the Brownsville Assembly of God and which I have also seen from time to time in Spirit-filled services in which I have participated. This behavior is commonly labeled 'being drunk in the Spirit'. Those in this state exhibit certain signs; staggering, falling down, slurred speech, impaired mental functioning, and bizarre behavior. People leaving 'renewal' meetings have been reportedly pulled over by police for drunk driving.(1)

Pastor Randy Clark shares that it was hard for him to enter into this experience because of his non-drinking background, and then says "…but my worship leader's a recovering alcoholic. Man, he can get right in there."(2) So being a recovering alcoholic enables you to enter more deeply into the power of the Holy Spirit? Hmmm…. Let us begin our examination by looking for examples of Scriptural precedent.

Acts chapter 2, of course, is the logical starting place. After all, the Spirit-empowered believers there were accused of being drunk. Read chapter 2, and then let us consider these points:

* No drunken behavior mentioned--only the works of God being praised in the varied languages of the crowd.
* Only a small minority--the mockers--accused them of being drunk. It was not a legitimate charge, and Peter flatly denies it.
* The prediction of Joel contains no reference to drunken behavior.
* Peter, under the power of the Spirit is not at a loss for words. He preaches a clear and powerful call to repentance.
* The crowd was orderly enough that thousands could hear Peter without the benefit of a PA system.

Our next stop is Ephesians 5:18, which tells us not to be drunk with wine, which leads to ruin, but to be filled with the Spirit. Again, let us observe:

* This is not comparing the effects of an alcoholic stupor with being drunk in the Spirit. It is a contrast of opposites! Drunkenness removes self-control. The Holy Spirit produces the fruit of self-control (Galatians 5:23).
* Verse 19 lists the results of being filled with the Spirit; praising lips, a praising heart, and a thankful attitude.

What an insult to a Holy God, to attribute drunken behavior to His Holy Spirit! While the Bible never refers to being 'drunk in the Spirit', it contains numerous condemnations of drunkenness, and it does refer to spiritual drunkenness as a judgment from God.

You can read the rest of John Greens's excellent article here.

Unfortunately, the stupidity doesn't end here. There are now people (who claim to be Christians) who promote "huffing" the Bible" (sniffing the Bible like someone would sniff cocaine) and having spiritual sex with Jesus!

It is difficult to determine whether these people are on drugs, starting some new cult, or are just secretly trying to demonstrate how unbelievably gullible and incredibly stupid some Christians can be.

Austin plane crash hits FBI offices

According to USA Breaking news, a small plane was flying unusually low--at full-throttle according to eyewitnesses--as it crashed into an office building near Austin Texas. Austin's FBI offices were hit in the crash but Homeland Security is already reporting that no terrorism is suspected.

I'm not sure anyone knows whether it was terrorism or not but I suspect that a 747 could crash into the U.S. Capitol building and the government's knee jerk reaction would be to say that no terrorism was suspected!

IRS offices were also in that building. Maybe some small business owner just discovered the "change" President Obama had in mind for "wealthy" Americans. Terrorism doesn't just mean jihad.

UPDATE: My comment about the businessman and taxes was intended as a sarcastic swipe at the Democrats' insane program of spending and taxing but, as it turns out, I apparently wasn't very far off.

Homosexuality and parent's rights

According to LifeSite News (via ADF):
Public school children in Hamilton, Ontario will not be permitted to withdraw from classes that promote homosexuality, according to the Hamilton Mountain News. The number of families seeking assistance skyrockets

According to the Associated Press,

Homelessness in rural and suburban America is straining shelters this winter as the economy founders and joblessness hovers near double digits — a "perfect storm of foreclosures, unemployment and a shortage of affordable housing," in one official's eyes.

"We are seeing many families that never before sought government help," said Greg Blass, commissioner of Social Services in Suffolk County on eastern Long Island.

"We see a spiral in food stamps, heating assistance applications; Medicaid is skyrocketing," Blass added. "It is truly reaching a stage of being alarming."

I guess this is "hope and change" Obama style. The stimulus was supposed to fix all this but instead things just keep getting worse.

The Democrats' response is essentially that it would have been much worse without the stimulus, but even if we had 50% unemployment the Democrats could always say things could have been worse.

But maybe things will get better this year. After all, much of the stimulus money--money that we were told must be spent immediately if we were to avoid financial collapse--has yet to be spent. Since this is an election year, however, you can bet that much more of that money will be spent this year--not to stimulate the economy so much as to stimulate Democrats' re-election chances.

Civil unions for heterosexual couples?

A heterosexual couple--yes, heterosexual--is challenging Austria's law that allows for civil partnerships for homosexual couples. The law apparently does not allow heterosexual couples to have civil partnership benefits. The heterosexual couple say the law is discriminatory and plan to argue their case before Austria's constitutional court. See the link at ADF.

Once marriage is redefined to include same-sex unions, the boundaries will have been broken down and there is really no logical reason to exclude heterosexual couples, siblings, or polyamory.

And advocates of these alternative lifestyles don't seem to care much about what happens to children in such arrangements.

Faith-based advisor is anti-Catholic

According to CNS News:
Harry Knox, who serves on President Barack Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and who has said the Pope is “hurting people in the name of Jesus,” has a record of making anti-Catholic statements.
What business does this guy have as the President's faith-based advisor? It sounds a bit like choosing someone who is pro-abortion to head up Pro-Life initiatives. Then again, maybe that was Obama's point.

Census Bureau has already wasted millions

According to the Associated Press,
The Census Bureau, a month away from its 2010 population count, has already wasted millions of dollars paying temporary employees who never did the work and others who overbilled for travel, according to excerpts of an audit obtained by The Associated Press.
This is the same government that Democrats think can do a better job with health care!

Two new nuclear power plants

If there is a silver lining about having a Democratic Congress and President it is that they can sometimes get things done that Republicans could never do. For example, President Obama is proposing to build two nuclear power plants! If Republicans proposed such a thing Democrats would be coming out of the woodwork to do everything possible to demonize and torpedo the proposal, but because President Obama proposes it, just maybe it has a chance (if he's really serious)!

We might also note that Gitmo is still not closed, we are still in Iraq and we have stepped up the war in Afghanistan. If Republicans were in charge, Leftist loonies would be throwing hysterical tizzyfits every night on mainline media news. But because it is a Democratic President and Congress, the relative silence is pleasantly deafening.

"Go gansta" and "start breaking kneecaps"!

"Go gansta"! "Make them pay the price"! "Start breaking kneecaps"?!!!

This is apparently the Left's version of tolerance and lowing the tone of the rhetoric! If such statements were made against Muslims or African-Americans, my guess is that the Obama administration would begin a hate crimes investigation!

Don't capture.....just kill!

After all the self-righteous indignation and hysteria Democrats leveled against the Bush administration for Gitmo (which, by the way, is still open, contrary to Obama promises), the Obama administration has a solution to the problem of interrogating and trying terrorists.

Rather than capturing terrorists and then having to detain and try them in a court of law, the Obama administration has decided to just...

Where are all those Left-wing human rights advocates now?

No significant rise in temperatures since 1995

"Professor Phil Jones, who is at the centre of the 'Climategate' affair, conceded that there has been no 'statistically significant' rise in temperatures since 1995" (Daily Express, UK).

And yet in spite of this and the revelations about the rigging of global warming data, Obama and the Democrats want to press on full steam ahead on more government intervention to stop global warming.

Global warming appears to be much more about politics than science.

Thousands of meetings with Muslim groups?

Thousands and townhalls and meetings in which U.S. government officials were meeting with Muslims? Someone has asked,
Is there any other religion they've had 'thousands' of townhalls and meetings with, or are they only listening to Muslims? How about the Coptic and Iraqi Christians being slaughtered--any listening going on with the authorities there?

Obama's 'threat assessment of pro-life groups

While the Obama administration didn't have the time to track Islamic jihadists like the one who killed the soldiers at Fort Hood, they apparently had time to do a "threat assessment" on pro-life groups! Robert Spencer comments:
DHS has only so much in the way of resources. The same thing goes for the whole military and intelligence establishment. And while authorities couldn't be bothered doing anything about Nidal Hasan, the mass-murdering Fort Hood jihadist, or other jihadis in the rank, for two years after being apprised of their presence, they had time o develop a 'threat assessment' on people who constituted no terror threat at all. (And before you start flooding the comments field and my e-mail box with with messages about the murders of abortion doctors, not that eight people have been killed in such violence since 1993, while there have been nearly 15,000 Islamic jihad attacks since 9/11.

Obama wants to track your cell phone

The Bush administration wanted to tap terrorist's overseas phone calls. Not so fast, said the Democrats. If those phone calls are routed through phone lines that go through the United States, Democrats supported the terrorists right(!) to privacy and opposed the Bush administration tooth and nail!

So Democrats didn't want to violate terrorists' privacy, but they apparently don't give a rip about your privacy! The Obama administration wants legal authority to track your cell phone. According to the FoxNation blog:
the Obama administration has argued that warrantless tracking is permitted because Americans enjoy no "reasonable expectation of privacy" in their--or at least their cell phones'--whereabouts.
My first impression was that this is just hypocrisy and inconsistency on the part of Democrats. On second thought, however, it may actually make sense.

During the Bush days, Democrats were not really concerned about the first amendment or terrorist rights. They were just concerned about regaining power, and anything they could do to smear President Bush and the Republicans was, in their mind, fair game--even if it put national security at risk.

Now that they are in power, things are different. Not only do terrorists have no right to privacy, but, according to Obama, neither do American citizens--unless, of course, it is the "privacy" women enjoy who want to kill their unborn child.

I don't mind government agencies tracking our cell phones--as long as they have a court order or authorization from a FISA court.

Not enough faith to be an atheist

Some fascinating facts:
"The expansion rate of the Big Bang had to be accurate to within one part in [10 followed by 55 zeros--The actual quotes use scientific notation but as far as I know, that's not possible in blogger]. Any slower and the universe would have collapsed. Any faster and there would be no stars or planetary systems. In either case, life would not be possible."

"The force of gravity had to be accurate to within on part in [10 followed by 40 zeros]. Otherwise, stars could not form, and life would be impossible."

"The mass density of the universe had to be accurate to within on part in [10 followed by 60 zeros]. Otherwise, life-sustaining stars could not have formed."
This comes from The Making of an Atheist by philosopher James S. Spiegel (pg 46), quoting from former atheist philosopher Antony Flew. And all of this was just for conditions for the development of life to be theoretically possible! (Antony Flew was influenced by MIT scientist Gerald Schroeder). The actual appearance of life is much more problematic:
"...two scientists, Fred Hoyle and Chandra Wickramasinghe, calculated the odds of life emerging from non-living matter to be on in [10 followed by 40,000 zeros]." To put this enormous figure in perspectice, consider that the number of atoms in the known universe is [10 followed by 80 zeros]--a paltry sum by comparison. Moreover, consider the fact that statisticians, as a general rule, consider any 'possibility' less than on in [10 followed by 50 zeros] to be impossible" (Spiegel, 48).I just don't have enough faith to be an atheist.
I just don't have enough faith to be an atheist.

Planned Parenthood and quality heath care

Superbowl green police ad

Sometimes I wonder if this isn't the American dream as envisioned by some Democrats:

Fundamentalism: Christian and Muslim

Islamic fundamentalism says, "We love death more than you love life," as they kill innocent people.

Christian fundamentalism says, God "has not called us to go out and kill the enemy but to die for the enemy that they might be won" (R.C. Sproul. "The Second World War." TableTalk, March 2010, 27).

The second coming of Nazi Germany

Iran constantly spews venomous hatred towards the West in general and Israel in particular, and regularly threatens the very existence of the latter all the while sending massive amounts of arms to Hamas and Hezbollah in preparation for their goal.

Iran has tested numerous short/medium range missiles and are working feverishly toward developing nuclear weapons (According to AFP, Ahmadinejad just announced that Iran will now work on enrichment of even higher grade uranium).

Iran recently launched a rocket into space, no doubt as the first step toward the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles to deliver their WMD.

And this morning, the Telegraph.UK has revealed that "Iran has begun making 'advanced' unmanned drones capable of carrying out 'assaults with high precision." Not only that, but Reuters is reporting that "Iran will soon unveil a domestically-made air defence system with at least the same capability as Russia's S-300 anti-aircraft hardware..."

We are watching a soon-to-be-nuclear version of Nazi Germany arise before our very eyes all the while the Obama administration pursues a program of appeasement that would have made Chamberlain proud!

WND in Iraq?

After the discovery of a buried missile in Iraq, Britain's "MailOnline" asks, "Have the finally found a 'weapon of mass destruction in Iraq?"

If it turned out that there were traces of biological or chemical weapons on this missile, I'm sure Code Pink, Hollywood, Nancy Pelosi and all the Democrats would all offer their sincere apologies to President Bush.

(Actually, I suspect it is more likely that they would actually defend Saddam Hussein before they would apologize to President Bush).

Waterboarding saved lives

A recently declassified document confirms what the CIA said in 2005, i.e. it was the waterboarding of 9/11 mastermind Kahlid Sheik Mohammad that led to information that thwarted the planned attack on a high-rise building in Los Angeles.

If Barack Obama had been in charge, hundreds--if not thousands of innocent mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers--would have died needlessly. These people owe their lives to George W. Bush and the CIA. See CNSNews for the story.

Just to re-iterate my position on waterboarding. I do not believe waterboarding should be used on every terrorist and I do not believe it should be used as a "fishing" expedition. But I do believe it should be an option available when we know that a terrorist-murderer has information that will save lives.

MRI shows some vegitative people are aware

Whoa, now this is just scary! A man presumed to be in a vegetative state for five years has responded to questions--but his responses are only visible on an MRI!

In other words, he is not really a "vegetable." He is to some degree aware of his surroundings. He is trapped in there! Not only that, but there are others like him. Read the story on CNN.

Massacres in Jos Nigeria

Michele Obama and obesity

Michele Obama is on a campaign to fight obesity. I find it a bit ironic that the Obama's oppose behavior leading to death from obesity, but promote behavior leading to death from AIDS.

After all, why should it be any more acceptable to criticize fat people than it is to criticize gay people? Maybe fat people overeat because of genetic factors. Maybe they were born that way. Who is to say that overeating is wrong--who are they to judge?

Maybe fatophobic bigots like the Obamas need to stop their hateful anti-obesity campaigns and be more tolerant of alternative lifestyles, like overeating!

OR, maybe they should just be consistent and oppose all unhealthy behaviors, whether those behaviors lead to obesity or AIDS.

(For those interested in losing weight, I would recommend Livestrong.com by the Lance Armstrong foundation. I've been using it for about a year and a half and have lost 82 pounds).

On a related note, an Obama adviser is standing by his remark that the Pope is hurting people in the name of Jesus. This is because the Pope does not support the use of condoms to slow the spread of AIDS.

In other words, the Pope believes that anal sex is sin and should not be practiced. If everyone followed the Pope's advise, no one would die due to AIDS contracted from anal sex.

Obama's adviser, on the other hand, encourages people to continue practicing anal sex with a condom which is not a surefire prevention of AIDS. That means that many people will continue to get AIDS by following this adviser's advice.

And somehow he thinks that it is the Pope who is hurting people!

Could the Left possibly be any more out of touch?

Harmful effects of pornography--another study

According to TimesOnline, a new study is confirming what we already knew about pornography: It has negative effects on people. For example, boys who view pornography are statistically more likely to sexually harass women.

Wouldn't you think that an anti-pornography campaign would be something the National Organization for Women would embrace? Maybe they would, if they weren't the National Organization for liberal, politically correct women.

Born again American

I'm not sure I like the phrase "born again American" and I'm quite sure I don't like placing the Bible and Bill of Rights on the same level, but its nice to hear some good old-fashioned patriotism(hat tip: Professor Ed).

Spending more than we make

According to the Wall Street Journal, the proposed Obama budget projects an income of 2.6 trillion dollars and expenditures of 3.8 trillion dollars. The Democrats propose to spend 1.2 trillion dollars more than they will bring in.

Imagine if you ran your household budget like this!

But hey, they don't care. It's not their money and while they might demand that corporate CEO's go to jail for such blatant mismanagement of shareholders' money, congresspeople are never held criminally accountable for their legislative malpractice.

Pelosi's abuse of the Air Force

According to Judicial Watch:
The government watchdog group Judicial Watch obtained documents from the Air Force detailing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s use of US Air Force aircraft for Congressional Delegations (CODELs). According to the documents obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Speaker’s military travel cost the United States Air Force $2,100,744.59 over a two-year period — $101,429.14 of which was for in-flight expenses, including food and alcohol.
This from the woman who announced that she would reside over the most ethical congress in history!

Kind of like having criminal in charge of the penitentiary!

54 dead in Baghdad

According to the Associated Press: "Iraqi officials say a female suicide bomber mingling among Shiite pilgrims in northern Baghdad has detonated an explosives belt, killing at least 54 people."

The death toll includes 18 women and 12 children. 117 people have been injured.

The greatest oppressor of Muslims in the world is their own religion!

The Case for Israel

What you've heard about Israel and what you think you know about Israel may be all wrong.

I just finished reading an outstanding book that asks and answers 32 questions about Israel. For example:

Did European Jews replace Palestinians?

(Short answer: The Palestine to which the European Jews...immigrated was vastly underpopulated, and the land unto which the Jews moved was, in fact, bought primarily from absentee landlords and real estate speculators").

Have the Jews always rejected the two-sate solution?

(Short answer: "As soon as partition into two states or homelands was proposed, the Jews accepted it and the Arabs rejected it").

Have the Jews exploited the Holocaust "at he expense of the Palestinians who bear no responsibility for Hitler's genocide against the Jews?

(Short answer: "The Palestinian leadership with the acquiescence of most of the Palestinian Arabs actively supported and assisted the Holocaust and Nazi Germany...").

Were Jews a minority in what became Israel?

(Short answer: "The Jews were a substantial majority in those areas of Palestine partitioned by the United Nations for a Jewish state").

Has Israel's victimization of the Palestinians been the primary cause of the Arab-Israeli conflict?

(Short Answer: Arab rejection of Israel's right to exist has long been the cause of the problem").

Did Israel create the Arab refugee problem?

(Short answer: "The problem was created by a war initiated by the Arabs").

Has Israel made serious efforts at peace?

(Short answer: "Israel has offered the Palestinians every reasonable opportunity to make peace but the Palestinians have rejected every such offer...").

Was Arafat Right in turning down the Barak-Clinton peace proposal?

(Not only have Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush placed all the blame on Arafat but so have many of Arafat's closest advisers").

Is Israel a racist state?

(Short answer: Every other state in the area...has an officially established religion, Islam, and discriminates both in law and in fact against non-Muslims, especially Jews. Israel, in contrast, is a secular state that is religioiusly and racially pluralistic with freedom of religion for all").

Is the settlement in the West Bank and Gaza a major barrier to peace?

(Short answer: The Arabs and Palestinians refused to make peace before there was a single settlement, and the Palestinians refused to make peace when Ehud Barack offered to end the settlements").

Is there a moral equivalence between Palestinian terrorists and Israeli responses?

(Short answer: "Ever reasonable school of philosophy, theology, jurisprudence, and common sense distinguishes between deliberately targeting civilians and inadvertently killing civilians while targeting terrorists who hide among them").

These are just a few of the questions asked and answered in the book. In each case the short answer is followed by extended documented proof--not from Israeli apologists, but from neutral sources and often from sources ordinarily antagonistic to Israel.

Among other things, the book demonstrates the remarkable inconsistency and hypocrisy of those who continually attack Israel (the author is not hesitant to criticize Israel for its mistakes) while turning a blind eye to so many other nations which have been far, far worse than Israel.

The book is entitled, The Case for Israel by lawyer Alan Dershowitz. It is outstanding and should be at the top of everyone's reading list.
