Silencing the church

Homosexual activists lose their court battle to censor free speech in a Montana church. See OneNewsNow.

School vouchers good for public schools

"16 of 17 empirical studies show that vouchers actually improve public schools, and no study has ever found that vouchers harm public schools" (See ADF).

So, do you suppose this will convince Democrats to support school vouchers? Not a chance. That's because they are really not nearly as interested in quality education as they are in politics, and the NEA--which opposes school vouchers--is strongly Democrat.

The destruction of America

According to President Obama, the average family should soon see and extra $65 per month in their paycheck. I wonder why he didn't bother to mention that if his new spending programs were divided up among all American taxpayers, it would come to over $25,000 each!

No worries. He's just going to tax the rich right?

Even the most basic inspection of the IRS income tax statistics shows that raising taxes on the salaries, dividends and capital gains of those making more than $250,000 can’t possibly raise enough revenue to fund Mr. Obama’s new spending ambitions…

Read the entire story on Hot Air.

When I was growing up we used to worry about the Soviet Union destroying the United States. Lately we've been concerned about Islamic terrorists destroying America. As it turns out, the real threat of destruction may come from Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and President Obama.

Digging out of a hole

As I understand it, the new 4 Trillion dollar federal budget that President Obama is about to propose contains an additional 750 Billion dollars for a second bailout!

Isn't this a bit like trying to dig one's way out of a hole? (Just 750 billion more shovel fulls ought to do it!)

Byrd, Obama and the Constitution

According to Politico:
Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), the longest-serving Democratic senator, is criticizing President Obama’s appointment of White House “czars” to oversee federal policy, saying these executive positions amount to a power grab by the executive branch.

In a letter to Obama on Wednesday, Byrd complained about Obama’s decision to create White House offices on health reform, urban affairs policy, and energy and climate change. Byrd said such positions “can threaten the Constitutional system of checks and balances.
Note that this concern comes from a constitutional scholar who is also a Democrat! When a Democrat starts expressing concern over President Obama's apparent lust for power, you know we're in trouble! Please read the entire article.

The end of freedom

Hate crimes legislation is now making its way through Congress. See Janet Porter's outstanding article on how hate crimes legislation has led to persecution of Christians in other countries. Think it can't happen here? Think again.

California's crisis

Below are some excepts from an outstanding article by James Lambert. When you get a chance, please take time to read the entire article at OneNewsNow:

California now "has a $42 billion deficit (through 2010)."

For many years, politics in California have been controlled by Democrats. They control the heavily populated cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco. Nothing can get done in state government without the consent of influential power brokers (i.e., government-worker labor unions, a variety of influential lobby groups) and Democratic legislative members in Sacramento.

Yet, they continue to support efforts to:

• Pay for the community college education of illegal aliens

• Pay for the (so-called emergency) health benefits of illegal aliens

Not verify citizen status of public school attendees -- giving free education tohundreds of thousands of illegal aliens around our state (costing close to $10,000 per year per student)

• Sponsor assistance programs for the indigent poor (programs we cannot afford)

• Pay for school lunch programs (again, that we cannot afford)

• Continue to pay retired state employees huge pensions (upward to 70%+ of annual income) many years into their retirement

• Pay for road improvement programs out of the general fund (instead of funds from the "gas tax," where these funds are supposed to be derived)

• Continue to reward ineptitude of the public school system instead of making educators accountable for poor results in their school districts

• Remain lax on certain types of criminal behavior in schools (i.e., marijuana on campus)

• Block off-shore drilling despite the fact there are huge oil reserves off California's shores (oil revenue would bring in good, high-paying jobs as well as much-needed state revenue)

It's a shame that the states that have carefully budgeted and lived within their means -- states like North Dakota -- are now paying for the wastefulness and rampant spending of states like California. Will we ever learn?

Maybe the question should be, "Will Democrats and "moderate Republicans" ever learn?"

Proposition 8 and "tolerance"

You will recall that proposition 8 in California was a defense of traditional marriage. An article entitled "Chilling Free Speech" tells of how gay rights activists (opponents of Proposition 8) have created Google Maps with the names and addresses of those who supported traditional marriage. The article says,

The only point of identifying Proposition 8 supporters is to encourage people to harass them. And the tactic is working.

Opponents of traditional marriage have sent threatening emails and vandalized churches. They have forced supporters out of their jobs and boycotted their businesses. They’ve made abusive telephone calls and even threatened their neighbors with death. Hundreds of cases of harassment have been documented.

Remember how gay rights was supposed to be all about "tolerance?" Tolerance was was just a ruse used to get the camel's nose in the tent. The camel is now about to destroy the tent!

The article reminds us that "Seventy-odd years ago, Adolf Hitler turned loose his brown shirts on Germany. These vicious young thugs went street by street, seeking out Jews and communists and trade union leaders. They beat them up and destroyed their places of business."

That's tolerance, Leftist style. (hat tip: John W.)

"I will vomit..."

"In Michigan, the new bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan is an ordained Zen Buddhist."

"Meanwhile, Presbyterian Church (USA) representatives in Arkansas and central North Carolina have endorsed amending the church constitution to allow non-celibate homosexuals to be ordained as ministers, elders and deacons" (OneNewsNow).

According to Revelation 3:16 Jesus spoke of "lukewarm" churches saying he would "vomit you out of my mouth"(NetBible; NKJV). I suspect those words apply in these cases as well.

A line in the sand

There was recently an article in the New York Times suggesting a compromise solution to the gay rights issue: "Federal recognition of state-level civil unions and same-sex marriage but if and only if those states offer substantive religious-liberty protection — and the federal government offers substantive religious-liberty protection, too."

Sounds like the perfect solution! Maggie Gallagher, however, demonstrates that, unfortunately, it may not be this easy. Here are some excerpts:
From where I stand, it looks like the progressive/democrat position states: If you believe marriage means a husband and wife, you are not just wrong, you are downright wicked and deserve to have your home address put up on the internet so strangers can harass you.

Because, to date, gay rights groups have shown little willingness to offer any substantive religious-liberty protections at the state level.

If gay rights groups are not interested in a compromise, this Congress and President are not likely to force them to accept one.
The California court has just declared that orientation is a protected status just like race. And racial equality trumps religious liberty in our system of government.
If you read only one article today, please read Ms. Gallagher's short, but insightful article.

I think Maggie Gallagher hit the nail on the head. Gay rights groups do not appear to be interested in compromise. They want to crush anyone who disagrees with them even if that means trampling on the first amendment.

If our freedom of speech and religion begins to be trampled in the name of gay rights, Christians, Muslims and Jews need take a page from Martin Luther King and rise up all over the country in massive peaceful protests and civil disobedience.

The future of America is literally at stake here. If we do not draw a line in the sand and refuse to accept the trampling of our religious freedom, we will be flushing down the toilet the freedom our forefathers fought and died for--and our children and grandchildren will pay the price!

Breaking: stock market drop

I just received a USA TODAY breaking news e-mail. The stock market has dropped to the lowest point in over ten years.

Doesn't sound like Wall Street has much confidence in the Democratic stimulus package.

9,000 earmarks!

During the presidential debate in Oxford, Mississippi, Barack Obama said, "We need earmark reform." He went on to add, "And when I am president, I will go line by line to make sure we are not spending money unwisely."

According to NewsMax, Congress is working on a "$410 billion omnibus spending bill" that will contain 9,000 earmarks!

Any bets on whether President Obama will keep his campaign pledge and get tough on earmarks?

Freedom of religion in Iraq

Bishops from both the Orthodox and Catholic Church recently met in Lebanon in a show of unity for the church in Iraq. NewsMax reports:

Iraqis massively fled Baghdad starting in 2004, when Muslim extremists began fire-bombing churches, kidnapping and murdering Christians, and demanding that Christians convert to Islam or pay the “jizya” – a Koranic protection tax imposed on non-Muslims.

Thousands of Christians in Baghdad and other major cities received letters slipped beneath their front doors warning them that failure to the jizya or convert to Islam was a crime punishable by death.

At least three hundred Iraqi Christians have been the victim of targeted killings by Muslim extremists since 2004. Most estimates agree that half of Iraq’s pre-war population of 1.4 million Christians have fled the country or have taken refuge in the Kurdish region to the north, where they are unable to work or settle permanently.

If we just replaced one repressive Iraqi government (Saddam Hussein's) with another one, all those Americans died for nothing, all because the Bush administration did not insist on an Iraqi government which would guarantee religious freedom for everyone. And the Obama administration is not above trampling religious freedom in America so they will certainly not fight for it in Iraq.

The five state mortgage crisis

According to a recent study by the CATO Institute, the mortgage crisis is really primarily a crisis in just five states: California, Nevada, Arizona, Florida and Michigan!

For example, in California one out of ever 173 homes went into foreclosure but in New York, only one out of every 2,271 was foreclosed upon!

The biggest difference was between Nevada and Vermont. In Vermont only one out of every 52,000 homes went into foreclosure. In Nevada it was one out of 76!

And in many cases the problem was that people who were not poor, took out second mortgages (to buy that new boat or add that nice swimming pool?).

And now all the rest of us--and our children--can pay for it! Read the story on FrontPage.

Rejecting the stimulus money

Some modern heroes, unfortunately, my governor is not one of them! Fox New is reporting that:

Louisiana Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal is sticking to his position of rejecting part of the federal stimulus money for his state, saying Sunday that accepting an increase in unemployment benefits will lead to higher taxes on businesses in his state.

Mississippi Republican Gov. Haley Barbour, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin say they may follow suit. They say the money to be disbursed to the states in the $787 billion spending and tax cuts package comes with too many strings attached.

South Caroline governor Mark Sanford said,
"It sounds like the Soviet grain quotas of Stalin's time -- X number of jobs will be created because Washington says so. And that's not the way that jobs get created,"

The trouble with socialism...

"The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money" (Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of England).

I'd say our trillion dollar spending bill puts us way beyond that point.

No rights for enemy combatants

Sounds like "The justice department ruled that some 600 so-called enemy combatants at Bagram have no constitutional rights." Ed Morrissey asks, " Remember how the Left considered Bush a war criminal for taking this exact position?"

President Obama is now sending 17,000 troops into a war in Afghanistan which many say cannot be won and which his own general says will take at least five years; and now President Obama takes the same position as President Bush on enemy combatants!

Will the mainstream media, Hollywood elites, and the rest of the Left now hold mass protests in the streets, begin equating Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler and chant, "Obama lied, people died," as they did with President Bush? Will we now have congressional hearings on closing down the detention facility at Bagram Air Base?

Or was much of the anti-war, anti-Bush, hysteria just so much hypocrisy by a bunch of "useful idiots" who were duped and used to orchestrate a Democratic power grab.

I guess it worked, and for many people, that's all that counts.

The Oscars

"The Oscars are a time when celebrities take a break from worshiping Barack Obama and take some time to worship themselves" (Jay Leno, Tonight Show, February 20, 2009)

President Obama's open government?

"FOX Business Network has won a victory against the Treasury Department in its Freedom of Information Act request for details about the government’s bailout plan" (Fox Business).

President Obama promised openness in government under his administration. If his government is so open, why did Fox Business have to go to court to get something that should have been available under the Freedom of Information Act?

ACORN breaking into homes

An ACORN mob in Baltimore is apparently engaging in "civil disobedience" by breaking in to homes. Read the story at MichelleMalkin.com.

President Obama used to work for ACORN. The Democratic bailout will help fund ACORN.

Nuclear Iran

Fox News is reporting this morning that Iran now has enough enriched uranium to create a nuclear weapon. Iran with nuclear weapons is like Nazi Germany with nukes.

I hope President Obama is up to this challenge. Heaven help us if he's not.

Clement of Rome, AD 97

A lot of attention has been given lately to early “Christian” writings which were not included in the Bible. Most of these writings, these so called “lost gospels” are really not even Christian at all. Just because a document refers to Jesus in positive terms does not make it “Christian” any more than the Qur’an could be called “Christian” even though Muhammad had a lot of good things to say about Jesus.

Below, however, is a summary of a long letter by a genuine early Christian leader. Written by a church leader named Clement, it is probably the earliest Christian writing outside the New Testament. Most scholars believe Clement’s letter to the Corinthians was written in the mid-90’s AD, which is about the same time that the Gospel of John, the letters of John, and the Book of Revelation were written. Some ancient writers (Origen, Epiphanius, Jerome, Eusebius) believed that the author of this letter was the same Clement that Paul mentioned in Philippians 4:3.

According to Tertullian Clement was ordained by Peter. Irenaeus says that Clement, who “had seen the blessed apostles, and had been conversant with them, might be said to have the preaching of the apostles still echoing [in his ears], and their traditions before his eyes.”

Clement wrote to address a recent division in the Church of Corinth in which some church members managed to overthrown their church leaders. Since Clement believed these church leaders to have been blameless in their character he sees the division as abominable, and strongly argues that those who perpetrated this deplorable situation repent and that the leaders be restored to their positions immediately.

The extended summary below follows Clement’s main argument chapter by chapter.
This summary was created by downloading Clement’s letter (which is in public domain) and carefully editing it to create a kind of “Readers Digest condensed version” which included updated language. This edited version was then further summarized in many places in order to further shorten Clement’s very long letter.

Without further ado, I give you a summary the earliest Christian writing not included in the New Testament: Clement’s letter to the Corinthians

Summary of Clement’s letter to the Corinthians

Because of the recent calamitous events, we have been slow in responding to your questions especially about the shameful sedition in your church. Anyone who has been with you for even a short time knows of your godliness, hospitality, humility, obedience to God; as well as your insatiable desire for doing good and concern for salvation of the lost.

But the honor bestowed on you led to pride from which flowed envy, strife, and sedition. The young and foolish rose up against the righteous and some were walking in their own ungodly envy, not acting like Christians.
Envy is what caused Cain to murder Abel. Envy led Joseph into slavery. Envy compelled Moses to flee from Pharaoh. Because of envy David was persecuted by Saul. In our own generation, envy caused the persecution and death of Peter and Paul, the most righteous pillars of the church. To these are added a multitude of the elect who have endured indignities and tortures. Envy has alienated wives from husbands, and strife has overthrown great cities and uprooted mighty nations.

Therefore, let us give up fruitless cares and attend to what is pleasing in God’s sight. Let us look steadfastly to the precious blood of Christ shed for our salvation and let us learn from past generations the place of repentance to all as would be converted unto Him.

Noah preached repentance and those who listened were saved. Jonah proclaimed destruction to the Ninevites but they repented and were saved. These ministers of God’s grace spoke of repentance by the Holy Spirit.

Let us, therefore, be obedient to God’s glorious will, forsaking strife and envy which lead to death. Let us steadfastly contemplate those who have ministered to his excellent glory: Enoch, being righteous in obedience was translated and did not die. Noah, being found faithful, preached regeneration to the world. Abraham was found faithful, rendering obedience to the words of God. Because of his faith and hospitality, a son was given him in his old age; and in the exercise of obedience, he offered him as a sacrifice to God.

Due to his hospitality and godliness, Lot was saved out of Sodom. Because of her faith and hospitality, Rahab was saved by concealing the spies. Let us therefore, be of humble mind, laying aside pride, foolishness, and angry feelings. For the Holy Spirit says, "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, neither let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him that glories, glory in the Lord.”

Be especially mindful of the words of the Lord Jesus who said,

"Be merciful, that you may obtain mercy; forgive, that it may be forgiven to you; as you do, so shall it be done unto you; as you judge, so shall you be judged; as you are kind, so shall kindness be shown to you; with what measure you mete, with the same it shall be measured to you."

By these rules let us establish ourselves in obedience to his holy words.

It is right, therefore, to obey God rather than follow those who through pride and sedition have led this detestable envious rivalry. We shall incur great danger if we yield ourselves to those who excite strife and tumults. Cleave, therefore, to those who cultivate peace with godliness, not to those who hypocritically profess to desire it.

Follow the example of Christ who is of the humble-minded, not of those who exalt themselves over his flock. Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Scepter of the majesty of God, did not come in the pomp of pride or arrogance, but in a lowly condition as the Holy Spirit declares.

Let us be imitators of those who went about proclaiming the coming of Christ; like Elijah, Elisha, Ezekiel, Abraham, Job, Moses or David. Having so many great examples, let us turn again to the practice of that peace and look steadfastly to God.

The heavens and earth, the ocean and the worlds beyond; God appointed all these to exist in peace and harmony while he does good to all, but most abundantly to us though our Lord Jesus Christ to whom be glory and majesty forever and ever.

Take heed, lest his many kindnesses lead to condemnation, unless we walk worthy of him and do those things which are pleasing in his sight. Rather we should offend foolish, inconsiderate men than God. Reverence the Lord Jesus Christ, whose blood was given for us. Esteem those who have the rule over you. Honor your church leaders.

Train up young men in the fear of God. Direct your wives to do good and exhibit purity, meekness, impartiality and a command of their tongue. Let your children be partakers of Christian training; let them learn how important humility is before God and how it saves all those who walk in it. His breath is in us and he takes it when he pleases.

Consider how the Lord continually proves to us that there will be a future resurrection of which our Lord Jesus Christ was the first-fruits when he rose from the dead. Day and night declare a resurrection, as does the sowing of seed.

Having this hope, let us be bound to him who is faithful and just. Let his faith, therefore, be stirred up again within us. Let us fear him and forsake those wicked works which proceed from abominable lusts of evil deeds so that, through his mercy, we may be protected from the judgments to come.

Since we are the portion of the Holy One, let us behave in holiness, avoiding all evil-speaking, impure embraces, drunkenness, seeking after change, abominable lusts, detestable adultery, and execrable pride.

Let us clothe ourselves with concord and humility, exercising self-control, standing far off from all whispering and evil-speaking, being justified by our actions, and not our words. Let our praise be in God and not of ourselves; for God hates those that commend themselves. Arrogance and audacity belong to those that are accursed of God, but moderation, humility, and meekness belong to such as are blessed by Him.

Consider Abraham. Was he not blessed because he wrought righteousness and truth through faith; or Isaac who yielded himself as a sacrifice; or Jacob who served Laban and was given the scepter of the twelve tribes of Israel?

All these, therefore, were made great, not for their own works or for the righteousness which they wrought, but through the operation of His will. And we, too, being called in Christ Jesus, are not justified by ourselves, nor by our godliness or works; but by that faith through which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men; to whom be glory forever and ever.

Shall we become slothful in well-doing and cease from the practice of love? God forbid! Rather let us hasten to perform every good work, for the Creator himself rejoices in his works.
He established the heavens. He divided the earth from the water. He created the animals, and above all he formed man in his own image, the most excellent of his creatures. Having therefore such an example, let us work the work of righteousness with our whole strength.

He forewarns us: "Behold, the Lord comes and his reward is before His face, to render to every man according to his work." He exhorts us that we be not lazy or slothful in any good work and that our boasting and confidence be in him.

Let us therefore cry to him earnestly that we may be made partakers of his great and glorious promises. For the Scripture says, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which he hath prepared for them that wait for him."
Let us therefore earnestly strive to be found among those that wait for him, that we may share in his promised gifts.

How shall this be done? If our understanding be fixed by faith towards God; if we earnestly seek the things which are pleasing to Him; if we do the things which are in harmony with his will; and if we follow the way of truth, casting away from us all unrighteousness and iniquity, along with all covetousness, strife, evil practices, deceit, whispering, and evil-speaking, all hatred of God, pride and haughtiness, vainglory and ambition--for they that do such things are hateful to God; and not only they that do them, but also those who take pleasure in them that do them.

Let us then, act the part of soldiers. Not all are prefects nor commanders, but each one in his own rank performs the things commanded by the king and the generals. Let us take our body for an example. The very smallest members of our body are necessary and useful to the whole body. But all work harmoniously together for the preservation of the whole body.

Let everyone be subject to his neighbor according to the special gift bestowed upon him. Let the strong not despise the weak, and let the weak show respect unto the strong. Let the rich provide for the wants of the poor; and let the poor bless God for those by whom God supplies the needs. Let the wise man display his wisdom, not by mere words, but through good deeds.

It behooves us, therefore, to do all things in their proper order at stated times. God has commanded offerings to be presented and service to be performed at the appointed times. Some ministries are assigned to the high priest, others to the priests, still others to the Levites. The layman is bound by the laws that pertain to laymen. Let none of you not go beyond the rule of the ministry prescribed to him.

The Lord Jesus Christ was sent forth by God and the apostles by Christ. Having therefore received their orders they went forth proclaiming the kingdom of God, being fully assured by the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, established in the word of God, with the full assurance of the Holy Spirit. They appointed the first-fruits of their labors to be bishops and deacons, having first tested them in the Spirit.

This is no wonder since Moses also wrote in the sacred books all the injunctions which were given him, and the other prophets followed him bearing witness with one voice to the ordinances which he had appointed.

Our apostles also knew, through our Lord Jesus Christ, that there would be strife on account of the office of the episcopate so they appointed those ministers already mentioned, and gave instructions that when these should fall asleep, other approved men should succeed them in their ministry.

We are of opinion, therefore, that those appointed by them—or appointed afterwards by other eminent men—with the consent of the whole Church, and who have blamelessly served the flock of Christ, cannot be justly dismissed from the ministry. Our sin will not be small if we eject from the oversight those who have blamelessly fulfilled its duties. But we see that you have removed some honorable men of excellent and blameless behavior from the ministry.

You are fond of contention and full of zeal about things which do not pertain to salvation. Look carefully into the Scriptures, which are the true utterances of the Holy Spirit. Observe that nothing of an unjust or counterfeit character is written in them. There you see that the righteous, like Daniel and his three friends were persecuted only by the wicked. Exposed to such sufferings, they endured gloriously.

Let us cleave, therefore, to the righteous, since these are the elect of God. Why is there strife and divisions among you? Have we not all one God and one Christ? Is there not one Spirit of grace poured out upon us? Why do we divide and tear to pieces the members of Christ. Have we reached such a height of madness as to forget that we are members one of another?

Remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, how he said, "Woe to that man by whom offences come!" Your division has subverted the faith of many and has caused grief to us all. And still your sedition continues.

Take up the epistle of the blessed Apostle Paul. Truly, under the inspiration of the Spirit he wrote to you concerning himself, Cephas, and Apollos; because even then divisions had been formed among you. It is highly disgraceful and unworthy of conduct in Christ that in the most steadfast and ancient Church of the Corinthians one or two persons should engage in sedition against its leaders. And this rumor has reached not only us, but also to non-Christians so that the name of the Lord is blasphemed while danger is also brought upon yourselves. Let us therefore, quickly put an end to this, beseeching the Lord with tears that he would mercifully restore us to brotherly love.

Let him who has love in Christ keep the commandments of Christ. Love unites us to God and covers a multitude of sins. Love admits of no divisions. Love gives rise to no seditions. Without love nothing is well-pleasing to God. In love the Lord has taken us to Himself. On account of his love toward us, Jesus Christ our Lord gave his blood for us by the will of God.

Let us pray, therefore, that we may live blameless in love, free from all human partialities for one above another. Blessed are we, beloved, if we keep the commandments of God in the harmony of love; that so through love our sins may be forgiven us. For it is written, "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not impute to him, and in whose mouth there is no guile" This blessedness comes upon those who have been chosen by God through Jesus Christ our Lord; to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Let us therefore implore forgiveness for our transgressions. Those who have been the leaders of sedition ought to have respect to the common hope. For such as live in fear and love would rather that they themselves would suffer than their neighbors. For it is better that a man should acknowledge his transgressions than that he should harden his heart, as the hearts of those were hardened who stirred up sedition against Moses, for they went down alive into Hades.

Pharaoh with his army were sunk in the depths of the Red Sea and perished for no other reason than that their foolish hearts were hardened, after so many signs and wonders had been wrought in the land of Egypt by Moses the servant of God.

You understand well the Sacred Scriptures; Call then these things to remembrance. When Moses went up into the mount forty days and forty nights, the Lord said unto him, "Moses, go down quickly for your people have committed iniquity and have made to themselves molten images.”

The Lord said to him, "Behold, it is a stiff-necked people: let me destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make you a great and wonderful nation.” But Moses said, "Lord: pardon the sin of this people; or else blot me out of the book of the living." O marvelous love! The servant asks forgiveness for the people, or begs that he himself might be wiped out along with them.

Who among you is compassionate and full of love? Let him declare, "If on my account sedition and divisions have arisen, I will go away and do whatever the multitude commands; only let the flock of Christ live on terms of peace with the presbyters set over it." He that acts thus shall procure to himself great glory in the Lord.

Even among the heathen, many kings and princes have given themselves up to death in order that by their own blood they might deliver their fellow-citizens from destruction. Many have gone forth from their own cities so sedition might be brought to an end within them.

Many among us have given themselves up to slavery that they might ransom or provide food for others. Many women also, have performed numerous exploits. For example, the blessed Judith, when her city was besieged, exposed herself to danger and went out for the love which she had for her country, and the Lord delivered the enemy into the hands of a woman. Esther also, being perfect in faith, exposed herself to no less danger in order to deliver the twelve tribes of Israel from impending destruction.

Let us then pray for those who have fallen into sin, that they may submit, not unto us, but to the will of God. Let us receive correction on account of which no one should feel displeased. For thus says the Holy Word: "For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives."

You therefore who laid the foundation of this sedition, submit yourselves to the presbyters and receive correction so as to repent. Learn to be subject, laying aside the proud and arrogant self-confidence of your tongue. For it is better for you that you should occupy a humble but honorable place in the flock of Christ than that you should be cast out from the hope of his people.

May God who chose our Lord Jesus Christ, and us through him to be a peculiar people, grant to every soul that calls upon his holy name, faith, fear, peace, patience, long-suffering, self-control, purity, and sobriety, to the well-pleasing of our High Priest and Protector, Jesus Christ, to him be glory, and majesty, and power, and honor, both now and for evermore.

Send back speedily to us in peace our messengers to you: Claudius Ephebus and Valerius Bito, with Fortunatus: that they may announce to us the harmony we so earnestly long for and that we may the more quickly rejoice over the good order re-established among you.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you that are the called of God through Him to whom be glory, honor, power, majesty and eternal dominion, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen.

Terrorist training in America

Terrorist training comes to America. Read about it at Human Events.

Trading freedom for fairness

The headline of this morning's Wall Street Journal reads, "Housing Bailout at $275 Billion." The story is on President Obama's plan to "enable as many as five million homeowners who owe more than their home is worth...to refinance loans through government controlled mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."

This raises several questions. For example:

Wasn't it Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that got us into this economic crisis in the first place? Didn't the Democrats learn anything from that fiasco?

Since I am one of those people who now owe more on my home than it is worth, why should I (if not for my Christian integrity) pay any more mortgage payments? Why not just go in default so the government will refinance my home and lower my payments? Why should anyone in my situation continue to pay their mortgage?

But I will continue to pay my mortgage on time--so is it "fair" that others in my community will use my tax dollars to lower their mortgages, while those of us who still have a sense of integrity and self-respect will continue making payments on homes which are no longer worth what we own on them? Is that fair? Don't get me wrong. I don't mind helping people who are in danger of loosing their homes due to events beyond their control, for example, illness or company layoffs. But will President Obama's plain distinguish between those who are down on their luck, and those who just chose to live beyond their means? If not, why should those of use who try to live within our means pay for those who don't? Is that fair?

If the government can just step in an re-do a private mortgage contract, why would any private bank or mortgage company ever again loan money for a mortgage? Would you loan money to someone if you knew the government would come in after the fact and tell that person that they no longer have to pay you back the full amount? If we didn't know better we might think this was a brilliant socialist scheme to turn American into the United States Socialist Republik!

It seems to me that the Democrats' response to virtually every problem is to throw money at it (your money!) and to regulate it. Fairness seems to be the battle cry. It's just not fair that people owe more than their house is worth. Its just not fair that so many people are getting laid off. So the government throws a trillion dollars at the problem and regulates it.

The American people are going to have to choose whether they want freedom or fairness. You can't have both. But if you choose fairness, beware. Even if every single politician in government had absolutely pure motives and the best intentions, fairness is an illusive and impossible goal. What seems fair to someone will often seem intensely unfair to someone else.

If we trade away our freedom for fairness, we will not have either.

Sharia for peace

According to the Telegraph in England, the United States is privately backing Sharia law for peace in Pakistan. I agree with Pamela Geller of "Atlas Shrugs" when she writes:

One small step for Obama's Muslim roots, one giant step into the grave for women, kuffars, infidels, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs..........

This is the "change" President Hussein promised? The sanctioning of Sharia law? Sharia law's complete oppression and totalitarian rule - honor killings, wife beatings, death for apostates and hypocrites, women as chattel? ........Rubbing my non-believing eyes.

I didn't agree with President Bush's naive belief that the spread of Democracy would bring peace and freedom. But at least President Bush was pushing for Democracy and freedom. Apparently the new administration--like Neville Chamberlain before World War II-- is more interested in peace at any price.

If our President will trade Pakistani's freedom for our peace, will he ever trade our freedom for peace as well?

Where is the anti-war crowd?

Yesterday I posted on how Barack Obama announced that he will be sending 17,000 troops to Afghanistan. Today, General McKiernan said that things will be tough for the troops and that we may have to be there for five years.

Still not a peep from the anti-war crowd. Maybe much of the anti-war hysteria was really just anti-Bush.

Thomas Sowell on political correctness

Thomas Sowell offers a suggestion for fighting political correctness. He makes a very good point. Generally speaking, the Left is not educating. They are indoctrinating.

Forced participation in gay rights parade

According to the Thomas Moore Law Center:

In July 2007, the four San Diego firefighters were ordered, against their wishes, to participate in uniform on their city fire engine in San Diego’s annual “Gay Pride” parade. During the course of the ensuing three hour long ordeal, the firefighters were subjected to vile sexual taunts and gestures along the parade route. These firemen are devoted husbands and fathers. All four firemen are Christian men.

Yesterday, shortly before 4:30 p.m. P.S.T., the jury found in favor of the four courageous Christian firefighters on all nine questions in the verdict form.
Now, can these men turn around and file lawsuits against the city for trampling their freedom of religion, violating their civil rights, and for subjecting them to sexual harassment? Cities need to understand that this kind of fascism will not be tolerated.

Unconstitutional stimulus

Judge Roy Moore says the stimulus plan is unconstitutional. Just one example:
The United States Supreme Court in Widmar v. Vincent has already ruled that if a state university makes meeting rooms available to certain student groups, it must make those facilities available to religious student groups without discrimination on an equal access basis. The stimulus plan includes aid to public and private universities for renovation of buildings but specifically prohibiting those universities from using these renovated buildings for sectarian instruction or religious worship. This is a blatant attack on the Constitution's guarantee of free speech, free exercise of religion and equal protection of the law.

Muslim Brotherhood in America

"The Muslim Brotherhood is dedicated in its own words to "a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within"

According to a former FBI agent and Islamic expert for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, The Muslim Brotherhood is behind every major Muslim organization in America. Political correctness keeps us from addressing the issue. Read the entire story here.

President Obama needs to implement a policy immediately stopping all Muslim immigration from any country which does not allow Muslims to change their religion and which does not allow other religions from freely promoting their religion in that country.

Yeah, like that's going to happen!

17,000 troops going to Afghanistan

According to AFP, "In his first major military move, President Barack Obama approved the deployment of 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan, saying they were needed "to stabilize a deteriorating situation."

I wonder if we will again see major demonstrations by Code Pink and other anti-war groups--being covered endlessly by the mainstream news media--or if they are just against war when Republicans are doing it.

Good news in the world of Islam

Good news in the world of Islam:
The new president of HCJB Global says the Christian radio ministry now has an estimated seven million mostly-Muslim listeners in North Africa and the Middle East.

Wayne Pederson says the Arab world is full of "lost people who need Jesus, and they're getting tired of a message of hate and are looking for a message of love." He says that through HCJB radio broadcasts, the gospel is penetrating Muslim societies -- so much so that entire households, and in some cases entire villages, are converting to Christianity.

Where is the outrage?

Where is the feminist outrage? How can women be treated like this in America without media, feminist, Hollywood, and Congressional uproar?!

The Obamassiah

Simply unbelievable! If Evangelicals like Tim LaHaye (Left Behind series) had written a novel in which a President of the United States was treated like this, everyone would have said the story was too far-fetched to be believable.

I wonder if this display was intended as some kind of a joke. And the title of the blog post is interesting, especially since the author of the blog is Jewish, not Christian.

Beheading in New York

A woman in Buffalo, New York was beheaded in what was apparently a Muslim honor killing.

Michelle Malkin asks, "Do you think this will get as much attention from the MSM as, say, the Ted Haggard scandal or Pat Robertson’s Teletubbies remarks?"

Good question. I suspect that even if the media did cover it extensively, they would do so in a way that downplayed Islamic violence by citing the violence in all religions.

People have been so brainwashed into thinking that all religious are basically the same, they seem unable to wrap their minds around the fact that Islam really is different.

While there are many peaceful Muslims (who deserve, by the way, to be treated with respect and compassion), Islam as a political-religious system has been fundamentally violent, murderous, oppressive--even toward other Muslims--and imperialistic since the time of Muhammad. It is like a cancer.

And now we've welcomed it into America.

Very disturbing rumors

I'm hearing some very disturbing rumors. For example,
The absolutely enormous stimulus package will greatly increase the size and power of the federal government, and its control over Americans.

The stimulus money that will be given to the states will have significant federal Government strings attached, and states will be forced to take the money (and federal government control) whether the states want it or not.

The stimulus package gives literally billions of dollars (in payback money?) to organizations like ACORN which is under investigation in several states for voter fraud and which helped President Obama to win the election--and will help solidify Democratic control in future elections.

President Obama wants to move control over census-taking directly to the White House and away from the Commerce Department. If Democrats wanted to rig future elections, controlling the census would be one of the best ways of doing it.

When the Democrats couldn't get socialized medicine passed by legislation, they buried it in the one-thousand plus page stimulus package so they could get it passed without public debate or opposition.

The stimulus package had an anti-religion provision discriminating against people of faith in the allocation of funds for educational facilities.

The Supreme Court wouldn't let Democrats take away American's guns, so Democrats now want to regulate (take away) American's amunition!

Democrats violated their own rules and crammed the one thousand plus page stimulus package down our throats by holding a vote only about 12 hours after the final version was released instead of the 48 hours required by House rules. As one Congressman said, not one single person in Congress read the entire bill.

Republicans are being shut out of Congressional discussions as Nancy Pelosi declares that Democrats won the election and Democrats will write the laws.

Democrats want judges who will interpret the Constitution in light of contemporary standards of left-wing political correctness, which means, of course, that our Constitution will have about as much authority as a constitution had in the former Soviet Union (almost none).

Democrats want to establish hate crimes laws which will have a chilling effect on free speech when homosexuals and radical Muslims began filing frivolous lawsuits against those who publicly disagree with them (even if the lawsuits fail, people will be afraid to speak out).

Democrats are trying to change union rules to eliminate secret ballots!

Some of the "strings" attached to stimulus money include regulations against speaking out against certain Democratic agendas.

More and more Democrats are pushing the Orwellian "Fairness Doctrine" to censor conservative talk radio. If Democrats really thought they were promoting fairness, they would make it include TV as well. But Democrats don't want Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, or Rush Limbaugh to have equal time on ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and CNN! Democrats are not really interested in fairness at all! Like Nazi's or Communists they are just interested in silencing opposing views.
Even if only half of these rumors were true, Democrats are sounding less and less like liberals or progressives, and more and more like power-hungry fascists! Barack Obama has only been in power for a couple of weeks but his "imperial presidency" is already making Presidents Nixon and Bush look like a couple of libertarians by contrast!

Islam and freedom of speech

Rick Santorum had a article in the Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday. He documents the widespread, increasing, and very serious attack on freedom of speech by Islam. If you read nothing else this week, please read Mr. Santorum's outstanding (and short) article.

Arrested for hurting Muslim's feelings

An editor and publisher in India have been arrested for hurting the feeling of Muslims! The article they published was entitled, "Why should I respect these oppressive religions? The author writes:
"I don't respect the idea that we should follow a 'Prophet' who at the age of 53 had sex with a nine-year old girl, and ordered the murder of whole villages of Jews because they wouldn't follow him."
The author has a good point.

Apparently the only way Islam can flourish is to suppress the truth, and to kill those, having discovered the truth, attempt to convert away from Islam.

We hate you guys!

Lueo Ping, of the China Regulatory Commission recently said,
"We hate you guys. Once you start issuing $1 trillion - $2 trillion...we know the dollar is going to depreciate, so we hate you guys but there is nothing much we can do."
I thought the Democrats were going to restore respect for America in the world but they begin with a bill that makes the most populous nation on the planet "hate us"!

More and more regulation

Another Democratic assault on American freedom.

"The Fierce Urgency of Pork"

Charles Krauthammer has an outstanding short article entitled, "The Fierce Urgency of Pork" in the Washington Post. Please read the entire article, but here is beginning (Hat tip, John W):
"A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe." -- President Obama, Feb. 4.

Catastrophe, mind you. So much for the president who in his inaugural address two weeks earlier declared "we have chosen hope over fear." Until, that is, you need fear to pass a bill.

And so much for the promise to banish the money changers and influence peddlers from the temple. An ostentatious executive order banning lobbyists was immediately followed by the nomination of at least a dozen current or former lobbyists to high position. Followed by a Treasury secretary who allegedly couldn't understand the payroll tax provisions in his 1040. Followed by Tom Daschle, who had to fall on his sword according to the new Washington rule that no Cabinet can have more than one tax delinquent.
Read the rest at the Washington Post.

100 lashes for a gang-raped woman

Dhimmi Watch reports:

The testimony of four male witnesses is the standard for establishing guilt in sexual offenses under Sharia law, per Qur'an 4:15, 24:4, 24:6, and 24:13. Four male Muslim witnesses who saw the act. The testimony of the woman involved is inadmissible. Therefore if those four male witnesses do not come forward and the victim becomes pregnant, her pregnancy becomes evidence that she has committed adultery.

This sentence is not something extreme. It's standard Islamic Sharia.

Under these standard Sharia rules, a woman in Saudi Arabia who was gang-raped, was sentenced to 100 lashes.

Muslims will riot by the thousands over one stupid cartoon. Where are the riots when a Muslim woman is so horribly abused, not only by Muslim criminals, but by the Muslim legal system which oppresses Muslims?

Maybe an even better question, is: Where is the liberal and feminist outrage over this atrocity? Apparently Leftists are only upset when America mistreats terrorists.

Moderate Muslims speak

The following are excerpts from a MEMRI “Special Dispatch” No. 2239 entitled, “Arab Liberals: The Arab and Muslim World Condemns Human Rights Violations Only When Perpetrated by Non-Muslims”
In response to the sweeping condemnation in the Arab and Muslim world of Israel's actions in Gaza, and the calls to prosecute Israeli leaders for war crimes, liberal Arab writers have accused the Arabs and Muslims of hypocrisy. The liberal website www.elaph.com has published two articles in this vein, by Egyptian liberal Kamal Ghobrial and by Kuwaiti liberal Fahker Al-Sultan. Both writers point out that the Arab and Muslim world is quick to express outrage over atrocities and human rights violations when Arabs or Muslims are victimized by non-Muslims, but turns a blind eye – or even condones the violations – when the victims are non-Muslims, or when Muslims prosecute their own brothers, as happened in Saddam's Iraq and is happening today in Darfur. The writers argue that this double standard stems from the problem of hatred for the other, and especially towards Jews.

Following are excerpts from the two articles:

"According To These Courageous Jihadists, Only [Muslim] Blood Is Valuable, While the Blood Of Others Is Basically Worthless And Can Be Spilled Without A Qualm;

"The Palestinians were victimized by the Zionist and American enemy… while the Darfurians were victimized by their own leader [who is a Sunni Muslim. It follows that the support for the Palestinian people] does not stem from love for the Palestinians… but from hatred for the other… for Zionists or Christians.

"If the perpetrator of massacres against Kurds and Shi'ites in Iraq, and later [of massacres] in Kuwait, i.e. Saddam Hussein… is [considered] our hero and a leader of the Arab nation, then we will [obviously] disregard his crimes, and wake up only when some [non-Muslim] comes along to rescue us from his brutal jaws…

"In fact... why are the Muslims and Arabs categorically interested in the fate of the Lebanese and Palestinians, but are not so intensely interested in the fate of other Arab and Muslim peoples, such as the Iraqis, Sudanese, Afghanis, Somalis and others, who have faced much more severe persecution, terrorism and military [violence]?...

“Why [do we witness] these populist Islamist attacks on the actions and policies of Israel and the U.S. – [who are accused of violating] the rights of the peoples, such as the Palestinians and the Lebanese – while at the same time there is conspicuous silence in the face of the inhuman atrocities and tortures carried on in almost all prisons in the Arab and Muslim countries?

"Why is it that offenses against the dignity of Arabs and Muslims are 'blatant and obvious' only when the 'perpetrator' is Israel? Why this racial discrimination in defending human rights? Why distinguish one enemy from the other when the results of the oppression are the same?

"This approach... finds in the struggle against Israel fertile grounds for promoting its totalitarian religious slogans that correspond to its ideology. It characterizes every crisis as a struggle between what is completely lacking in religious validity and what is absolute religious truth. According to shari'a, [this truth] must be defended even it this contravenes our national and social interests and comes at the cost of thousands of innocent lives.

"Hizbullah's abduction of the two Israeli soldiers in the summer of 2006, as well as Hamas' actions [in 2009, and its decision] to continue firing its wretched rockets [into Israel] – should they not be subjected to objective and comprehensive criticism?

What I find fascinating about these quotes is the fact that if an American Right Winger like myself had asked some of these quesions or had made some of these arguments, the American Left would condemn us as being bigoted Islamaphobes. So if the Ameican Left is not on the side of moderate Muslims like these authors, whose side are they on?

By the way, I applaud these Muslim writers for their courage.

Kindle under attack

Cnet.com asks:

Was your mother a lawbreaker when she read you The Little Prince or Green Eggs and Ham?

That's the question raised Tuesday by the Author's Guild, an advocacy group for writers. Paul Aitken, the group's executive director objects to the text-to-speech feature on Amazon's Kindle 2 digital-book reader. Aitken told The Wall Street Journal: "They don't have the right to read a book out loud. That's an audio right, which is derivative under copyright law."

Wow. If a computer can't lawfully read a book out loud, do human beings have the right? Amazon and Aitken could not be reached for comment.

Unbelievable! What's next? Will publishers argue that you don't have a right to loan your book (or Kindle) to someone else because that may keep the recipient from purchasing the book themselves?

The 2 trillion dollar stimulus

It seems like just yesterday that Republicans were expressing concern that the 800 billion dollar porkulus package could turn into a trillion dollar pork bill.

Now, after the Senate has approved the bill, "Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner pledged government financing for as much as $2 trillion of efforts to spur new lending and address banks’ toxic assets, seeking to end the credit crunch hobbling the economic" (Bloomberg).

Hey, why stop at two trillion? Why not go for four trillion? Or five? Is there something in the Washington DC water supply that is making our leaders go insane?

It must be something that affects only Democrats and RINO's

President Obama and Islam

When it comes to Islam, President Obama just doesn't get it! See the analysis of his comments at the National Prayer Breakfast.

President Obama's news conference

See Hugh Hewitt for a very short, "to-the-point" analysis of President Obama's news conference tonight.

Illegal aliens sue rancher

According to a story in the Washington Times, A rancher on the Mexican border "began rounding up illegal immigrants in 1998 and turning them over to the U.S. Border Patrol after they destroyed his property, killed his calves and broke into his home..."

He is now being sued for 32 million dollars by 16 Mexican nationals who accuse them of violating their civil rights.

If this case is not dismissed by the courts, the United States Government should defend this rancher at government expense.

Political payback in Congress

One of the things the United States can be exceptionally proud of is that we always have an orderly transition of power from one administration to the next. In some countries, when a new team comes to power, the old rulers need to be concerned about being sent to prison, or worse. This never happens in America.

That may be about to change. According to the Associated Press, Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy, "
The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee is proposing a "truth commission" to investigate abuses of detainees, politically inspired moves at the Justice Department, and whole range of decisions made during the Bush Administration"

I'm sure our Democratic Congress will be fair and balanced when it comes to investigating Republicans! Is this really in pursuit of justice, or is it just mean-spirited vengeance against political opponents? Do we really want to start down this road of retaliating against previous administrations? What's next? Firing squads?

Drilling in ANWR

Democrats just don't get it! They--motivated by their radical environmentalist supporters--have thrown up road blocks in front of one domestic energy alternative after another--ANWR, off shore oil drilling, hydroelectric (got to save those snail darters!), coal, nuclear.....

According to an article by Sarah Palin, they have introduced legislation in Congress "to prohibit forever oil and gass development" in ANWR. Governor Palin writes:

I AM DISMAYED THAT LEGISLATION HAS AGAIN BEEN INTRODUCED in Congress to prohibit forever oil and gas development in the most promising unexplored petroleum province in North America -- the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, in Alaska.

Let's not forget: Only six months ago, oil was selling for nearly $150 per barrel, while Americans were paying $4 a gallon and more for gasoline. And today, there is potential for prices to rebound as OPEC asserts its market power and as Russia disrupts needed natural gas to Europe for the second time in three years.

Read the case for why we should be drilling in ANWR on the Star-Tribune website.

Maybe we can't

Mitt Romney on President Obama: “The theme ‘Yes, we can’ seems to have been replaced with ‘Well, maybe we can't,’”

I think that's what many of us were saying all during the campaign, i.e. that there is no way he can deliver on all his promises. (Hat tip: Jamie D)

Senate votes for discrimination

The courts have ruled if colleges and universities allow various student groups to use their facilities, they cannot discriminate against religious groups using the same facilities.

This was apparently not good enough for someone who included a provision in the stimulus package which prohibits schools that accept money for the modernization of university facilities from receiving stimulus money.

Republican Senator Jim DeMint proposed an amendment to the bill that would have removed the discriminatory language. Pro-discrimination bigots in the Senate rejected the amendment by a vote of 43 to 54. (The article says the vote was 63 to 54 but the Senate website says it was 43 to 54).

Not surprisingly, the vote pretty much split on party lines. Almost all of those who voted against Religion were Democrats. Almost all who voted for Religion were Republicans.

I simply cannot understand why so many Christians vote for Democrats.

Anti-Christian bigotry in California universities

The American Center for Law and Justice, The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, the Comon Good foundation, and the Seventh-day Adventist Church State Council are filing a lawsuit against the University of California system for its hostility and discrimination against Christians in the admissions process. Mortgage modification or "Mo Mod"

According to the New York Post:

In a nod to Main Street over Wall Street, sources familiar with the plan say Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner plans to allocate almost half of the remaining $350 billion in funds from the Trouble Asset Relief Program to the so-called "Mo Mod," or mortgage modification, platform....

The 21-day "Mo Mod" program works by structuring a new mortgage that more accurately reflects a home's worth so that a troubled borrower no longer owes more on their home than the property is worth.

Am I understanding this correctly? If you spent more on a home than you could afford and now you can't pay for it, the Obama Administration will re-write a lower mortgage for you?

But if you settled for a house that you could afford and have been faithfully making your payments, you are now are stuck with the mortgage to a house that is no longer worth what is was when you bought it. And your tax dollars get to help subsidize your neighbors with the new lower mortgage.

This is apparently how the Left views fairness! What is there to keep people from concluding that all they need to do is stop paying their mortgage payments so they too, can get a lower, refinanced mortgage?

I heard someone say that if Congress just divided up the stimulus package among every homeowner in America, each homeowner would get something like $17,000 in tax cuts. That would certainly be more fair than "Mo Mod" and might actually stimulate the economy. But then the politicians wouldn't get to control how the money was spent.

Baby thrown out in the trash

Eighteen year old Sycloria went to an abortion clinic. She was "medicated to dilate her cervix" for the procedure. Sycloria delivered a living baby girl. One of the clinic owners cut the umbilical cord, stuck the baby girl in a biohazard bag, and threw her in the trash to die! She did.

The autopsy confirmed that the little baby girl had been been born alive. Read the entire story.

Another tax problem

President Obama appoints yet another potential cabinet member with tax problems. No wonder Democrats like higher taxes. They apparently don't pay them! :-)

The Normalization of Evil

Daniel Pearl and the Normalization of Evil, published in the Wall Street Journal, is another of those must read articles. I've posted some excerpts below, but please take time to read the entire short but outstanding article.
But somehow, barbarism, often cloaked in the language of "resistance," has gained acceptance in the most elite circles of our society. The words "war on terror" cannot be uttered today without fear of offense. Civilized society, so it seems, is so numbed by violence that it has lost its gift to be disgusted by evil.

Then came the August 2008 birthday of Samir Kuntar, the unrepentant killer who, in 1979, smashed the head of a four-year-old Israeli girl with his rifle after killing her father before her eyes. Al Jazeera elevated Kuntar to heroic heights with orchestras, fireworks and sword dances, presenting him to 50 million viewers as Arab society's role model. No mainstream Western media outlet dared to expose Al Jazeera efforts to warp its young viewers into the likes of Kuntar.

The "cycle of violence" platitude allows analysts to empower terror with the guise of reciprocity, and, amazingly, indict terror's victims for violence....

At my own university, UCLA, a symposium last week on human rights turned into a Hamas recruitment rally by a clever academic gimmick. The director of the Center for Near East Studies carefully selected only Israel bashers for the panel, each of whom concluded that the Jewish state is the greatest criminal in human history.

Babies aborted alive

Has "pro-Choice" really come to mean "pro-infanticide?" Jill Stanek's article about the number of aborted babies born alive (only to be left to die) is deeply disturbing.

And now we have a President who supports it!

God help us!

Nuclear or biological attack

On January 21st Recliner Commentaries provided a list of expectations for the Obama Administration. The last one on the list was that, "The Obama administration will not be able to keep us safe from another significant terrorist attack."

I am apparently not the only one who thinks this way:
Former Vice President Dick Cheney is blasting the fledgling administration of Barack Obama, arguing that its policies dealing with terrorism and international foes are naïve and dangerous, making it all the more likely that terrorists will succeed in their next attempt at killing Americans, according to a report in Politico.

Simply by closing Guantanamo Bay’s detention camp for terrorists, Cheney said, Obama inadvertently will aid enemies eager to make another attack on the United States. Another major attack on this country — perhaps even using biological or nuclear materials — is very likely in the next few years, Cheney said (read the rest of the story on Newsmax).

I think the Obama administration (and all of us) need a lot of prayer!

Winter Wickedness

There is a huge move in the media, education and Hollywood (and now, the White House and Congress) to present homosexuality as just a perfectly normal alternative lifestyle. There is nothing normal about the upcoming "Winter Wickedness" festival in Columbus Ohio. This is really sick and truly disturbing. These people need serious psychological help!

Short marriage

In the "for what its worth" department: This marriage certainly didn't last very long.

David Ogden, Deputy Attorney General?

From an e-mail I received from the Family Research Council:
One nominee at the JusticeDepartment, David Ogden, nominee for Deputy Attorney
General, stands out. Our research uncovered a lot of troubling details about Ogden--not the least of which is his long history of extreme anti-family views. On the issue of life, he has fought for taxpayer funding of abortion, for jailing peaceful protestors, against notifying parents whose minor children are seeking abortions, and against informing women of the emotional risks of abortion. He's been an outspoken proponent of specials rights for homosexuals, the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and unfettered access to pornography--even in public libraries. President Obama is considering Ogden for a top post in an agency created to enforce the same laws that he built a profitable career opposing.
If you voted for President Obama, this is what you voted for. To read more about Mr. Ogden, go to FRCblog.

Religious discrimination in the stimulus package

From the American Center for Law and Justice:
Our legislative team has unearthed a little noticed provision in the economic stimulus bill that is simply unacceptable. There's a provision in Section 803 of the measure that provides money for the modernization of university facilities. However, as written, the stimulus bill would prohibit schools that accept this funding from allowing religious activity to take place in those facilities.
You might think this is just a separation of church and state issue. It's not. The courts have ruled that if other student groups can use such facilities, religious groups must also be allowed to use the same facilities. Since the courts would not uphold bigoted anti-Christian discrimination, the Democrats seek to achieve the same ends by different means.

See the ACLJ website for the whole story.

Planned Parenthood felony

At a time when President Obama wants to remove virtually all restrictions on the abortion industry, here is yet another allegation of a felony cover-up by Planned Parenthood.

Immortal four chaplains day

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has ordered that U.S. and Minnesota flags be flown at half mast today in honor of "Immortal four chaplains day." The first part of the proclamation is below:
WHEREAS: February 3, 2009, is the 66th anniversary of the tragic sinking of the United States Army transport DORCHESTER off the coast of Greenland, an event that resulted in the loss of nearly 700 lives in 1943. Witnesses of the event have recounted in the Congressional Record the heroism and self-sacrifice of four chaplains of different faiths: Lt. George L. Fox, Methodist; Lt. Alexander D. Goode, Jewish; Lt. John P. Washington, Catholic; and Lt. Clark V. Poling, Dutch Reformed; and

WHEREAS: Witnesses have verified that during the approximate 18 minutes the ship was sinking after being torpedoed, the four chaplains went from soldier to soldier calming fears and handing out lifejackets while guiding men to safety. When there were no more life jackets to give, they removed their own and gave them to others to save their lives. The chaplains were last seen arm-in-arm in prayer on the ship’s hull...

The torture of Palestinians

According to Britain's Daily Mail, hundreds of Palestinians, including innocent Palestinians, on the West Bank are being rounded up and tortured! Not by Israel, but by the Muslim group, Fatah which is a bitter rival of Hamas!

Islam is often the oppressor of Muslims!

Obama's 17 lies, er, exceptions

Barack Obama promised to change the way Washington works.

Barack Obama promised not to allow former lobbyists to work in his administration in post for which they once lobbied.

According to the Times of India (via Ed Morrissey), Barack Obama has already issued 17 exceptions to his promises in the first two weeks.

Cynics might call that 17 lies.

Ed Morrissey asks,
Why do we have to go to the Times of India to hear how many exceptions to this rule Obama has invoked? If the Bush administration had publicly imposed such a restriction on itself and then quietly ignored it, we’d hear endless editorials about Bush’s hypocrisy and the influence of the rich and powerful on his administration.
Good question.
