William Jennings Huckabee

Matt Lewis on Townhall wrote a thought provoking article entitled, "William Jennings Huckabee" arguing that Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is really more like Democratic populist William Jennings Bryan than Ronald Reagan. Lewis concluded:

Come to think of it, when it comes to his political philosophy, Mike
Huckabee may owe more to Bryan than Reagan. And that’s not a good place to
be, considering the American people elected Ronald Reagan twice – and rejected
William Jenings Bryan three times.

On the other hand, America has changed a lot since the days of William Jennings Bryan. There are a lot of us who cannot vote Democratic because of the moral cesspool the Democratic party has become since then, but on the other hand, we are not happy with a cut-throat capitalism in which more and more people seem to be having to work two or three part-time jobs (without insurance) just to make ends meet, while at the same time more and more Americans are making millions or even hundreds of millions!

I'm not an economist so I don't pretend to know the solution to this problem, but maybe a "William Jennings Huckabee" is exactly what America needs right now.

You might be interested in knowing that the most effective means of assisting the poor is ensuring that the economy does well. No social programs have EVER helped as many people as good economic times. With that in mind, the economy does best when the government gets out of the way and simple creates a fertile environment for business to thrive. When the government tries to "manage" the economy, that's when the problems really start.
