More on the shooting of police officers

The shooting of four police officers in Lakewood Washington is being described as a targeted execution. According to KOMO news radio, three of the officers were men. One was a woman.

Lakewood is a small town next to McChord Air Force Base near Tacoma Washington. The Lakewood police department is a small police department and these four officers were about 10 to 15 percent of the entire department.

It goes without saying that the cold-blooded murder of four armed police officers is a very, very serious event. Anyone who would gun down armed officers may not hesitate to kill unarmed civilians. There is a sense in which direct attacks against the police who protect us are, in a way, attacks against civilization itself.

UPDATE: Someone has been named as a person of interest. He may have been shot as one of the victims returned fire. See KOMO News.
