In the President's Secret Service

I just finished reading In the President’s Secret Service (2009) by Ronald Kesler. In a nutshell, the book was about the hardworking, dedicated, capable agents in the Secret Service, and the insensitive, incompetent jerks in upper management for whom they work.

Of course the book is also about the people whom the Secret Service protects, ranging from those who treat the agents with kindness and respect (like Ronald Reagan, George and Barbara Bush, George and Laura Bush, Barack and Michelle Obama), to those who were hypocritical, rude, drunken, immoral or abusive jerks (like Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Hillary Clinton et al.—you’ll have to read the book to find out which adjectives fit which person.

The bottom line of the book is that the policies and incompetence of Secret Service management is putting lives at risk and there needs to be some immediate, major changes and reforms at the upper level of Secret Service management before tragedy strikes.

The book was fascinating. I couldn’t put it down.
