Unemployment

With over 553,000 layoffs in November, the unemployment rate jumped to a staggering 6.7 percent.

That's almost as bad as it got during Bill Clinton's presidency when the unemployment hit 7.1%!

The media don't usually mention that, however.

We need to take the media off of the pedestal. They are not fair, they are not balanced, they are not practicing some sacred profession. Today's media is driven entirely by profit. The newspapers, magazines, tv stations and networks, and their related websites exist to make money. Sure, they have to present fact-based information just like McDonalds is interested in selling you edible food products in a clean restaurant, but neither organization is ultimately interested in your well being... they just want to sell more.

In this case, the media chooses to present the worst possible cases, to indulge in speculative scenarios in order to scare people into watching their pundits, to read their next set of articles and headlines, to consider buying Tide because there's a 15% coupon for Tide at Wal-Mart.

Our media makes us more informed and more stupid. Americans have an all you can eat buffet of McDonalds... plenty of "food", but not very good for you.
