Justice David Souter to retire

Supreme Court Justice David Souter has announced that he will retire in June. Obama gets his first Supreme Court appointee and we will be stuck with his choice for a long, long time.

Bankruptcy for Crysler

We just spent a trillion dollars of our children's money to "stimulate" the economy and it worked so well the Chrysler just declared bankruptcy.

Shut own the country

I just heard a clip in which Vice President Joe Biden said, essentially, that because of Swine Flu he would advise his family to stay away from enclosed places like airplanes, subways, classrooms, etc.

So we have about 100 people who have this flu in America and Biden is advising that we pretty much shut down the country and drive the last nail in the coffin of our economy!

If you voted Democrat, you asked for it.

NPR censors Christianity

National Public Radio has made the decision to censor Christianity. Read the story on OneNewsNow. Perhaps there needs to be a movement now to cut off public funding for NPR.

Islam and the death penalty

At a conference in the United Arab Emirates hosted by International Islamic Fiqh Academy, a committee was formed to discuss "whether 'apostates' should face the death penalty."

Those opposed cite the Qur'an 2:256 which says "there is no compulsion in religion" (1,400 years of Islamic history to the contrary).

In favor was the Qur'an 4:80 "which urges Muslims to seize and kill those who turn away" as well as the Hadith which says that “Any [Muslim] person who has changed his religion, kill him.” There is also, of course, the fact that Muhammad himself ordered the execution of apostates.
"A prominent Saudi religious law professor, Muhammad al-Nujaimi, argued that scholars in the past did not differ substantively over punishing apostates. They only differed over how quickly the apostate should be executed – after three days, a week, or several months, he said."
The issue at stake was whether apostates should be punished by death. There was apparently no disagreement that they should be punished. For example, Iran's parliament voted for a provision that would punish male apostates with death but female apostates with life in prison (read the entire story at CNS News).

This aspect of Islam is fundamentally incompatible with foundational American values of freedom of speech and religion and America should do more to fight for the rights of Muslims to change their religion.

In my opinion, no Muslim who is not already a citizen of the U.S. should be allowed to become a citizen unless they affirm in writing the right of all Muslims to change their religion. No Muslim should be allowed to enter or remain in the United States on work or education visas who will not affirm in writing the right of all Muslims to change their religion.

Gun registration in Montana

Ya gotta love those Montanans. Years ago when the federal government ordered states to reduce their speed limits to 55 mph or lose their federal highway funds, Montana responded by reducing their speed limits to 55, but rebelled by charging only $5 for a speeding ticket that would never go on your record or insurance. I know, I got one.

Now, “In a bill passed by the Legislature earlier this month, the state is asserting that guns manufactured in Montana and sold in Montana to people who intend to keep their weapons in Montana are exempt from federal gun registration, background check and dealer-licensing rules because no state lines are crossed. That notion is all but certain to be tested in court.”

A bloodless coup

Is America currently undergoing a bloodless coup? Sandy Rios thinks so. What do you think? Does she have a point or is she out to lunch?

True intentions of gay activists

If you read only on article today, I would recommend the excellent article entitled, "True Intentions of Gay Activists Now Revealed" by Gwen Richardon in BlackNews.Com.

Although her statement about the Bible not containing the word homosexual is in error--see 1 Corinthians 6:9 NIV; cf. 1 Timothy 1:10 (ESV, NLT NAS; though some translations render the word as "sodomites" (NRSV, NKJV)--the rest of the article hits the nail on the head!

A White House cover-up?

CBS is reporting that the FAA was fully aware that that the low flying 747 my cause panic in New York City, "But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out."

Previously the FAA had said the flyover occurred because the White House wanted to update its files.

What does this mean? Did someone in the White House (Barack Obama) order this flight and then threaten federal sanctions to keep the fiasco from being traced back to the source?

Sending a low-flying 747 over New York City is just irresponsible, insensitive and stupid, but threatening federal sanctions to cover it up sounds pretty criminal to me.

Where are Woodward and Bernstein when you need them?

Taxing the miles you drive

It is apparently not enough to tax the vehicle you buy, or the license you must renew every year, or the gas you put in your vehicle. Democratic Congressman James Oberstar now wants to tax you by the number of miles you drive!

People are losing their jobs and homes by the thousands and Oberstar wants to tax the number of miles they drive to get to work! Democrats just don't get it!

Enough is enough! But hey, if you voted Democrat, you asked for it.

Questions about torture

Low flying jet and NYC evacuations

According to the Wall Street Journal, "A jumbo jetliner that serves as Air Force One, escorted by a military jet, flew over Lower Manhattan Monday morning, frightening office workers and causing evacuations in what turned out to be a publicity operation approved by a unit of the U.S. Air Force."

According to the FAA, the planes were part of a "photo-op."

Isn't this a bit like having a group of unannounced masked, armed intruders waking around Columbine High School as a PR stunt for the local SWAT team?

UPDATE: According to the AP, "An administration official says a presidential Boeing 747 and a fighter jet flew low near ground zero in New York City Monday because the White House Military Office wanted to update its file photo of the president's plane near the Statue of Liberty."

If the White House doesn't have any more common sense than this, we are in even more trouble than I thought!

Obama and "Lie to Me"

Fox is declining to air Barack Obama's third prime time news conference. Instead they will show their regularly scheduled program, "Lie to me."

I know. It sounds like a joke, but its really true.

Miss America, braver than pastors

Doug Giles is a seminary-trained pastor, writer and columnist. He certainly doesn't sound like your stereotypical pastor :-) but his short article "Miss California is braver than some pastors" makes an excellent point! Unless more pastors heed his challenge, America is lost.

Stimulus in perspective

This picture pretty much puts President Obama's spending cuts in perspective. It is nothing but a big PR move designed to deceive the public.

Hate crimes legislation

The house judiciary committee today approved hate crimes legislation.

Saving fuel on Earth Day

"Obama's Earth Day flights burned more than 9,000 gallons of fuel" Mark Knoller points out:
"President Obama could have saved at least 9,116 gallons of fuel by giving his speech at the White House – but no wind turbines are manufactured here."

Breaking: al-Qaeda leader captured

Breaking news: This morning "Iraqis have claimed to capture Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, the man who reportedly leads al-Qaeda in Iraq."

My sources tell me that the Obama administration is going to get tough with him. His prison cell will only have an off-brand recliner, will not have a sleep number mattress, and his large screen TV will not have HD!

Not that's torture!

Obama's witch hunts

Hugh Hewitt recently asked Mitt Romney what he thought about the potential prosecution of Bush administration officials for the CIA interrogation techniques. Romney replied,
Well, it’s a bad decision on a number of fronts. First of all, it violates his most consistent campaign pledge that he was going to work on a bipartisan basis in Washington. There’s nothing that could be more hostile than saying we’re going to go after the prior administration and see if we can make them all get lawyers and pay millions of dollars in legal fees, and drag them in for hearings, and see if we can really demonize the prior administration. That’s the lowest form of partisanship, and it’s something which I think the American people will recognize was very different than what they heard during the campaign. And secondly, these matters that are related to protecting our country from terrorism, you know, I think the Democrats are making a mistake by calling this into question. President Bush informed members of Congress as to the policies that were being pursued. There was a national emergency, America was kept safe during the Bush years. I think Barack Obama’s leading with his chin on this, because you know what? He’s got to keep this country safe.
One of the things that makes America great is that, unlike the thugs who have ruled some third world countries, we always have a peaceful change of power in which current administrations never seek to punish the previous administrations for their political differences.

Although the change in power was peaceful, Barack Obama appears ready to go back on his promise (again) and to change all this to appease left-wing supporters. Obama's witch hunt and vendetta against the Bush administration will not only cost the tax payers millions, it will make you less safe (see the link on Hugh Hewitt's post).

Mr. Obama you need to be aware that what goes around, comes around. If you open the door to these witch hunts you better pray that the next administration is not Republican or your administration may be facing the same witch hunts you now propose. I would hope Republican politicians are better than that but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

Earth day discrimination

I refuse to celebrate Earth day!

Because it is so "geocentric," Earth Day discriminates against other worthy planets like Venus or Mars or much bigger planets like Saturn and Jupiter. And the fact that we would focus solely on our Earth while ignoring the sun may even be solorphobic!

We could argue that Earth Day is different because there are no people in our solar system, but this line of thinking betrays a malignant anthrocentric ideology and is simply no excuse for discrimination against other planets.

It won't do to celebrate a Milky Way Day, because that discriminates against other galaxies (and other tasty candy bars).

I suppose we could celebrate "Universe Day," unless, of course, there are other parallel universes.

Since we can't know for sure whether other parallel universes exist we should probably play it safe and make sure we don't discriminate by just dropping the whole Earth Day idea.

Pirates: The rest of the story

Would you like to know what really happened with the pirates off Somalia and how our naive and politically correct Commander in Chief seemed more concerned about the lives of the pirate than the life of the captain? The fascinating, sometimes infuriating, story is in the Free Republic.

Playing politics with your safety

The Left has long butressed their arguments against torture by arguing, in their ignorance, that such techniques do not work anyway. Recliner Commentaries has commented on how the waterboarding of Khalid Sheik Mohammad saved the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people in the tallest tower west of Chicago.

Now, the former head of the CIA (who probably is in a position to know more than any of the Leftists) said that it is simply not true that enhanced interrogation techniques don't work. He said that the advanced interrogation techniques really did work and that they produced a lot of information that really saved American lives.

Dick Cheney is charging that the Obama administration only declassified documents they could use to their political advantage. Cheney says if we're going to debate the issue lets tell the whole story. He is asking that documents also be declassified which show that inhanced interrogation techniques really did produce a lot of intelligence that actually saved American lives.

When asked if she would support the release of such documents, Hillary Clinton danced around the issue like she was on dancing with the stars!

Democrats are playing politics with your safety!

Tolerance in the age of Obama

Michelle Malkin has a short, but outstanding article in OneNewsNow exposing the true face of left wing "tolerance" in the age of Obama.

Happy Earth Day!

All over America public schools are undoubtedly celebrating Earth Day today. We no longer have the freedom of religion to celebrate Easter or Christmas in our public schools--but like good pagans we can celebrate Earth Day!

The sound you hear is our founding fathers rolling over in their graves.

Waterboarding saved lives

On Fox and Friends this morning Brian revealed that it was the building formerly known as "The Library Tower" which was the target of Al Qaeda's next planned attack.

This skyscraper is the tallest building west of Chicago and it was the waterboarding of the 911 mastermind that saved all the people in this building.

And now some Democrats want to prosecute the CIA officers and Bush administration officials responsible for saving all those lives.

Don't get me wrong. I am strongly opposed to the use of techniques like waterboarding as "fishing" expeditions just to see what some terrorist suspect may or may not know. But when it comes to a known terrorist leader, who we know to have information on plans to cause massive destruction of U.S. lives--waterboarding should be a possible option available to save those lives.

But Democrats would rather ensure the comfort of terrorist murderers than save thousands of innocent lives, like those in The Library Tower.

Fighting for freedom in MA

Massachusetts has sometimes been called the birthplace of freedom. Now, over 200 years later, another fight for freedom is going on.

In Massachusetts, Christians are fighting for religious freedom exemptions to recent legislation promoting gay "rights." The gay rights debate is not really about whether Adam should be able to marry Steve. Its really about religious freedom.

Gay rights advocates in Massachusetts are not open to compromise or tolerance. They will settle for nothing less than forcing people of faith to compromise their religious convictions. When Christians are forced to compromise their religious convictions or face fines or job loss, we no longer have religious freedom in America.

Bigotry in the Miss USA pagent

The moral of this story is if you disagree with this homosexual, you don't get the crown. Some tolerance! Please watch the video. Let's be clear. The guy's comments about "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus" (she didn't say anything about Jesus!) makes it clear that he is an anti-Christian bigot!

A congressman with terrorist ties?

Pamela Geller comments, "So while the Department of Homeland Security is targeting vets, patriots, gun owners, Evangelicals and the other great Americans, we have elected officials - a Congressman - meeting with Islamic extremists." Read Atlas Shrugs for the story and possible suspects.

The New Terrorists

Check out Americas new most wanted list of right wing extremists and sign the petition.

Waterboarding prevented terrorist attack

According to a report, confirmed in part by the previously classified documents released by Barack Obama, the waterboarding of 911 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammad, prevented a similar 911 "man-made-disaster" in Los Angeles.

I wish we knew the actual buidling(s) which had been planed for destruction. It would be interesting to know whether the people working in those buildings would now approve of the CIA decision to waterboard knowing that they are still alive today in all likelyhood only because the CIA used waterboarding.

UPDATE: The Obama administration--and President Obama himself--reversed themselves today leaving the door open to prosecuting those involved in waterboarding, including not only CIA officers who did it, but also the lawyers who thought it was legal.

To kill an American

There is an article entitled, "To Kill an American" making the rounds on the internet. I was supposedly written by an Australian dentist. Actually, it was written by "Peter Ferrara, an associate professor of law at the George Mason University School of Law. You can find the original article--which is well worth reading--at NRO (Hat tip, John W).

Health, wealth and prosperity

For all the "Christians" out there who are followers of various health, wealth and prosperity preachers, this cartoon says it all! (hat tip: Kevin I).

Socialism explained

The following was passed on to me in an e-mail this morning. If I knew who wrote it I would give credit. I don't know if it is true, but it certainly makes the point (hat tip: Don B.)
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.

The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

Separation trumps freedom

Last week Recliner Commentaries reported on two students who had been expelled for publicly praying for their professor who was ill. This morning the students will be on Fox and Friends.

The first amendment of the Constitution specifically guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of religion. How did we come to a place where a phrase about "separation of church and state" in a private letter (the meaning of which is hotly debated) has come to trump the specific guarantees of freedom in our Constitution? Americans should really be outraged at this!

Violence against aid workers

A "tweet" I received yesterday said, "2008 most deadly on record for aid workers." These are not attacks on enemy combatants, or enemy armies. They are not even attacks on innocent civilians. They are attacks against innocent people who are just trying to help other innocent people in need of food or medical care.

There is something truly sick about people who are so evil they will attack humanitarian aid workers. "Sudan (Darfur), Afghanistan and Somalia – accounted for more than 60% of violent incidents and aid worker victims" (Hat tip: Kevin I)

Capitalist prosperity

In Economic Facts and Fallacies, economist Thomas Sowell writes,
...by 2001 most people defined as poor had possessions once considered part of a middle class lifestyle. Three-quarters of them had air conditioning, which only a third of all Americans had in 1971. Ninety-seven percent had color television, which less than half of all American had in 1971. Seventy-three percent owned a microwave, which less than one percent of Americans owned in 1971, and 98 percent of "the poor" had either a videocasette recorder or a DVD player, which no on had in 1971. In addition, 72 percent of "the poor" owned a car or truck. Yet the rhetoric of the "haves" and the "have nots" continues, even in a society where it might be more accurate to refer to the "haves" and the "have lots" (129)
Yet for some reason (Leftist media and college professors?) more and more Americans seem convinced that capitalism has failed (see here on the economic crisis) and, therefore, apparently want to scrap our country's prosperity for European socialism.

Every American--especially everyone in government--should be required to read Basic Economics and Economic Facts and Fallacies by Thomas Sowell. Very eye-opening!

The cause of the economic crisis

Every American in the country needs to see (or be reminded of) this news clip! You have to give the Democrats credit. 1) They caused this economic crisis. 2) They blocked Republican efforts to prevent it. 3) They lied through their teeth and convinced the American public to vote them into the White House and 4) They are now spending over a trillion of our children and grandchildren's tax dollars to fund their own pet projects in an attempt to consolidate that power. A truly amazing accomplishment! (Hat tip: Don B.)

Women raped in the military

A new book interviews female soldiers who have been sexually assaulted in the military--by our own soldiers! According to NewsMax:
"The Lonely Soldier: The Private War of Women Serving in Iraq," a book based on 40 in-depth interviews, recounts the stories of female veterans who served in combat zones and tells of rape, sexual assault and harassment by male counterparts.

There were 2,908 reports overall of sexual assault by members of the military. Such assaults include rape, indecent assault and attempted rape, the report said.

Of the 40 women Benedict interviewed who served between 2003 and 2006, 10 said they had been raped, five said they were sexually assaulted including attempted rape, and 13 reported sexual harassment.

I view this as far more concerning than Abu Ghraib or Gitmo! If ever there needed to be a Congressional investigation, this is it!

A moderate Muslim voice of reason

From a recent MEMRI e-mail (Special Dispatch 2316, April 16, 2009):
Urdu – Pashtu Media Project Indian Muslim Writer: 'The Inability to Present
Islam as a Peaceful Religion is a Collective Failure of Global Muslim Communities…
Let Us Become Louder Than the Radical [Islamist] Voices That Claim to Represent
Us'

"Sincere moral outrage needs to be expressed at Taliban atrocities in Afghanistan
and Pakistan, political kidnappings and assassinations, militancy in Kashmir,
Shi'ite-Sunni killings in Iraq and Pakistan, fatwas that condone suicide bombings
in the Israel-Palestine conflict, and other such atrocities that [a]ffect innocent
lives. Muslims require an international consensus in combating extremism but
our credibility is lost when we demonstrate selective outrage – as in the aftermath
of the Danish cartoons."
Amen! The world needs to hear more--many, many more--moderate Muslim voices of reason like this one. They need to drown out the radicals so us non-Muslims can know that the radicals really do not represent modern Islam as a whole.

The Left tries to re-assure us of that; but when the silence of what is supposed to be the overwhelming majority of "moderate Muslims" is so deafening, it is really hard to be sure that the moderates are really not just passive puppets of the radicals. In that case, it really wouldn't matter how many moderates there are. All that matters is that the radicals would take over.

Republic of Texas?

After a TEA party today Texas Governor Rick Perry said,
"When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that. My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention."
Barack Obama won't fight to keep Iran or North Korea from getting nuclear weapons. Would he fight to keep Texas in the Union?

DHS report on right wing extremism

Earlier, Recliner Commentaries linked to an article by Michele Malkin on a Department of Homeland Security report that warns against "right wing extremism" but makes it sound like right wing extremism is anything to the right of John McCain.

That report is so bad, so inflammatory and so threatening to the freedom of U.S. citizens, that even a "solidly liberal" Democratic Congressman, Bennie Thompson (D-MS), is demanding that the Homeland Security secretary explain "how this report ever got out of her office."

Ed Morrissey comments,
Thompson didn’t stop there. He wants an explanation of what “activities” Napolitano has planned with law enforcement officials to monitor legitimate public political activity, as promised at the end of the DHS report. He called himself “particularly struck” by this statement. And well he might; it promises to have government treat political discourse as a subversive activity.

HIV cases double in Minnesota

The number of HIV cases in Minnesota has doubled since 2001. Do you suppose that could have anything to do with the fact that homosexuality is actually promoted in schools and media as a positive alternative lifestyle and anyone who dares to tell the truth is labeled as a homophobe and hate monger?

Expelled for prayer

At the college of Alameda two students publicly prayed for their sick teacher. Someone reported them and they were expelled from the school. Yet all over America, Leftists violently shut down conservative speakers at colleges. The college's solution? They apparently don't expel the trouble-makers. They charge the conservative groups extra for security!

Liberty Sun attacked

Another American ship was attacked off the coast of Somalia today. Fortunately, this ship was armed and fought back.

Gingrich for President

OK, we've had enough time off from presidential campaigns :-) There is an AP headline which reads, "Gingrich eyes possible White House run in 2012."

Our country disparately needs President Gingrich and Vice President Palin or Jindal.

Gingrich for President!!!

Right wing extremism

The Obama administration is apparently very concerned with right wing extremism. The Department of Homeland Security has produced an assessment of right wing extremism. Judging from quotations from the report, it sounds like a right wing extremist is anyone to the right of John McCain. See Michelle Malkin's report.

The irony is that virtually all the violence comes from the Left, which is why colleges are charging more for security when conservative speakers come to campus.

The Resurrection of the Son of God

I just finished reading The Resurrection of the Son of God by N.T. Wright. It is, to my knowledge, the most significant treatment of the resurrection of Jesus ever written.

Part I provides an extensive discussion of theories of the afterlife by ancient authors Jewish and non-Jewish authors. Part II is an indepth treatment of resurrection in Paul's letters. Part III provides analysis of resurrection in early Christianity both in and outside of the New Testament, i.e. not only New Testament letters but also in the apostolic fathers, the later apologists, New Testament apocrypha and even the so-called "lost gospels." Part IV provides a more detailed analysis of the resurrection narratives in the four canonical Gospels. Part V is a capstone discussion on the resurrection and history, and on Jesus as the Son of God.

The book is 817 pages long including bibliographies and indexes.

It is absolutly outstanding; an instsant classic!

They shot his dog!

This is a story some thugs who shot the dog of a Navy Seal. The dog was a four year old yellow lab. They didn't get what they deserved! (Hat tip: Professor ed.)

Pirates and the rescue of the captain

After thoroughly re-considering the issue, I have to conclude that administration was wrong to send the Navy Seals in to kill the pirates. We should have negotiated with them to find out in what ways America has wronged them which forced them to take the actions they did.

Then we could have, perhaps, provided significant cash intensives to make up for our intolerance and lack of cultural appreciation for the pirate way of life. After all, who are we to judge?

In fact, isn't the word "pirate" itself rather judgmental? Perhaps we should call them "sea-traders."

And the sea-traders we have captured, should, of course, be brought to America--not Gitmo!--and be provided the best legal defense that money can buy--at taxpayers expense, of course.

And the families of those who have been shot, should be allowed--also at American taxpayer expense--to sue the Navy, the President and Congress for allowing this cultural difference to escalate and get out of hand resulting in the loss of three brave sea-traders' lives.

Coming back to reality and in all seriousness: Kudos to the brave Navy Seals who rescued the captan!

I think we now need to consider bombing the homes of the thugs who finance these pirate operations. We should then make it widely known that we will blow any boat out of the water, which gets within a thousand yards of a merchant ship.

Fascism on campus

This morning Fox and Friends reported that some colleges are now charging conservative clubs extra money (sometimes up to 3 times as much) for security when the clubs invite conservative speakers on campus. This is because it is so common for those on the Left to disrupt these events, sometimes violently.

The fact that colleges see the need to spend much more for security when conservatives come to campus demonstrates that there really is a serious threat to free speech by those on the Left.

What are these Leftists afraid of? Are they afraid that if conservative speakers actually get a fair hearing, students will realize how ideologically bankrupt the Left really is?

Maybe its time for college administrators who are genuinely liberal to start standing up for the free speech they pretend to advocate.

Maybe its time for some of these gutless college administrators to start expelling or prosecuting those on the Left who threaten free speech.

Breaking: Fire & explosions at Alton Bay

According to the Associated Press, 52 buildings are in fire at the Alton Bay Christian Conference Center in New Hampshire! Several explosions have been reported and up to 20 area fire departments have responded.

UPDATE: See WMUR 9 New Hampshire, WMUR slideshow

Happy Easter!

St. Paul on the resurrection of Jesus:
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me that Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the twelve apostles. After that, he was seen by more than five hundred of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died by now. Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. Last of all, I saw him, too…

But tell me this: Since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead? For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ was not raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your trust in God is useless. And we apostles would
all be lying about God, for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave,
but that can't be true if there is no resurrection of the dead. If there is no
resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. And if Christ has not
been raised, then your faith is useless, and you are still under condemnation
for your sins. In that case, all who have died believing in Christ have
perished! And if we have hope in Christ only for this life, we are the most
miserable people in the world.

But the fact is that Christ has been raised from the dead (NLT, St. Paul writing to the Corinthians in AD 56).

Free world bans free speech

If you read only one article today, please read, "The Free World Bars Free Speech" in the Washington Post by George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley. This is why conservatives are so afraid of the hate crimes laws pushed by Congress and the Obama administration.

The tomb of Jesus regurgitated

As I write this, the National Geographic Channel is re-showing "In Search of Jesus' Tomb." The fact that their "documentary" has been thoroughly discredited (e.g. see Witherington, Bock, Ingolfsland) is apparently not a good enough reason to stop deceiving people.

Have you ever noticed how many anti-Jesus documentaries come out around Christmas and Easter? Have you ever noticed that Hollywood has never produced a single documentary debunking Islam? Can you imagine the reaction if Hollywood produced such a documentary and aired it during Ramadan?

In America, it is acceptable to be an anti-Christian bigot.

Breaking: Another hijacking

Fox is reporting that pirates have just hijacked another ship. This one is a "U.S. owned, Italian flagged" ship sailing in the Gulf of Aden (just north of Somalia). The fact that they even dare to hijack another U.S. ship demonstrates a profound failure in U.S. policy.

Back during the Carter administration, Iran took over our embassy and held our citizens hostage for over a year while Jimmy Carter negotiated. As soon as Reagan was elected president, Iran let the hostages go. They knew Reagan wouldn't put up with it.

It is beginning to look like the Obama administration is just like the Carter administration. We're just going to "negotiate" while pirates capture our ships, while Iran develops nuclear weapons, and while North Korea develops long range missiles.

Good Friday

Today is “Good Friday,” a rather strange name for the celebration of the crucifixion of Jesus. The crucifixion of Jesus is one of the most well attested historical facts in all of ancient history.

It is found not only in first century AD New Testament sources like Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Paul’s letters, Hebrews, and First Peter, but also in other ancient Christian sources not found in the Bible, like Ignatius, Polycarp, Epistle of Barnabas, Justin Martyr, Hegesippus, Mileto of Sardis, Tertullian, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Origin, and the Diatessaron. In fact, Jesus’ crucifixion is even attested by early non-Christian (even anti-Christian) sources like Josephus and Lucian, and in a round-about way by Tacitus.

The crucifixion of Jesus is an accepted fact in the scholarly world. In fact, almost the only ones who reject this fact are Muslims. According to the Qur'an, Jesus only appearned to be crucified. The Qur’an refers to Jews boasting about killing Christ:
“That they said (in boast), ‘We killed Christ Jesus The son of Mary, The Apostle
of God’’—But they killed him not, Nor crucified him, But so it was made to
appear to them (Sura 4:157).
The Qur’an contains the words of Muhammad as remembered by his earliest followers. The sources I cited above which affirm the crucifixion of Jesus were written from 400 to almost 600 years before the time of Muhammad.

So why does Muhammad deny something as historically solid as the crucifixion of Jesus?

Muhammad was hoodwinked by a group of people we often call "Gnostics", who believed that Jesus was divine but not truly human. As a result, they didn’t believe Jesus could really die. So about 200 to 300 years after Jesus’ death, they argued that Jesus was not really crucified and that he died only in appearance. For example, one of the Gnostic writings, says,
“I did not succumb to them as they had planned. But I was not afflicted at all. Those who were there punished me. And I did not die in reality but in appearance…They struck me with the reed; it was another, Simon, who bore the cross on his shoulder. It was another upon whom they placed the crown of thorns. But I was rejoicing in the height over all the wealth of the archons…and I was laughing at their ignorance…for I was altering my shapes…” (Second treatise of the Great Seth 55-56).
A similar document says, “The Savior said to me, ‘He whom you saw on the tree, glad and laughing, this is the living Jesus. But this one into whose hand and feet they drive the nails in his fleshly part, which is the substitute…” (Apocalypse of Peter 81)

So supposedly, while “the living Jesus” was being crucified—one of the most brutal tortures imaginable—he was laughing because the nails had been driven into the hands of a substitute?! This is the pool of ideas from which Muhammad got his idea that Jesus was never crucified.

While Muhammad accepted the Gnostic idea that Jesus was not crucified, he rejected their idea that Jesus was a divine being. That is interesting because their reason for thinking Jesus was not crucified in the first place was because, in their view, Jesus was divine, but not not really human!

So if you think it is historically plausible that Jesus was not human at all, and that he was some kind of shape-shifter ("I was altering my shapes"), and was laughing on the cross because it was not really him on the cross but a substitute, then maybe Muhammad’s view of Jesus not being crucified might make sense to you.

But if, like virtually all scholars, you dismiss such nonsense as unhistorical, then you should also recognize that Muhammad was not a prophet of God at all, but was merely an ordinary man who was duped into believing this, and the numerous other historical errors he relates in the Qur’an.

Moderate pirate community

Read Obama reaches out to moderate pirate community (via Hugh Hewitt's blog).

Pirates and Muhammad

This morning, I was watching a report on the ship with Americans aboard which was hijacked by Muslim pirates off the coast of Somalia. This is just the latest of a many ships that have been hijacked by these pirates.

It occurred to me that what these pirates are doing is really no different than what Muhammad once did. After Muhammad moved to Medina, he greatly increased his wealth by hijacking and raiding merchant caravans going back and forth from Mecca.

White house closely monitoring...

According to White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, "The White House is closely monitoring the apparent hijacking of the US-flagged ship in the Indian Ocean and assessing a course of action to resolve this situation".

I certainly hope that is diplomatic-speak for "the Navy seals are on their way."

Darfur and the religion of peace

In Human Events this morning, Robert Spencer writes:
Genocide in Darfur? Relax! At its summit last week in Qatar, the Arab League decisively rejected the International Criminal Court’s indictment of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. “We emphasis our solidarity with Sudan and our dismissal and rejection of the decision handed down by the International Criminal Court,” read the Arab League communiqué.

It is worth exploring with what exactly the Arab League is expressing solidarity. Al-Bashir has overseen the genocidal campaign of the government-backed Janjaweed militias in the Darfur region of western Sudan, in which 400,000 people have been killed and over 2,500,000 left homeless. In 2004, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan said the situation in Darfur was “world’s greatest humanitarian crisis.”
We might also mention the thousands of Christians who have been kidnapped, enslaved and raped by Muslims in Darfur! And "the religion of peace" supports it! And President Obama and many of our politicians support "the religion of peace."

Please read the entire article at Human Events.

Immature and insecure

I'm 54 years old and have seen numerous administrations come and go, but I've never seen an administration that spent so much time criticizing their predecessors as the Obama administration. Not even close. It strikes me as immature, insecure, and completely unprofessional.

Neo-Nazi's, white supremacists, Jihadists, etc.

What do Neo-Nazi's, white supremacists, Jihadists--and more than just a few on the Left--have in common? See Jihad Watch.

Breaking: Another earthquake

Another earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale--an aftershock--has just hit central Italy. They need our prayers.

The wisdom in killing

Please read, "Harvard Muslim chaplain sees the wisdom in my killing." It is about the murder of Muslims who turn away from Islam. The chaplain is presumably a "moderate Muslim."

Although this Harvard chaplain is a U.S. citizen, I would suggest that any non-citizen who cannot strongly affirm the right of people to change their religion, should not even be allowed to enter America on a student or work visa!

What kind of religion is it that prescribes the death penalty for those who leave? Unfortunately, Islam is often the oppressor of Muslims! I strongly suspect that the threat of coercion, retaliation or even death is the only reason Muslims don't leave their religion in droves!

Losing our freedom under Obama

There are civil rights laws that "declare that American tax dollars will not fund programs in which helathcare professionals are fired, penalized or otherwise subjected to discrimination because of their ethical stance related to abortion and other morally controversial issues."

The Obama administration is moving to over turn this protection. See Freedom2Care.

Contrary to what some might have you believe, Freedom of Religion is not just about freedom to worship privately. It is about not being forced by the government to violate ones' deepest religious convictions. Our country began when settlers fled from a government which tried to force people to violate their religious convictions. They were looking for freedom. The Obama administration is trying to take that freedom away!

When medical professionals are forced to violate their religious convictions on controversial ethical issues like abortion, or face the loss of their careers, we no longer have Freedom of Religion in America.

Department of Education cover-up

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, a Department of Education study on school vouchers concluded that:
This year’s report shows statistically significant academic gains for the entire voucher-receiving population. Children attending private schools with the aid of the scholarships are reading nearly a half-grade ahead of their peers who did not receive vouchers. Voucher recipients are doing no better in math but they’re doing no worse. Which means that no voucher participant is in worse academic shape than before, and many students are much better off.
Michelle Malkin comments:
It would have been helpful to know about a Department of Education study on D.C.’s school choice initiative before the Democrats — beholden to teachers unions allergic to competition — voted to starve the innovative program benefiting poor, minority children in the worst school district in the nation. See Michelle Malkin for the story
One way to save a lot of wasted government money would be to abolish the Department of Education!

Transnationalism; a line in the sand

Generally speaking, those who believe in "transnationalism" believe in the subordination of U.S. laws to international laws. The man Obama wants to appoint as the top lawyer to the State Department (Harold Koh) is a strong supporter of transnationalism. The Washinton Times has an excellent article on the danger this poses.

A line needs to be drawn in the sand here. Our elected officials are sworn to uphold the Constitution. Any attempt to subordinate the Constitution of the United States to international law or United Nations resolutions should be viewed as nothing less than an attempt at the subversive overthrow of the United States.

UPDATE: Right after I posted the above, I came across a petition against transnationalism. Please sign it!

Foreign aid to Italy

The earthquake in Italy has left 150 dead, 1,500 injured, and 50,000 homeless, and President Obama has offered $50,000 in support. By contrast, he gave $900,000,000 to the terrorists in Gaza! (See Atlas Shrugs).

Freedom of religion, Islamic style

Read about freedom of religion, Islamic style in this short but excellent BreakPoint article. I'd like to think it can't happen here but in a country where political correctness and Democrats rule, something like this would not surprise me--especially if President Obama was able to change the balance of the Supreme Court (hat tip: John W).

Our deep appreciation for Islam

In Turkey President Obama said,
"We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over so many centuries to shape the world for the better, including my own country,"
Really? Is President Obama talking about the Islamic faith:

that calls Jews "apes" (Surah II.65)

that says "soon shall we cast terror into the hearts of unbelievers (Surah III. 151)

that says "Marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four (Surah IV.3)

that says "As regards your children's inheritance: to the male, a portion equal to that of two females (Surah IV.11; cf also Surah IV.176)

that says "If any of your women are guilty of lewdness, take the evidence of our reliable witnesses from amongst you against them; and if they testify, confine them to houses until death do claim them (Surah IV.15)

that says, "As to those women on whose part you fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them first, next refuse to share their beds, and last beat them (lightly) (Surah IV.34)

that says, "Let those fight in the cause of God" (Surah IV.74)

that says, "Those who believe fight in the case of God" (Surah IV.76)

that says, "Then fight in God's cause" (Surah IV.84)

that says, "But if they turn renegades [i.e. reject Islamic faith] seize them and slay them wherever you find them" (Surah IV.89)

that says, "For the unbelievers are unto you open enemies" (Surah IV.101)

that says, "As to the thief, male of female, cut off his or her hands" (Surah V.38)

that says, "O you who believe! Take not the Jews and Christians for your friends and protectors" (Surah V.51)

that says, "I will instil terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: Smite them above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them" (Surah VIII.12)

that says, "Against them make read your strength to the utmost of your power, including seeds of war, to strike terror into the hearts of the eneimes of God and your enemies" (Surah VIII.60)

that says, "O Apostle! [Muhammad] Rouse the believers to fight!" (Surah VIII.65)

that says, "But when the fobidden months are past, then fight and slay the pagans whereever you find them, and seize them, beleaguer them and lie in wait fo them in every stratagem of war" (Surah IX 5)

that says, "Fight those who believe not in God" (Surah IX.29)

that says, "O you who believe! Fight the unbelievers who gird you about" (Surah IX.123)

that says,, "Those who annoy God and his apostle--God has cursed them in this world and in the hereaftere, and has prepared for them a humiliating punihsment" (Surah XXXIII.57)

that says, "They shall have a curse on them: Wherever they are found, they shall be seized and slain (without mercy)" (Surah XXXIII.61).

that says, "But those who strive against our signs, to frustrate thenm--for such will be a penalty,--a punishment most humiliating" (Surah XXXIV.5, 38)

that says, "If two parties among the believers fall into a quarrel, make peace between them: but if one of them transgresses beyond the bounds against the other, then all of you fight against that one that transgresses until it complies with the command of God" (Surah XLIX.9).

that says, "Those who resist God and his apostle will be among those most humiliated" (Surah LVIII.20)

That conquered Arabia, Egypt, Lybia, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Armenia, Iran, Iraq and Pakistan by the edge of the sword all within about 25 years of Muhammad's death! And within about 100 years had forcibly spread Islam--by the edge of the sword--all the way from India to Spain! And, were it not for "Christian" Europe, would have contolled the world! Islam is one of the most imperialistic ideologies ever to exist on earth. Is that the Islam Obama is praising?

Or is Mr. Obama talking about the Islam of which Muhammad ordered the execution of people for no other reason than turning away from his new religion?

Or the Islam of which Muhammad slaughtered 600 innocent Jewish men and sold their wives and children into slavery?

Or is Obama talking about the Islam that kidnapped and enslaved innocent American sailors in early American history?

Or is it the Islam that motivated the slaugher of our marines in Lebanon, the bombing of the Khobar Towers, the destruction of the Twin Towers, or the endless shelling of innocent Israelis and persecution of Christians (and every other religion!) all over the world!

I can just hear the Islamic apologists responding by pointing out all the violence in the Old Testament--and that was truly terrible if you were a Caananite, a Jebusite, or a Hittite, etc. But whereas Christians and Jews believe that God had given the Jews the "Promised Land," Jews never used that as an excuse to try to conquer the world or to slaugher unbelievers just for being unbelievers!

Islamic apologists will then point out all the atrocities committed in the name of Christianity. The key phrase is "in the name of Christianity." Search the New Testament! These atrocities were usually committed in direct opposition to the teachings of Jesus! So-called "Muslim radicals" who commit atrocities are simply following the example and teachings of Muhammad himself.

For Obama to express "our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over so many centuries to shape the world for the better" may show that he is ignorant of history. It may show that he is strongly sympathetic to Islam. Or it may show that he is just living in fantasy-land.

Anyway you look at it, it is dangerous for America!

Iran calls for the dismantling of nuclear weapons

According to Reuters:
Iran criticized on Monday U.S. President Barack Obama for saying Tehran posed a threat with its nuclear program and urged Washington and other countries possessing atom weapons to dismantle their arsenals.
Obama's desire to dismantle America's nuclear weapons would be a dream come true for Iran.

Eliminating nuclear weapons

President Obama recently
pointed to history to say that America must lead. “As a nuclear power – as the only nuclear power to have used a nuclear weapon – the United States has a moral responsibility to act,” he said.

Obama proposed doing so by reducing America’s arsenal, if not altogether eliminating it (Politico).
I'm sure when the U.S. eliminates all our nuclear weapons, Russia, China, Pakistan, North Korea--and soon, Iran--will follow our lead and destroy theirs too.

Yeah, right.

This is lunacy; the kind of dangerous naivete that characterizes the Left! It is absolutely impossible to to know for certain that all countries have eliminated their nuclear weapons. When the United States eliminates ours, we will be a the mercy of whoever did not eliminate theirs.

Obama's dreamland guarantees slavery for America.

Cybersecurity Act of 2009

Remember when the Left got hysterical about the Patriot Act? Where are they now with the proposed Cybersecurity Act of 2009 which would all the President to shut down the internet and to "have access to all relevant data concerning such networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule or policy restricting such access." See Atlas Shrugs.

Without regard to the Constitution as well?

Refusal to accept TARP money

No, its not the banks that have refused to accept TARP money. They apparently weren't given the option to refuse. It is the government which refuses to accept repayment of TARP money! In a Wall Street Journal article, Stuart Varney writes,

I must be naive. I really thought the administration would welcome the return of bank bailout money. Some $340 million in TARP cash flowed back this week from four small banks in Louisiana, New York, Indiana and California. This isn't much when we routinely talk in trillions, but clearly that money has not been wasted or otherwise sunk down Wall Street's black hole. So why no cheering as the cash comes back?

My answer: The government wants to control the banks, just as it now controls GM and Chrysler, and will surely control the health industry in the not-too-distant future. Keeping them TARP-stuffed is the key to control. And for this intensely political president, mere influence is not enough. The White House wants to tell 'em what to do. Control. Direct. Command.

I feel like the America I've grown up in is in the process of being overthrown.

North Korea launches rocket

North Korea has launched their long range missile, no doubt a preliminary test for a missile that could carry nuclear weapons to the western United States.

And the Obama administration did absolutely nothing.

For those of you in Anchorage, Seattle, and Portland.......sleep well.

UPDATE: Hold everything. Word is that President Obama has condemned the launch. I bet those North Koreans are sorry now!

Repeal of the fourth amendment?

If the things President Obama has done or proposed have not scared you yet, how about the virtual repeal of the fourth amendment?

If President Bush had proposed this, the Left would have gone absolutely, hysterically, ballistic; but because it comes from their Anointed One, I doubt we'll even hear a wimper.

National Socialists and the Obama administration

Most people, I'm sure, think that any comparison between our current Democratic administration and the National Socialists under Adolf Hitler are way over the top, but when a former Hitler youth who lived through Hitler's rise to power becomes concerned, we should at least read what he has to say.

Taliban claims responsiblity for Binghamton massacre

A Pakistani Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud, has claimed responsibility for the massacre of 13 people in Binghamton, NY. Robert Spencer comments, "Fanciful, sure--but imagine being proud of something like this, and wanting to be identified with it."

Radical Muslims like this are practically satanic!

The sex life of Muhammad

This is Father Zakaria Botros' fifth installment on the sex life of Muhammad.

Father Botros appeals to Muslims:
Listen you Muslims: don't hate me for revealing all this to you; don't lie in wait to kill me. I am merely revealing what your books contain. And, as always, we humbly await the great sheikhs and ulema to address these issues and show us where we went wrong."

"Tolerance" at Eastern Michigan Univesity

Eastern Michigan University has "dismissed a student from the school’s counseling program for not affirming homosexual behavior as morally acceptable. The school dismissed Julea Ward from the program because she would not agree prior to a counseling session to affirm a client’s homosexual behavior and would not retract her stance in subsequent disciplinary proceedings."

What happened to freedom of speech? But forget freedom of speech--they are not just penalizing Ms. Ward for her speech. They are penalizing her for her beliefs!

Just another example of the Left's view of "tolerance."

The banks and government extortion

This morning on Fox and Friends, Judge Andrew Napolitano reported that he received word that the government used what amounts to extortion to force banks to take government money (and control) even when the banks did not need or want any part of it.

If true, this is very disturbing. We are watching the new socialists in our government strip away our freedom right before our eyes. It makes me wonder how some Germans felt as they watched the National Socialist party (Nazi's) strip away their freedoms.

Judge Napolitano's charge really needs to be investigated by our Democratic Congress, but I guess that's a bit like asking the mafia to investigate gambling!

Six year-old boy raped

According to FoxNews:

Corey Deen Saunders pleaded guilty in February to the January 2008 rape of the boy at the New Bedford Public Library.

Prosecutors said Saunders lured the boy into a reading room at the library while the victim's mother worked on a computer only a short distance away. At the time of the attack, Saunders was a convicted sex offender who was on probation after serving four years in prison for the attempted rape of a 7-year-old boy.

A man tries to rape a seven year old boy and he only gets four years and then probation?!!! And now he has destroyed another little boy's life! I wish the judge and/or legislators who made this tragedy possible could be thrown in prison with this sick monster!

Obama bows to Saudi King

In a gesture symbolizing the acceptance a monarch's superiority and authority, President Obama just bowed before the king of Saudi Arabia!!! See Jihad Watch.

I certainly hope this is just one more incredibly stupid mistake, and not a symbol of underlying realities in the Obama administration (as far as I know, he didn't bow to the Queen of England)!

U.N. Human Rights Council and Obama

According to Fox Politics:

The U.N. Human Rights Council has called for restrictions on free speech and ignored blatant human rights abuses in a host of countries. It has passed five separate resolutions condemning Israel, more than all of the 191 U.N. member states combined.

It counts among its members consistent human rights violators as China, Cuba, Egypt, Libya and Saudi Arabia.

And now the United States wants to become one of the organization's 47 members.

President Obama thinks he can reform the Human Rights Council from within but the U.S. will simply be outvoted. What our membership will do is add legitimacy to repressive, totalitarian regimes and their efforts to suppress freedom.

President Obama is just not up to the job!

Open government? More broken promises?

According to the Washington Times,
What's more, the president banned most reporters from nearly every event he held on a day heavy with bilateral talks with foreign leaders, and even held U.S. cameras at bay for his visit to Buckingham Palace to meet the queen.
What happened to the open government candidate Obama promised? More broken promises?

DWI and life in prison

Ed Morrissey asks how many DWI's a person should get before that put him in prison and throw away the key. What do you think? Read his short post and take his survey.

Man-caused disasters

The Obama administration recently decided that it no longer wanted to use the word "terrorism" (apparently for fear of offending terrorists!). Our Homeland Security Secretary prefers the phrase "man-caused disasters."

Joseph Farah thinks this may be a bit too broad. He says, "The biggest "man-made disaster" plaguing America right now is the U.S. government."

Good point!

Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act

According to the Alliance Defense Fund, “Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., reintroduced the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act today, which would ban sex- and race-selective abortions."

Most Democrats couldn't possibly support this bill, of course, because to support the bill is to acknowledge that the imagined "right to privacy" has limitations and should be restricted.

On the other hand, for Democrats to oppose the bill is to say, in effect, "yes, we believe that if a woman's baby is of an unwanted race or sex, that woman has a right to abort him/her. This would be the ultimate in racism, sexism and discrimination!

I'm not sure how effective this legislation would be. After all, no one is going to go to the abortion clinic saying, "I want to abort my baby because it is a girl" or "I want to abort my baby because it is black/white/Asian/Hispanic."

Yet, it may be informative, not to mention entertaining, just to watch the Left's reaction.

Israel and a nuclear Iran

Israel's new Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu said recently that if the United States did not stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, Israel may be forced to attack Iran (Jerusalem Post).

I don't think there is a chance in the world that President Obama will use force to stop Iran--and I have almost no confidence that he will be able to stop Iran without force. I am, therefore, relieved to see that there is at least one nation in this world--Israel--that has some backbone and common sense.

A nuclear Iran would not hesitate for a moment to use its nukes to force the West to capitulate to its demands. Compounding the dangerous situation with Iran is the fact that America is now ruled by Leftists who seem to think that Iran's leaders think like we do!

Netanyahu cited Teheran's tactics during its protracted war with Iraq in the 1980s as evidence of irrational behavior on the part of Iran. "[They] wasted over a million lives without batting an eyelash,"
