Hurricane Gustav

I've been watching coverage of Hurricane Gustav today. Just a couple of observations:

First, while it is too early to know for sure, the fact that Louisiana now has an outstanding Republican governor in Bobby Jindal seems to have made a huge difference over the previous Democrat governor who seemed to be much better at blaming Bush than she was in preparing for disaster.

Second, McCain and Palin are actually in the Gulf region meeting with governors, mayors and emergency response teams while Obama has chosen to stay away. I don't fault Obama for this. He thinks his presence would just be a distraction and he may be right. But one thing is certain: The next time a natural disaster strikes, McCain/Palin will be much more knowledgable about the "front-lines" of disaster response than Barack Obama.
