Fred Thompson on immigration bill

According to former Senator, Fred Thompson,
I’d tell you what was in the legislation, but 24 hours after the
politicians agreed the bill looked good, the Senate lawyers were still writing
what may turn out to be a one thousand page document. In fact, a final version
of the bill most likely will not be made available to the public until after the
legislation is passed. That may come five days from now. That’s like trying to
digest an eight-course meal on a fifteen-minute lunch break.

Please take time to read the rest of this short article at Townhall.

I'm finding myself somewhat frustrated with Fred Thompson. There is only so long I'm going to put up with a "wait and see attitude." Either get in the race or get out of the spotlight. I like his straight forward manner, but he can't continue to sit on the sidelines and expect us to treat him like Switzerland.

There's an old saying about, um, doing something or getting off the pot. But since this is a family blog I won't quote it in its entirety. :)

I'm leaning towards voting No... I wish one could just vote "No Confidence" as a form of protest.

These stupid self-preserving parties we have are counterproductive. We need change.

I have to agree. I wish he'd lead by getting in the race, or bow out and get out of the way. But I think he's still the best option we have so far.

As an aside, it's worth pointing out that the immigration problem we have today is our own fault by proxy of the politicians we have elected. By not acting decisively as illegal immigration became an issue and either improving the process for legal immigration or placing strong legal and physical barriers in place to deter illegal immigration we have created an illegal class of workers in our society who we seek to gain benefits from and yet do not want to give them full rights.

The problem is the politicians the people who allow them to be so ineffective.

I tend to agree with Kevin. I'm not as hard-line about the illegal aliens who are already in the country as may conservatives who are screaming against "amnesty."

Not only has our country deliberately refused to enforce laws against illegals (for years!), we also grant illegals medical, educational, and other benefits at tax payer expense.

Intentionally or not, the message we have sent to illegals is that although it is "technically" illegal for you to come here, you are more than welcome to come and once here, we will give you jobs, provide medical care for you and educate your children at our expense. Can you blame them for coming?

When we have sent this message for years, it is hardly fair for us to suddenly decide to cut off their jobs, arrest them and send them back to countries where they may not even have homes anymore!

I would be all in favor of taking a VERY hard line against any illegals who commit crimes in our country. Otherwise, I am primarily concerned with border security.
