Only 54 billion dollars!

Democratic Senator Harry Reid admitted that the health care bill will actually cost two trillion dollars (yes, trillion, with a "t")! Furthermore, Reid rejected any effort on tort reform saying that it would only save 54 billion dollars (yes, billion, with a b). See Ed Morrissey for the story.

Apparently as long as it is your money, 54 billion dollars is not a lot of money to Mr. Reid and his Democrat friends!

Can these people possibly be any more out of touch? They are literally more dangerous to America's future than al Qaeda.

That's 54 billion over 10 years, which is still a lot of money. But you seem to be missing the point. That huge number is just a drop in the bucket of what your health care costs.

Consider how much money hospitals are losing every year due to un- and underinsured patients. 36 billion per year. Even if we assume that number will not go up (HA!) over the next 10 years that will still come to nearly 10 TIMES the amount saved if we waste our time on tort reform. Worry about insuring every person in America first and you might actually save health care.
