The bill for 9/11 conspirators

Just think about this for a minute: Because Democrats insist on trying the 9/11 conspirators as common criminals rather than what they are--enemy soldiers--the American taxpayer will get stuck paying an estimated200 million dollars per year--and that is just for security alone!

This, at a time when government spending is already spiraling out of control and millions of Americans are losing their jobs and homes!

That's Barack Obama and the Democrats in Congress: Could they possibly be any more out of touch?

The pro-choice charade in Washington State

Proposed Washington State legislation supported by Planned Parenthood may be putting crisis pregnancy centers at risk.

State of the Union: The facts

The Associated Press has a great article fact-checking President Obama's State of the Union Address. For example, Obama said, ""Starting in 2011, we are prepared to freeze government spending for three years...."

Sounds good but according to the AP the savings would amount to "less than 1 percent of the deficit."

Sounds to me like more smoke and mirrors by our President.

The President also lied, I mean, said that he has "excluded lobbyists from policymaking jobs."

The AP points out that "seven waivers from the ban have been granted to White House officials alone."

Please read the entire article.

Joy Behar gets it right on gay marriage

Carolyn Plocher has an outstanding article about gay marriage on NewsBusters. If you read only one article this week, please read this one. A few excerpts appear below:
If it isn't obvious already, Joy Behar doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut. On Jan. 26's "The View," a clueless Behar accidentally tipped the agenda of much of the gay and same-sex marriage movement.

"They," she said, referring to gays, "don't take monogamy and infidelity the same way that the straight community does."

Such things as fidelity, she added, don't have the "same weight" with gays as with straights, and - you might want to sit down for this - Behar was actually right for once.

A 1997 study published in the Journal of Sex Research found that the average number of sexual partners for older homosexual men ranged between 101-500. And 10-15 percent of the men reported having had more than 1,000 sexual partners in their lifetime.

16 year old sentenced to 101 lashes

According to the UK Telegraph, a 16 year old girl has been sentenced to 101 lashes for immorality--because she was raped!

According to the Qur'an, (4:15, 24:4, 24:6, 24:13) it takes four witnesses before someone can be convicted of rape. This young girl apparently couldn't produce the four witnesses, therefore she must be guilty of immorality.

Welcome to the Muslim world of Sharia law!

Why is the National Organization for Women so silent on these atrocities.

Why LGF is no longer conservative

Quite some time ago, Recliner Commentaries followed and frequently cited a very popular blog known as "Little Green Footballs." Then, suddenly LGF did a 180 degree change in outlook, turning from conservative to radically liberal. The change was puzzling, to say the least.

Then Charles Johnson, the editor of LGF, gave his reasons for the change. His about-face was so complete and his reasons for the change are so absurd, it is hard not to wonder if someone threatened or blackmailed him.

Anyway, Dennis Prager does an excellent job answering the LGF objections to conservatives point by point. Well worth reading, even if you've never heard of Little Green Footballs.

"a really good one-term president"

Sexism on the Left

In a recent interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer, President Obama greeted the journalist with a kiss on the cheek. Probably no big deal. In fact, it probably sent a tingle up Ms. Sawyer's leg but I can't help thinking that if President Bush had done it, he would have been crucified for being sexist (and maybe sued for sexual harassment :-)

In fact, wasn't President Bush condemned as sexist by the media when he (gasp!) put his hand on the back of German Chancellor Angela Merkel?

And then there was the incredibly condescending, if not outright sexist, remarks by Democratic Senator Arlen Spector to Michele Bachmanm--telling her to act like a lady! If a republican Senator had said such a thing to a Democratic congresswoman, the National Organization for Women and every Democrat in Congress would be demanding his resignation.

The real amazing thing is that those on the Left seem too dense to even see it!

Lawfare: Islam's new weapon of Jihad

Radical Muslims' new weapon of Jihad: "Lawfare," i.e. using U.S. libel laws to file lawsuits against those who criticize Islam.

Even though the lawsuits are frivolous, the threat of a lawsuit and the possibility of going bankrupt defending oneself in court is enough to squelch free speech, which is exactly what Muslims who engage in lawfare are after.

Nine churches torched!

The number of suspected church arsons in East Texas is now up to nine. Read the story in Baptist Press.

Amending the First Amendment

Ralph Nadar's group, "Public Citizen" is advocating a Constitutional Amendment to restrict freedom of speech. See Ed Morrissey's excellent article.

This is about the Supreme Court's decision yesterday to remove unconstitutional restrictions on the rights of corporations to be politically active. The Left is absolutely beside themselves on this because big labor are lapdogs for the Democrats and the Democrats don't want any competition from big business. The fact that laws would be passed to restrict one and not the other was blatantly partisan and unconstitutional from the start!

Seven churches burned in Texas

In the last three weeks, seven churches have been burned in East Texas (KLTV via ADF).

Has this been on the national news? If so I've missed it. I'm quite sure that if a single abortion clinic or meeting place for a gay-activist group had been burned, it would be on the national news for days, if not weeks.

Girl sentenced to prision and 90 lashes

In that Islamic paradise where Sharia law rules every aspect of life (Saudi Arabia), a 13 year old girl was sentenced be flogged with 90 lashes in front of her classmates and then to spend two months in prison.

What heinous crime did this terrible girl commit to deserve such punishment?

She (gasp!) brought a mobile phone to school!

Poverty and suicide bombers

Poverty and suicide bombers:
A survey of the research on who becomes a suicide bomber puts the lie to the claim that terrorism is the inevitable consequence of hopelessness, poverty, and disenfranchisement. 'As logical as the poverty-breeds-terrorism argument may seem, study after study shows that suicide attackers and their supporters are rarely ignorant or impoverished.' Many were raised 'in relatively prosperous circumstances, and attended college.' One study of nearly 250 aspiring Palestinian suicide bombers found that 'none were uneducated, desperately poor, simple-minded, or depressed" (Dershowitz, Alan. The Case for Israel. 114).
Not that this will convince liberals, of course. They are not ones to allow facts to get in the way of a good theory.

Raising debt limit by 1.9 trillion

According to the Associated Press,
Senate Democrats on Wednesday proposed allowing the federal government to borrow an additional $1.9 trillion to pay its bills, a record increase that would permit the national debt to reach $14.3 trillion.

6.1quake hits Haiti this morning

According to the Washington Post, another earthquake--this one was 6.1--hit Haiti this morning:
A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Wednesday morning, shaking buildings and sending screaming people running into the streets only eight days after the country's capital was devastated by an apocalyptic quake.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the new quake hit at 6:03 a.m. (1103 GMT) about 35 miles (56 kilometers) northwest of the capital of Port-au-Prince. It struck at a depth of 13.7 miles (22 kilometers) but was too far inland to generate any tidal waves in the Caribbean.

Wails of terror rose Wednesday as frightened survivors of last week's quake poured out of unstable buildings. It was not immediately possible to ascertain what additional damage the new quake may have caused.

Last week's magnitude-7 quake killed an estimated 200,000 people in Haiti, left 250,000 injured and made 1.5 million homeless. A massive international aid effort has been launched, but it is struggling with logistical problems, and many Haitians are still desperate for food and water.

Samaritan's Purse and World Vision are on the ground in Haiti giving aid.

Anyone can buy a truck?

In President Obama's speech today in the Vermont Avenue Baptist Church, he said, "I know it's been a hard road we've traveled this year to rescue the economy, but the economy is growing again. The job losses have finally slowed..."

Imagine for a minute that John McCain was in the White House and after a year in office and nearly a trillion dollars spent to "stimulate" the economy, the evidence that his economic programs were working was that the rate of job losses have finally slowed!

If it were John McCain, not a single Democrat in the entire country would buy such nonsense!

Then, to make matters worse, in his speech in Boston Obama attacked Scott Brown's truck add saying, "anyone can buy a truck."

No, Mr. President. With over 10 million people unemployed it is a pretty safe bet that not everyone can buy a truck!

I have a dream!

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" (Dr. Martin Luther King).

Chai Feldblum against the First Amendment

According to CNS.Com,
Chai Feldblum, the Georgetown University law professor nominated by President Obama to serve on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, has written that society should “not tolerate” any “private beliefs,” including religious beliefs, that may negatively affect homosexual “equality.”
Let's just call tyranny by its name. Ms. Feldblum apparently does not believe in the Constitutional protection to freedom of religion.

President Obama has sworn an oath of office which requires him to uphold the Constitution of the United States. How is it upholding the Constitution to appoint someone someone who advocates that the government should not tolerate certain religious beliefs?

It seems to me that Obama has a constitutional obligation to remove Ms. Feldblum's name from consideration, or face impeachment charges for violating his oath of office.

Those who think the gay marriage debate is really about gay marriage are either terribly misinformed or hopelessly naive.

Obama Czar opposes Free Sppech, part 2

Today, one of my responders took issue to my January 14 post, "Obama Czar opposes Free Speech. He thought I was being unfair to Mr. Sunstein

I thought the issue was important enough to post my response on the front page. Here it is.

Thank you for your response. I agree with you that WND, as usual, sensationalized this issue, but I think the concern they raise is real.

No one is going to argue about the government’s investigation and dissemination of facts about crimes as was done, for example, by the 9/11 Commission or the Warren Commission Report.

And I don’t think anyone, except some hard core Leftists would object to the government trying to correct foreign conspiracy theories, like those that exist in Muslim countries.

The concern is when Sunstein suggested that “a distinctive tactic for breaking up the hard core of extremists who supply conspiracy theories: cognitive infiltration of extremist groups, whereby government agents or their allies (acting either virtually or in real space, and either openly or anonymously) will undermine the crippled epistemology of those who subscribe to such theories (page 16).” Such infiltration would also be so the “government might undertake (legal) tactics for breaking up the tight cognitive clusters of extremist theories, arguments and rhetoric that are produced by the hard core and reinforce it in turn” (23).

Although Sunstein is careful to not openly advocate censorship he does not completely close the door suggesting that “We could imagine circumstances in which a conspiracy theory became so pervasive, and so dangerous, that censorship would be thinkable.” (21)

[My cynical side wonders if an example might be when the “pervasive” and “dangerous” theory about the hoax of global warming began to undermine Obama’s proposal for Cap and Trade. Would censorship then become “thinkable”?]

If Sunstein were talking about cases 1) in which criminal acts have been performed, or 2) where the suspicion of likely criminal acts rises to the level of court-issued search warrants, or 3) in the case of national security terrorist threats, then I might agree with him.

But when Sunstein lists among these “extremist” theories, “that the theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud” it seems pretty clear that Sunstein is advocating government intervention not just in potential criminal acts, but in whatever the government wants to label as extremist.

So for example, the government may decide that pastors who preach against homosexual behavior are extremist, homophobic hate-mongers whose ministries should infiltrated and undermined!

This may sound far-fetched, but preaching against homosexual behavior is already being labeled hate speech in this country and pastors have been prosecuted for it in other countries. You can’t censor such speech in America (yet) because of the First Amendment, so Sunstein’s proposal is like an end-around the First Amendment. His proposal could have the same effect.

The point is that Sunstein’s proposal opens the door to having the government decide what constitutes “extremist” speech. The proposal then suggests giving the government the power to infiltrate and undermine groups groups that have committed no crimes and have made no threats, simply because someone in government doesn't like what they are saying and has decided to label it "extremist".

Under Sundstein’s proposal, the Bush administration could have labeled Code Pink’s actions “extremist” and seek to use government infiltrators to undermine them.

There can be little doubt that if Gore had been elected he would have considered speech against global warming to be “extremist” and even “dangerous.”

Given this power, the Obama administration could label all kinds of speech extremist: arguments against global warming, abortion, homosexual behavior, or even against his health care bill.

Once the government considers something “extremist” they would then be free to send government agents out to infiltrate and undermine such speech and America will be even further on its current path toward tyranny.

Sunstein’s proposal, though couched the careful terms of an academic paper, is fundamentally anti-freedom of speech and should be of significant concern to all Americans—especially to those liberal Americans who were so concerned about Bush’s Patriot Act that they elected Sunstein’s boss!

U.N. abandons critically injured patients

Unbelievable! Critically ill patients desperately needing care and the U.N. orders all of its doctors out due to security concerns. Only CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta stayed behind and worked all night to save them. Kudo's to Dr. Gupta. (and hat tip to Kevin I for sending this in).

Once again, like most organizations on the Left, the U.N. has shown itself to be utterly clueless (but I guess at least they didn't rape the victims as U.N. workers have done in some countries)!

Please, don't waste your money on the U.N. relief efforts. Give to Samaritan's Purse, World Vision, the Red Cross, or some other worthy relief effort.

Stratfor warns of terrorist attack

Stratfor warns of possible imminent terrorist attack:

Al Qaeda kills more Muslims than Westerners

According to a report entitled, ""Deadly Vanguards: A Study of Al Qaeda's Violence Against Muslims," "only 15 percent of the fatalities resulting from al Qaeda attacks between 2004 and 2008 were Westerners." The vast majority of those dead are Muslims (Washington Times).

Although Muslims are not to kill fellow Muslims, this is no problem for Muslim extremists. The Muslims they kill are just defined as not being truly Muslim. Then, let the slaughter continue.

I wish more Muslims would open their eyes to the truth that Islam is the world's greatest oppressor and persecutor of Muslims.

Coakley and redefining freedom

On the radio, someone named Ken Pittman, interviewed Martha Coakley, the Democratic candidate for Senate from Massachusetts:

Ken Pittman: Right, if you are a Catholic, and believe what the Pope teaches that any form of birth control is a sin. ah you don’t want to do that.

Martha Coakley: No we have a seperation of church and state Ken, lets be clear.

Ken Pittman: In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom.

Martha Coakley: (……uh, eh…um..) The law says that people are allowed to have that. You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room. (Washington Times)

In other words, like many--if not most Democrats, Ms. Coakley believes that the government should determine when, where and under what conditions you have freedom of religion and freedom of speech.

That's the kind of "freedom" people have in China, Cuba, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc.

Obma czar opposes free speech?

According to World Net Daily:
In a lengthy academic paper, President Obama's regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein, argued the U.S. government should ban "conspiracy theorizing."

Among the beliefs Sunstein would ban is advocating that the theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud.

I wonder if Mr. Sunstein would also ban 9/11 truthers who think the Bush administration was somehow responsible for 9/11 too, or would he just ban the "conspiracies" that were unfavorable to the current administration.

The bottom line is that when the government gets to decide which "conspiracies" to outlaw, you no longer have freedom of speech.

According to the WND article, Sunstein also wants to regulate broadcasting. So it appears that we actually have a top government "czar" who is actively opposing freedom of speech.

That should send a chill up the spine of every thinking American.

Christianity becoming illegal in England?

According to the U.K.'s Telegraph, "under the Bill, which will be considered by the House of Lords on Monday, it would be illegal for a Christian charity to sack a senior manager for adultery or living an openly gay lifestyle." It would also be illegal to discriminate against women by not allowing them to become priests or pastors (Telegraph.co.UK).

The fact that such tyranny would even be proposed in England would have been unthinkable only a generation ago. What's next? Burning at the stake? And how long before the Obama administration tries the same thing in America?

Democrats: Racism and hypocrisy

"Democrats on Sunday rallied to the defense of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid from a political firestorm caused by his newly reported remarks during the 2008 presidential campaign describing Barack Obama as "light-skinned" who chose to speak "with no Negro dialect" (FoxNation).

Harry Reid has apologized to President Obama and President Obama has forgiven him. The case should be closed......except for the monumental hypocrisy of the Democrats! Some of the same Democrats who are now rallying around Harry Reid, refused to accept Republican Trent Lott's request for forgiveness when he made what sounding like inappropriate comments (though there is some question about what Lott actually meant by his comments).

For Democrats, it is really not about racism. Racism is merely a club to intimidate and beat their opponents in to silence.

Code Pink's ad, "Arrest the War Criminals" links to another Code Pink site which calls for the kidnapping of former President George W. Bush, his wife, and former members of the Bush administration.

The article ends by asking, "Does CIA Director Leon Panetta know that a close ally of the president he serves is asking a radical Muslim group with terrorist sympathies to join them in “cleansing our country”?"

CIA? Sound to me like the Secret Service should be investigating this.

Is there any such thing as treason anymore?

President Obama said today that "America's first line of defense is timely, accurate intelligence…." Really? Are you trying to put our nation at risk or do you just not get it?

Global warming in Crosby, North Dakota

Wind chills will reach up to 50 below zero in Crosby, North Dakota.

I could be wrong, but my guess is that Al Gore doesn't have many supporters in Crosby these days.

Embarrassing Al Gore

On the FoxNation blog:
This past week, I was having lunch at a restaurant in midtown Manhattan when my colleague noticed Al and Tipper Gore dining across the room with another couple. It was a frigid day, with record-breaking temperatures keeping most people indoors, and we were the last two tables in the restaurant.

As the Gore party started walking out of the room, my colleague called out, "Hey, Al, how's all that global warming working out for you?" Gore turned around and stared at us with a completely dumbfounded look on his face. He was speechless.
Anyone who has read this blog very long knows that I am not a fan of Al Gore and that I have come to believe that global warming is a sham. It is one thing, however, to debate the issues. It is another thing to call someone with whom you disagree out for embarrassment in a public restaurant. That is tactless, tasteless and does not help conservatives.

Whoever did it owes Mr. Gore a public apology.

American Library Association censorship

The Culture and Media Institute has an absolutely outstanding article on the American Library Association. Well, OK its about more than just censorship. It's about ALA agendas and hypocrisy as well.

Attempted terrorist attacks on the rise

There have been 32 attempted terrorist attacks in America since 9/11. Turns out that about one third of them have taken place since Barack Obama took office less than one year ago (Time).

Could this sudden rise in attempted terrorist attacks be because Obama's apology tours are interpreted by our enemies as weakness?

Could the rise be due to Obama's commitment to close Gitmo, or his commitment to treat treat terrorist prisoners more kindly?

Or could it because terrorists know if they get caught, they now get to be tried as criminals and have a platform to voice hateful propaganda at American taxpayer expense?

No one knows for sure, of course, but there is one question you can answer: Do you feel safer now than you did before the Democrats took over?

More fraud in the stimulus program

Obamacare and the IRS

The problem Democrats want to fix with their health care proposal is that there are so many people who can't afford health insurance. Their solution: Make buying health insurance mandatory by law.

How do you enforce such a law? Easy. You turn to one of the most feared institutions in the entire country--an institution that has the power to garnish your wages and confiscate your property; an institution before which you stand guilty until you spend a fortune to prove yourself innocent--the IRS.

Welcome to the brave new world of Obamacare.

Polyamory: The new frontier

One of the arguments used against same-sex marriage is that it would lead to acceptance of other "alternative lifestyles" such as polyamory. This argument was pretty much condemned as fear mongering. Turns out that it wasn't just fear mongering after all.

In June Hillary Clinton was praised for extending federal benefits to same-sex couples. Now unmarried opposite sex couples are demanding the same benefits. Eventually those involved in polyamorous relationships will no doubt also demand the same benefits. All as America goes bankrupt and marriage becomes more and more meaningless.

One thing that gets lost in all these discussions about alternative lifestyles is the welfare of the kids. But progressives are not about to let something as trivial as the welfare of children stand in the way of their sexual freedom.

1,200 crimes against churches in 2009

Every time a Muslim slaughters a bunch of people, such as in the Fort Hood massacre, we immediately hear dire warnings about an anti-Muslim backlash.

In 2008 there were 1,732 victims of anti-religious hate crimes. The vast majority of these were against Jews. Only 7.5, or 130 of these 1,732 victims were Muslims! Just to put things in perspective, in 2009 there were 1,200 crimes against churches in America.

Most of these crimes against churches, however, were not counted in the hate crimes statistics because hate crimes prosecution is very selectively applied. Shouldn't that fact make hate crimes legislation unconstitutional on the basis of the fourteenth amendment which requires equal protection under the law?

Gun ownership up. Crime down.

According to the Christian Science Monitor:
The oft-cited credo that more guns equal more crime is being tested by facts on the ground this year: Even as gun ownership has surged in the US in the past year, violent crime, including murder and robbery, has dropped steeply.
The violent crime rate in Minneapolis has fallen for the third straight year in a row. The rates began falling only about a year and a half after Minnesota passed the Minnesota Citizens Personal Protection Act which allows licensed citizens to carry concealed weapons. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

Federal benefits for unmarried couples too

According to the LA Times (via ADF):
Reporting from Washington - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton won praise in June after pushing to extend many federal benefits traditionally provided to diplomats' spouses to gay and lesbian partners.

Since then, unmarried heterosexual couples have been lining up to ask for benefits too. They have approached the State Department's personnel office and the diplomats' union, arguing that they are entitled to equal treatment. At least one couple has threatened to challenge the rules in court as discriminatory.

White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan was briefed in October on an assassination attempt by Al Qaeda that investigators now believe used the same underwear bombing technique as the Nigerian suspect who tried to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Christmas Day, U.S. intelligence and administration officials tell NEWSWEEK.
Can you imagine the rabid Left-wing hysteria if this had happened under President Bush?

"Once in a generation cold snap"

Forecasters in North Carolina are predicting a "once in a generation" cold snap for that region.

As I write this from my home in Minnesota, the actual temperature outside is 15 below zero with a 29 below zero wind-chill factor. According to my computer, that is 17 degrees colder than it is in Nome, Alaska right now.

Its a good thing we have global warming going on or it might get cold in Minnesota!

Britain--coldest winter in 100 years?

In the wake of the recent global warming conference in Copenhagen, the Telegraph.UK is reporting that Britain may be facing one of the coldest winters in 100 years!

Suicide bomber at Pakistan volleyball game

According to RTE News:

A suicide bomber blew himself up at a volleyball game in northwest Pakistan on Friday, killing at least 25 people, a police official said.

Today's explosion is the latest in a long series of deadly attacks by militants.

'We have confirmed a figure of 25 deaths. There are many more wounded who are being rushed to hospitals in private vehicles,' the official, Habibullah Khan, told Reuters by telephone.

Another Muslim suicide bomber killing innocent Muslim men women and children. This Muslim jihadist apparently didn't know of the peaceful, compassionate nature of Islam.

I love Muslims. I hate Islam. Muslims are people for whom Christ died. Islam is a satanic political-religious ideology that--since its very beginning--has not only been responsible for the ruthless oppression and slaughter of millions of "infidels" but routinely oppresses and slaughters Muslims as well.

UPDATE: Reuters reports that the death toll is now up to 75.

UPDATE: Fox News is reporting that the death toll is now up to 96 as of Dec. 2.

Compassion for the underwear bomber?

As I understand it, in the process of trying to blow up over an airliner full of innocent people in the skies over Detroit, the "underwear bomber" inadvertently started a fire in his own lap which burned for a while before it was put out. I would imagine that this left some pretty serious (third degree?) burns on his stomach, thighs and genitals (ouch!).

Perhaps a suitable punishment would be to put him in a prison cell with no medical attention to allow him to suffer the full consequences of his satanic hatred. In fact, we could even video tape his excruciating agony and make this available to other jihadists worldwide as a warning that this could happen to you too if you try to blow up a plane.

But no, what we Americans actually do is put this jihadist in a hospital and provide him with powerful pain-killing medication and the best medical treatment money can buy--all at American tax-payer expense, no doubt.

Why would we do this? Why would we spend thousands of dollars to ease the suffering and provide healing to someone who mercilessly tried to kill so many innocent men, women and children?

Could it be a due to a remnant of our Christian heritage and the teachings of Jesus who said, "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you" (Luke 6:27)?

Compassion for ones' enemies certainly doesn't come from our secular culture. While there are many atheists who, fortunately, are kind and compassionate individuals, there is nothing about atheism as a philosophy that would necessarily require anyone to love ones' enemies. In fact, atheist philosophy in China, North Korea, Cambodia, Cuba, the former Soviet Union, etc. led to the deaths of more than one hundred million people in the last century!

If the situation was reversed--e.g. if a non-Muslim, American suicide bomber (the very idea silly!) had tried to blow up a couple hundred people in a fundamentalist Muslim village--I'm quite sure the Muslim response would not be to provide medical care. I've read the Qur'an from cover to cover. There are no commands in the Qur'an to love or do good to ones' enemies. Precisely the opposite.
