Cindy McCain's addiction

It must have been a slow news day at the Washington Post. They ran an old story about an addiction to prescription pain killers that Cindy McCain had way back in the late 80's to early 90's. As I understand it, the article, ominously entitled "A Tangled Story of Addiction" ran on the front page.

Cindy McCain's struggle with pain killers is well known. She has been very up front about it and has used her experience to help others. So was the news so slow today that the Washington Post couldn't find enough to publish without dredging up a story over a decade old? Or are they just serving as Barack Obama's campaign team and trying desperately to derail the Sarah Palin freight train?

I think it is disgusting to treat addiction to pain killers as if it was the same as addiction to "recreational drugs." People who have been, addicted to pain killers are often people who have endured agonizing, torturous pain. They deserve our compassion, not our judgmentalism .
