From Lebanon, to Syria, to Iran, Muslim leaders across the Middle East are publicly and enthusiastically crowing over their imagined victory over Israel. Meanwhile Hezbollah, who, as the puppet of Iran, instigated this whole war and who housed their weapons and military centers among Lebanese civilians in are now providing aid to Lebanese families in an effort to look like the good guys. Already, Lebanese women are naming their babies after Hezbollah leader, Nasrallah.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Saniora and Hezbollah leader Nasrallah “reportedly reached a deal” that would allow Hezbollah to keep its weapons as long as they didn’t show them publicly (isn’t that what they were doing before the war broke out?). And U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan said on TV that “dismantling Hizbullah is not the direct mandate of the U.N.” (Jerusalem Post).
All this in spite of the fact that U.N. Resolution 1701 specifically requires “the disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon so that…there will be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than that of the Lebanese state.” Not only that, but U.N. “peacekeepers” may not be in place for up to a year!
The ink is barely dry on U.N. Resolution 1701 and the U.N. is already back to its corrupt, irresponsible ways, and Resolution 1701 doesn’t appear to be worth the paper it was printed on.
I think Israel needs to go back and finish the job on the Iranian puppet, Hezbollah, and the U.S. needs to start positioning warships off Iran in case another “shock and awe” is needed. Iran is Nazi Germany all over again. The longer we longer we stick our head in the sand hoping it will go away, the more endangered western civilization becomes.

I am truly surprised that Israel agreed to the current cease fire. I doubt if any of the former prime ministers with military backgrounds would have followed the present course of action. While Hezbollah certainly did not attain any victory, I cannot find any concrete accomplishments for Israel to crow about either. As far as I know the two kidnapped soldiers, the initial cause of this war, are still kidnapped. I expect to see a change in Israel's leadership in the near future.
Given everything you wrote, it doesn't seem like you think the notion of a Hezbollah victory is "imagined" after all.
Are you really suggesting that we invade Iran at this time? (What did you mean by in case it's needed?) Even if we wanted to there's no way we could pull it off efficiently. The military is stretched so thin because of Iraq (another reason that whole thing is a mistake), low recruiting, etc. And taking Iran would be even more difficult that Iraq was (not to mention what to do with the mess afterward).
And, I don't think "shock and awe" exactly worked wonders the last time we tried it. Unless you still believe that the mission was "accomplished" three years ago.
Ed, I too am surprised that Israel agreed to the cease fire. As far as having anything to crow about, you're probably right.
By abandoning the mission they probably did nothing more than temporarily delay future attacks on Israel (and embolden their enemies to do so).
John, I'm not suggesting that we take over Iran like we did with Iraq (I never understood why President Bush thought it necessary to take over Iraq. If we knew where their military bases were and supposedly knew where their WMD's were, why not just take them out?)
I'm suggesting that we may need to destroy Iran's military/nuclear infrastructure if Iran continues on its present course of building military technology and nuclear weapons, and if they continue to pour money into Hezbollah and using Hezbollah as proxies to attack Israel.
No one (other than radical Muslilms) wants war. No one (other than radical Muslims and psychopaths) wants innocent people to die. But the longer we allow Iran to continue its military/nuclear buildup, the more difficult it will be, and the more lives will be lost in the future, if we have to stop them. And if we just ignore them long enough, they will one day become so powerful that no one can stop them.
Back in the old Soviet Union days, our country had a policy known as MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction). It basically assumed that the Soviet Union would not try to wipe us out with nuclear weapons because if they did, they knew that we could wipe them out before their misslies got to us.
That policy will not work on Iran. Their leaders delight in death. Their mission is to bring the world under submission to Allah and they would not be detured by the deaths of multiple millions of people. They will not be detured by our massive arsenal of nuclear weapons.
Once Iran has nuclear weapons and intercontinental balistic missiles the choice for the west may well be, submit to Islamic law or die by the multi-millions.
We can eiher wait until that time comes, or we can stopy them now. Often in life there are no good choices.
It's a shame that resolution 1701 had to be wasted in such a manner. You'd think they would have found a better way to commemorate this number.
