Obama and Nation of Islam

Debbie Schlussel is reporting that regardless of Obama's denials, the fact is that he continues to have strong ties to the racist, anti-Semitic Nation of Islam. Critics will undoubtedly attack Debbie's unnamed source but her allegations are serious and really should be investigated. I have little hope that the main-stream media will look into this but I hope the Clinton campaign hears about it.

This is outstanding journalism done by a writer with an impeccable past. Maybe next someone can look into whether or not it's a coincidence that Obama's name rhymes with a terrorist's name. I mean, he even has dark skin and everything!

I was just suggesting that serious allegations regarding a presidential candidate deserve serious investigation. You are apparently advocating a more "head-in-the-sand approach.

If such allegations were made against John McCain or Mitt Romney, however, every mainstream media outlet in the country would be all over it.

I guess we have very different definitions of the words 'serious allegations.' These attacks are presented by a columnist with an agenda, one who has a long track record of racism and presenting the theory that Obama is some kind of Muslim manchurian candidate (which has been debunked over and over). I hardly call that serious.

And by the way, McCain is getting kid glove treatment by the media. They love him, at least in part due to the amount of access he gives them.

Brent,

I understand what you're saying but at one time main stream journalists didn't think the Watergate rumors were serious allegations either. Sometimes you just don't know until you pursue the lead further.

If Debbie's allegations prove to be nonsense, so be it. But when were're talking about something as critical as a candidate for President of the United States, surely you don't think the media should just ignore it, do you?

I wouldn't think this story would be that hard for professional journalists to either confirm or debunk.

So if Debbie Schlussel is an unabashed right wing zealot and can't be trusted, I hardly think quoting a group such as Media Matters which holds down the same position on the left proves anything.

Lee, the link I provided only quoted some of Ms. Schlussel's past comments. They did not post extensive unsubstantiated claims about her as she did with Obama. My link was provided to 1) show her history of racism and 2) show her history of writing false information.
